Morrison is a major recurring character from Pokémon The Series: Advanced Battle. He is a major friendly rival and supporting character to Ash in the Hoenn League.
Biography[]
Morrison is one of the participants of the Ever Grande Conference. He originates from Verdanturf Town in Hoenn and was responsible for defeating many tough opponents but losing to Ash in the semifinals.
Morrison and Ash first met when Morrison was chasing his runaway sandwich. Ash caught the snack and was about to give it to him, but Munchlax ended up gobbling it away. Morrison felt miserable about Munchlax taking his snack but felt better afterwards. He revealed to Ash and his friends that he was planning on entering the Hoenn League and winning it, although he only won seven badges that time and needed one more. Ash was planning on also working hard ands training, starting a friendly rivalry between the two Trainers.
After arguing on who is better, Morrison accepted Ash's decision on having a battle. Morrison sent out his Beldum against Ash's Pikachu. Despite Beldum using Take Down continuously, which was its only known move, the battle ended in a draw. He ran off after finding out that Ash had all of the Hoenn Badges already. He met up with Ash near a Pokémon Center and they had a race to see who could get there first, which ended in a draw. Morrison then challenged Ash to various contests such as a food eating contest.
In the middle of the battle, Team Rocket showed up and snatched Pikachu and Beldum. They placed Morrison and Ash in a cage. Both trainers successfully broke out of the cage they were in with their Take Down techniques, as they left all of their Pokémon (except for Pikachu and Beldum) behind in the Pokemon center. Ash and Morrison ran very fast and jumped onto Team Rocket's balloon. They were biting the ears of the Meowth balloon with their mouths and were able to disrupt the flight of the balloon. They were able to free Pikachu and Beldum, which then blasted off Team Rocket.
Morrison reappeared during the Ever Grande Conference arc. In "Saved By The Beldum," he announced that he won his final Badge. Seeing Ash's full team, Morrison revealed his whole team including Beldum. He declared himself as a rival to Ash for the tournament.
One time when Ash and Morrison fell in a pitfall trap trick of Team Rocket, Tyson came to save them and send Team Rocket blasting off again. Tyson also developed a good friendship with Morrison. Along with May, Max and Brock, they were watching Ash and Tyson's battles and rooting for him while he battled. As Tyson battled, Morrison along with Ash and his friends cheered for and supported him as well.
During the preliminaries, Morrison's first opponent was Jump, who had an Electabuzz. The battle began with an overwhelming start as Beldum's Take Down was continuously blocked by Electabuzz’s Protect. Since Beldum can only use Take Down, Morrison was at a disadvantage. As Morrison was about to be eliminated, Beldum started to evolve into a Metang and was able to defeat Electabuzz easier.
During the next round of the tournament, Morrison was matched up in a double battle against Gavin, a Trainer known for his powerful Machamp and Marowak. Morrison faced tough competition using his Growlithe and Gligar. Although things seemed very tough at first, Morrison’s Growlithe and Gavin’s Marowak were both knocked out, making it a one-on-one match. With only Gligar and Machamp left, Machamp’s fighting-type attacks such as Karate Chop, Cross Chop, and Vital Throw still left Gligar with major damage although not very effective. Gligar was able to confuse Machamp and counter back with multiple Steel Wing attacks and end in a Guillotine attack, leading to Morrison’s victory against Gavin in that match. Despite his initial excitement, Morrison realized the challenge of advancing through the tournament and began to feel the pressure.
As the Hoenn League continued, Morrison and Ash's friendship grew stronger. They supported each other through victories and losses, and even found themselves teaming up to defeat Team Rocket when they attempted to disrupt the tournament. Still, they didn't resist arguing and competing. Their combined efforts and determination proved successful, and they managed to send Team Rocket blasting off once again.
Eventually, the time came for Morrison and Ash to face each other in a heated battle. Despite their friendship, both Trainers were determined to give their best performance. The match was intense, with both Morrison and Ash showcasing their skills and strategies. Morrison's team put up a fierce fight, but Ash's experience and quick thinking gave him the edge.
In the end, Ash emerged victorious, but Morrison took the loss in stride. He acknowledged Ash's strength and promised to continue improving as a Trainer. Their match not only solidified their rivalry but also deepened their bond as friends. After the Hoenn League, Morrison and Ash parted ways, with Morrison vowing to keep training and become a better Trainer.
While their paths may have diverged, the encounters and battles they shared left a lasting impact on both of them, highlighting the importance of friendship and perseverance in their Pokémon journeys.
