So big. So angry. So dead.
~ Mordecai

Mordecai is a major protagonist in the Borderlands series and one of the main protagonists of the first game. Originally a master sniper from the planet Artemis, Mordecai left home in order to get "everything this freaking universe owes me". He became a mercenary and eventually a Vault Hunter, and he, along with Rolan, Brick and Lilith, set out on a quest for The Vault on the planet Pandora. He and the others would ultimately save the planet from the catastrophic alien within, The Destroyer, and would go on to form the Crimson Raiders to help protect Pandora from the chaos of the ultra hostile world. Several years later after the defeat of Handsome Jack, Mordecai would form the B-Team with Brick and Tina.

Biography[]

Mordecai was born on the planet Artemis within the Six Galaxies of Borderlands. When he was 17 he entered a shooting competition with participants from multiple worlds. While everyone participated with a sniper rifle, Mordecai won with nothing but a revolver, causing the other contestants to scorn him and accuse him of cheating. This got him banned from the tournament, and gave him a chip on his shoulder.

Sometime into his adulthood, he raised a predatory bird as his pet and combat companion, Bloodwing. He would then decide to become a Vault Hunter in search of the legendary Vault on the planet Pandora and the treasure within. He would meet and befriend Brick, Roland, and Lilith, and the four began their quest for the Vault together.

Personality[]

Mordecai comes off as a somewhat cocky man with a chip on his shoulder. He thoroughly enjoys violence and is right at home in such situations. He has the demeanor of someone like a rebel, and while he is the deadliest of the original Vault Hunters (he was the one that won Moxxi's Underdome) he does have a moral compass that points to good. Mordecai would never harm an innocent and even protects them, and while he was originally eager for loot and rewards for his deeds, in time he would mature and become a genuine defender of good, but he would still retain his sense of playful arrogance.
