Marvin T. Milk, also known as Mother's Milk, is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Frenchie and The Female) of the 2019 Amazon Prime TV adaptation The Boys.
A former marine corpsman, he's an original member of black ops group The Boys, whom eventually left the group following the Lamplighter incident that resulted in Grace Mallory losing her grandchildren. Becoming a juvenile detention center counselor, he returns the group when Butcher is assisted by Hughie Campbell in his need for vengeance. Despite being allies with Butcher, he often buts heads with his team leader due to the latter's ruthless tactics.
He is portrayed by Laz Alonso and Elias Leon Leacock young.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Marvin T. Milk was born in the United States to unnamed parents, and he looked up to his father a hero when he was young, fondly remembering going to Baskin-Robbins to get every flavor. As a child, he looked up to Soldier Boy, America's superhero and leader of Vought-International premier team Payback. When Soldier Boy was in his neighborhood stopping a couple of criminals from trying to steal a car, Marvin awoke his grandfather to observe the scene. While watching the altercation, Soldier Boy picked up the car and threw at the Milk's home, killing his grandfather and other relatives in the process. Following the incident, Marvin felt great guilt over his family's deaths, which contributed to him developing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder to deal with his trauma.
Marvin's father would sue Vought over the incident, but due to the company's strong connections, were able to allow Soldier Boy to get away with the altercation. Despite this loss, Marvin's father continued to fight against Vought, writing on his typewriter every day to the point Marvin would awake and fall asleep to his typing. Years later, Marvin found his father dead at the typewriter, and vowed to carry on his father's legacy by fighting against corruption and injustice. However, Marvin would soon realize that his father's vengeance was passed down to him, something he later fears with his daughter.
At some point in his adulthood, Marvin joined the United States Marine Corps, where he became a battlefield medic. During his time, he met a woman named Monique, whom he later married and had his daughter Janine. After leaving the military when he punched his commanding officer, Milk was recruited into the Boys presumably by Grace Mallory alongside Billy Butcher and Frenchie to deal with corrupt supes. Trying to take down the Seven, the Boys managed to blackmail Lamplighter in becoming their spy within the team in exchange they wouldn't release footage of him committing a crime. Though successful in getting him to comply, Lamplighter would kill Mallory's grandchildren while Frenchie wasn't tailing him as tasked.
Following the incident, Mallory became heartbroken over losing her family and disbanded the team, and Marvin became to resent Frenchie for not doing his job that night. After the disbandment, Milk became a counselor of the juvenile detention center, where he helped troubled youths.
Season One[]
While working at the detention center, Milk is greeted by Butcher, who wants him to rejoin the Boys so they can continue their crusade against Vought. Milk initially refuses, not wanting vengeance to consume him and telling Billy that he comfortable helping the troubled. However, Butcher reveals that he killed the Seven member Translucent, and lies that he didn't recruit Frenchie back toe the group. Hearing this, Marvin agrees to come back, but when entering a van, discovers that Butcher lied about Frenchie and attempts to attack his teammate. The altercation is stopped by his wife and daughter calling him, and he reluctantly agrees to help the Boys take down the Seven. Milk also meets his newest teammate Hughie Campbell, who joined the team to enact revenge against A-Train for killing his girlfriend Robin.
Starting with A-Train, the Boys decide to spy on the supe's girlfriend Popclaw to see if he has a stash of Compound V. Milk and Hughie pretend to be employees at the latter's former job, managing to place cameras in her apartment to watch from their van. The group learn that A-Train has been abusing the compound to maintain his spot on the Seven, and they decide that must obtain some to be analyzed. The group then attend the race, and later watched Popclaw take a high amount of the compound when A-Train refuses to reveal their relationship publicly. She proceeds to abuse the substance and kill her landlord, and Butcher arrives to blackmail her for everything she knows.
The Boys get information from Popclaw that A-Train passes a noodle shop when he obtains the drug, and the group tail an employee that goes to a warehouse where they found a mute women in a cage. Frenchie releases her the woman (later called the Female) from her imprisonment, and the group witness her brutally kill her captors before attempting to attack them. The Female then escapes, and Mother's Milk works with Frenchie and Butcher to find her as Hughie continues his relationship with Starlight to get information. Frenchie is able to find her location at the subway since she is trying to return home, and manage to use knock out gas to retrieve her after she was attacked by A-Train.
Following this, the Boys go the Believe Expo to get more information on Compound V, and Hughie manages to get information on the shipments at a hospital. Mother's Milk and Butcher go there, discovering that infants are being injected with the drugs to make them into supes. While going through the revelation that supes aren't born, the two are attacked by armed henchman, but Butcher is able to dispose of them by using an baby supe to kill them. After Frenchie is able to return with the Female after she is nearly killed by Black Noir, he advises that Milk meet with Mesmer to learn of her past. He agrees and convinces Mesmer to learn of the Female's past, revealing that she was injected with the compound to become a supe terrorist. Realizing that Vought is planning to create supe terrorist to force the government to allow superheroes into the military, the group decide to continue their crusade, but Butcher reveals that Susan Raynor has rejected his attempts to get Homelander.
Later on, the group is made when Hughie is threatened by A-Train, and Butcher realizes that Mesmer betrayed them to the Seven. Milk meets with his wife and daughter, convincing them to go to a safe location, and later speaks with Butcher to take Raynor's deal to expose Vought with Compound V. However, it fails after a supe terrorist commits an attack, and Vought manages to turn the public eyes to the Boys, labeling them as fugitives. Milk and Frenchie agree to go there separate ways, but they and the Female are captured by Vought-American Black Ops soldiers. The group are later saved by Hughie, as Butcher abandons his teammates to get his revenge against Homelander.
Season Two[]
Going into hiding as they are labeled fugitives, Mother's Milk becomes hopeless in their fight against Vought, showing irritation at Hughie's attempt to pull their spirits up. Despite this, Milk agrees to meet with Raynor, but witnesses her head suddenly explode, leaving them without a CIA contact. Butcher soon returns after disappearing for several weeks, and the Boys are assigned by Mallory to locate a supe terrorist. During the mission, the group discover that the terrorist is the Female's brother Kenji, and Milk briefly butts heads with Butcher during is attempt to kill the supe terrorist. Billy then reveals that his wife Becca is alive, having been taken to a secret compound after she gave to the Homelander's son Ryan.
The Boys continue on their mission to transport Kenji, but are briefly stopped when the Deep arrives with a whale to slow them down. After ramming into the whale, Milk stays behind to help Hughie recover from the incident, and convinces him to continue with their plan. However, their attempt is thwarted by the Seven's new member Stormfront, who murders Kenji and several innocent bystanders due to her prejudice. Despite suffering a defeat, Butcher sends Milk, Hughie and Starlight to get information on a supe called "Liberty", meeting with a woman who's brother was killed by the supe. The trio discover that Liberty is Stormfront, having lived this long due to Compound V.
Returning to their hideout, Milk is contacted by Hughie, who reveals that Butcher called him his "canary". Sensing that something is wrong, Milk and Campbell manage to trace Billy to his aunt's home, but learn that Black Noir is searching for Butcher on the orders of Vought. Despite calling the fire department to give Noir an audience, the supe manages to enter the home and contacts Stan Edgar, whom asks Butcher to not reveal the information in exchange that he will call off Noir. Following this, the Boys work with Starlight to infiltrate the Sage Grove Center to find what they can. Milk, Frenchie and the Female encounter Lamplighter, leading to an altercation until the inmate Cindy uses her powers to kill several guards. After surviving an attack by an acid vomit supe, Lamplighter agrees to help them escape.
While at the center, Frenchie reveals why he abandoned his tailing of Lamplighter, to save one of his friends who had overdosed. Milk then apologizes for his vindictive criticism, and the group escape after Lamplighter has a brief encounter with Stormfront. Seeing an opportunity to hurt Vought, the Boys decide to have Lamplighter speak at a trial, but he later commits suicide at the Seven's tower when Campbell works with him to save Starlight. Despite losing him, Butcher manages to intimidate Jonah Vogelbaum to speak at congress, but he and others are killed by an unidentified supe. While looking for ways to take down Vought, A-Train gives Hughie and Starlight documents on Stormfront's past with the Nazi Party, thus exposing her to the public.
The Boys then meet Becca, who escaped the community after Homelander and Stormfront went off with Ryan. Agreeing to help Butcher rescue Ryan, the group manage to do so, but are confronted by Stormfront. During the fight, Starlight, the Female and Queen Maeve attack Stormfront until she runs off, with Milk, Hughie and Frenchie witnessing the event. After Stormfronts' defeat, the Boys are cleared, allowing Milk to reunite with his wife and daughter.
Season Three[]
Having left the group to live a normal life, Marvin has been divorced from his wife due to his dangerous profession, but maintains a healthy relationship with her and Janine. However, Milk's obsession with Soldier Boy returns his need for vengeance, straining his relationship with Janine. He also has to deal with Monique's significant other, Todd with his blind obsession with Homelander. While he doesn't assist his former team, he gives Butcher information on Soldier Boy's sidekick Gunpowder. Despite trying to stay away from the Boys, he is given permission by Monique to return since she can see that he can't move past his trauma.
Following the reunion, the team confront Grace on her past experience with Soldier Boy and learn that he was supposedly killed by a Soviets in Nicaragua. Believing that the Russians have a weapon named "B.C.L. Red", the Boys travel to M.M. witnesses Butcher and Hughie use powers from V24. Milk express his disgust at the two, but works with them to release the weapon, whom is revealed to Soldier Boy. After Kimiko is left powerless from a blast of radiation from Soldier Boy, the team escape from the Russian facility to help the Female recover. Back in the United States, Milk learns that Soldier Boy has made to New York City and has caused another radioactive explosion.
Wanting to kill Soldier Boy to avenge his family's deaths, Marvin starts to hunt him down and reluctantly works with Butcher and Hughie. The trio learn from The Legend that Soldier Boy came by to gather his uniform and Crimson Countess' address, and they capture her and learn she sold the supe out to the Russians. While waiting for Soldier Boy, Milk is drugged by Butcher to protect him and form an alliance with the supe. Angered at Butcher's hypocrisy and betrayal, Milk continues his quest alongside Annie, whom travel to Herogasm to stop their allies. At the event, Mother's Milk attempts to stop Soldier Boy but is stopped by Butcher and later Annie to help those injured from the supe's radioactive blast.
Following the incident, Milk helps Starlight film a video of her leaving the Seven, having become fed with Homelander's abuse and Vought's corruption. Seeing a photo of Todd taking Janine at a Homelander rally, Milk returns home and confronts for putting his daughter in danger. The confrontation ends with Marvin hitting Todd for his remark on not being a father and leaves, disappointed in himself since Janine witness the incident. However, he receives advice from Frenchie on the situation by admitting the truth about his past. In addition, Frenchie reveals that he has obtained Novichok, a nerve agent that can potentially kill or knock Soldier Boy fall unconscious.
Later on, Hughie convinces Milk and the team to help him stop Butcher from working with Soldier Boy, as they learned that he is Homelander's father. However, they are stopped by Soldier Boy and Queen Maeve, whom has decided to join forces with Butcher in a last effort to kill Homelander. Despite, the Boys and Annie escape and assist Butcher in fighting against Soldier Boy, ending with Milk using Novichok against the supe. Afraid to be imprisoned again, Soldier Boy prepares another charge of his radioactive blast, but Maeve sacrifices herself to stop him. The day after, Milk reconciles with Janine and inducts Annie into the team as Victoria Neuman is announced as a vice-presidential candidate.
New Leadership[]
During the six months before season four, President Robert Singer works with the CIA to deal with Neuman, tasking the Boys to find a way to eliminate her. Grace also demotes Butcher from leadership of the Boys for pushing Ryan to his father, and places Marvin in his position.
Season Four[]
At a campaign event, Milk leads the team into assassinating Neuman with acid, but their plan is thwarted by her daughter Zoe and discovering that she's invulnerable to any form of damage. Meeting with Monique on Janine's behavior problems, she asks him to locate Todd since he separated from them to fully support Homelander. Marvin and Frenchie discover him walking into a building with Sister Sage, and later learn that he was murdered supposedly by Starlighters. Suspicious of Todd's death, Milk decides to investigate Sage while also explaining his intention to make A-Train a spy. However, he removes Butcher for the team for not telling them that he has cancer and for being a liability.
At TruthCon, the Boys investigate Sage until they are ambushed by her, having fell into a trap to kill them off before they can ruin her plans. Marvin, Frenchie and Kimiko fight against the supes Firecracker, Splinter and his duplicates until Butcher intervenes and kills Splinter Prime. Following the operation, Butcher attempts to persuade M.M. to help him save Ryan from Homelander, but he rebuffs Billy's pleads.

Mother's Milk is a compassionate individual, acting as the moral compass of the team due to his protective and nurturing nature. When Butcher was willing to leave Hughie behind in the mutilated whale, Milk decided to remain behind to help his teammate recover from the incident. He is also deeply protective of his wife and daughter, fearing of their safety when he was labeled a fugitive by Vought. Due to his childhood trauma of witnessing Soldier Boy kill his grandfather, Marvin developed OCD, something that has been noted by himself, Starlight and Frenchie. His compulsion has been used against him, as Frenchie used it to have him help with the Female.
He does have several flaws, however, as he can be be critical and temperamental at points. He chastised Frenchie for his previous actions with the Lamplighter incident, and later criticized Hughie for being in a relationship with Starlight due to her affiliation with the Seven. During season three, Milk's need for vengeance nearly consumes him, being determined to kill Soldier Boy for causing the death of his family. His anger clouds his judgment, as he was willing to attack his archenemy with his bare hands despite knowing that he battling a supe. However, he shows himself to be both forgiving and caring, apologizing to Frenchie once he learned why Frenchie left his post, and is quick to protect Hughie and Kimiko from Butcher's wrath.
Despite disliking supes, he he willing to work with the Female and Starlight, having developed a friendship with the latter. This is in contrast to Butcher, who has a fanatical hatred of Supes to the point that he believes that all of them should be wiped off the face of the Earth. He accepted Kimiko in the Boys despite his initial reluctance, and later told Butcher that she was one of them. When both Butcher and Hughie start taking V24, Milk only shows disgust at their actions, even admitting that he is disappointed at Campbell for doing so.
Abilities[]
- High Intelligence: Mother's Milk is highly intelligent, with Butcher brining him back due to his talents. He can be quick thinking in dangerous situations, as he called the fire department to keep Black Noir away as they set traps. Milk's also very observant, giving great detail of Kenji when seeing him.
- Intimidation: Having a intimidating presence, Milk is known to command respect from others, managing to get it from inmates.
- Military Training: Having served in the United States Marine Corps, Mother's Milk is in top shape and has numerous skills needed to fight against Vought-International and corrupted supes.
- Physician: Mother's Milk is a skilled physician due to his service as a combat medic, which proved vital in tending to a man who was shot by a bullet, Mesmer's wrist and Hughie's wound.
- Investigation: Mother's Milk is a skilled investigator, locating A-Train's stash of Compound V, and having connections to find the Female.
- Master Combatant: Due to his Marine service, Mother's Milk was trained in hand-to-hand combat. He was able to knock out his commanding officer and Todd with a single punch, and was capable of taking down several Russian soldiers.
- Marksmanship: A skilled marksman due to his time in the military, Mother's Milk was able to utilize a handgun and shotgun against Black Noir and Stormfront, but they proved fruitless due to their enhanced durability.
- Multilingualism: Though fluent in his native English, he can speak fluent Tagalog and knows some Russian.
