Mountain Tim is a minor supporting hero in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. He is an ex-military bounty hunter and cowboy who became an ally of Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli during the Steel Ball Run race, first assisting them in defeating the Boomboom family before dropping out of the race to assist Lucy Steel. His Stand is "Oh! Lonesome Me".

Appearance[]

Mountain Tim is a blond, blue-eyed man of average build, dressed in stereotypical cowboy getup, wearing a grey shirt with leopard-print sleeves, white pants and boots, a leopard print scarf, and white gloves. He also wears a belt with a holster for his pistol and a belt buckle bearing his initials, and wears a zebra-print hat adorned with a miniature cow skull.

Personality[]

Mountain Tim is a chivalrous, suave, and virtuous man, able to keep a cool demeanor in almost every situation, even in the face of death. Mountain Tim also possessed a strong sense of justice and respect for the law, enough to abandon a race in favor of chasing a murder suspect. Due to his lifestyle, Mountain Tim could never see himself passing away in peace, instead only wanting somewhere to return to.

Even while in love with Lucy Steel, he acknowledged and respected her marriage to Steven Steel, even admiring her loyalty to her husband, and readily protected her with his life. His general benevolence could apparently be sensed by horses, which were known to respectfully bow in Mountain Tim's presence.

Biography[]

Past[]

Mountain Tim was born in Wyoming in 1859. When he was 16, he had joined the US Army, and his unit was assigned to venture through the uncharted parts of the Arizona desert. There, they were trapped by a mysterious phenomenon known as the Devil's Palm, preventing the soldiers from leaving. They and their horses soon died of dehydration and the heat, and Tim nearly succumbed to the environment as well, but the Devil's Palm granted him the power of a Stand, manifesting just in time to save him from death. Said Stand merged Tim's body with a rope, and dew that collected on the rope was ingested by Mountain Tim, rehydrating him before he was released from the Devil's Palm, leaving him as the only survivor of his unit.

After the incident, Mountain Tim named his Stand "Oh! Lonesome Me", and left the army, becoming a bounty hunter and cowboy who annually herded 3,000 cattle across over 4,000 kilometers of land, while hunting criminals from Montana to Texas, gaining national fame and trust from the authorities.

Steel Ball Run[]

In 1890, Mountain Tim joined the cross-country Steel Ball Run race, from San Diego to New York City. With the fame he had already acquired, Mountain Tim was quickly named a crowd favorite even before the race began, attracting a great deal of media attention. He rode a horse named Ghost Rider in the Sky, a five year old Mustang.

Mountain Tim expertly crossed the first stage of the race, finishing in 5th place, but Gyro Zeppeli, who was in first place, got demoted to 21st place due to attempting to attack rival racer Sandman, thus promoting Mountain Tim to 4th place, giving him more points. Then, the cowboy was contacted by the local sheriff to investigate the brutal murder of three race participants earlier in the course, who had been disemboweled by a mysterious force. Steven Steel, the organizer of the race, and his wife, Lucy Steel, had also been called in to see what happened. Lucy had been left in the Steel's wagon to not see the grisly sight, but Mountain Tim rode up beside her and was charmed by her. He then discovered a horseshoe print with a distinct triangular dent, and saw that the horse with said shoe had been acting erratically due to the layout of its prints, indicating that its rider was the murderer. Tim also discovered that the jean button of one of the victims had come off, also by an unknown force. Mountain Tim was then deputized by the sheriff, and left to start his search, but not before offering Lucy a bouquet of nearby wild flowers.

Mountain Tim secretly abandoned the race, but stayed in its course, as the sheriff told him that he could be targeted by the killer due to being one of the top contenders in the race. During the second stage, Mountain Tim discovered more of the distinctive triangle-dent horseshoe prints, following its trail and finding the abandoned horse and body of competitor Mrs. Robinson, who he found wasn't the culprit due to the shape of Robinson's horseshoes. However, he found that the culprit passed through the route regardless, the same route being taken by Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli, following the trail until he finds the horse with the dented shoe, and its currently dismounted rider, Benjamin Boomboom. However, as Tim approached, warning that he was authorized to execute the culprit, Benjamin Boomboom had already disguised himself as Johnny Joestar, and then threw a horseshoe stained with his blood at Tim, splashing some of his blood on the cowboy. Mountain Tim then used his Stand to move his hands down his lasso, which he used to restrain Benjamin just as the criminal made a run for a brier patch. Despite the restraint, Benjamin still managed to cut the rope and got away, but as Mountain Tim never saw Benjamin's real face, he proceeded to hunt Johnny, not realizing that he had been affected by Benjamin's Stand, Tomb of the Boom, shared by Benjamin and his sons, L.A. and Andre.

Tim eventually caught up to Johnny and Gyro, who had also been affected by Tomb of the Boom, which had the ability to magnetically pull afflicted people together, ripping out their internal organs if they got too close, which is how Benjamin Boomboom killed the three contestants. Not realizing that he was affected by the ability, Mountain Tim kept approaching the duo, who realized what would happen, making Gyro use his steel balls to destroy nearby iron-filled rocks, the iron being magnetically attracted towards Tim and knocking him off his horse. However, Mountain Tim was still too close to Johnny and Gyro, and thus was pulled towards them, but quickly threw his lasso around a rock and spread his body over it with his Stand, fighting the magnetic pull. Tim quickly realized that Johnny and Gyro weren't attacking him as the pair tried to explain Tomb of the Boom's ability, also realizing that Johnny wasn't the true killer. Seeing as the pair appeared unfamiliar with Stands, the cowboy managed to explain his backstory and the concept of Stands while keeping hold of the rock. However, the Boomboom family then revealed themselves and tried to bind the three in iron sand, where Tim drew his pistol and shot at L.A. Boomboom, only for Benjamin Boomboom to deflect the bullets using Tomb of the Boom, and breaks the cowboy's hold on the rock, making the three collide. Tomb of the Boom's ability began to rip apart their bodies, but Johnny managed to use a power known as the Spin on one of Tim's bullets, but was interrupted by Benjamin. However, Johnny then gained his own Stand power, Tusk, and made of his own fingernails spin and shoot out with enough power to cut Benjamin in half, also cutting through L.A.'s foot, freeing the three from Tomb of the Boom.

Mountain Tim, recovered, quickly realized that the structure of the Devil's Palm had emerged from the sands around them. He, Johnny, and Gyro quickly remounted their horses and rode off, leaving L.A. behind, who ranted about Gyro being hunted by assassins from his home country, the Kingdom of Naples. The three soon arrived at the second stage's midway checkpoint, a town, being the first to do so. The three settled down in a hotel to rest, where Mountain Tim caught a mysterious foreign man named Oyecomova in Gyro's room, rifling through Gyro's things. Tim confronted Oyecomova and attempted to apprehend him, but Oyecomova ominously warned the cowboy not to touch him. Regardless, Mountain Tim grabbed the man by the shoulder, only for a chunk of Oyecomova's skin to come off, revealing his Stand, Boku no Rhythm wo Kiitekure, which had left tiny bombs on Tim's hand. Oyecomova then warned Tim not to open his hand, but Tim already did, setting off the explosives. While caught in the blast, Tim saved himself from being completely pulverized by splitting his body along his rope, although he was left with severe injuries, incapacitating him. He landed right in front of Gyro and Johnny, who were outside, and managed to warn them of Oyecomova's abilities. Gyro and Johnny promptly chased Oyecomova out of the checkpoint, defeating him on their own, while Mountain Tim stayed behind to recover and dropped out of the race in favor of remaining a deputy.

Sometime later, Mountain Tim was called by Lucy, who was in Kansas City and had just gotten herself involved with the secret affairs of President Funny Valentine, concerning the true purpose of the Steel Ball Run, having had just stolen a mysterious message meant for the president. When Tim arrived, it was raining, and Lucy was cornered in a government building by US soldiers, but Mountain Tim used his Stand to disassemble Lucy's body and slide her down along the rope to the ground outside, reassembling her and getting her away from the building. Stopping at a warehouse, Mountain Tim revealed that he had fallen in love with Lucy during their first meeting, but to his disappointment, Lucy stated that she still loved her husband Steven, although Tim still admired her loyalty, and advised her to seek out Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli. With that, Lucy rode off with the message, which, unbeknownst to Mountain Tim, was directions to the spine of Jesus Christ.

Shortly afterwards, Mountain Tim was confronted by Blackmore, an agent of the president and a Stand user, and who had traced the call back to Tim. Using his Stand, Catch the Rainbow, Blackmore loomed over Mountain Tim and asked about the identity of the caller, but Tim drew his pistol and shot Blackmore in the chest. However, Blackmore survived by merging himself with the rain, sending his hands and mouth down the rain to restrain Tim, who tried to evade with his own Stand, splitting his body to shoot Blackmore in the head, but Blackmore managed to pull on Tim's rope, pulling the cowboy into the path of rain he solidified into blades, cutting open Tim's head. Critically wounded, Tim's body reformed, collapsing on the spot. Blackmore drew his own pistol and once again demanded that the cowboy tell him who stole the message, but Mountain Tim refused, instead saying that he was a cowboy who never imagined passing away in peace, only wishing to have a place to come home to at the end of his journey. With that, Blackmore shot Mountain Tim in the head, killing him.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Oh! Lonesome Me: Mountain Tim's Stand, the non-humanoid ability named "Oh! Lonesome Me", allowed Tim to harmlessly apart split parts of his or other's bodies and freely slide these segments along his lasso. It also gave him general control over the lasso, allowing for superhuman levels of precision with it, and allowed people whose bodies were split along it to absorb any water that condensed on the rope. The innards of those split apart by Oh! Lonesome Me, or at least the innards exposed by the split, appear to be replaced with a purple void.

Trivia[]
