Mr. Bernard Bentley is a character in the television series Bob the Builder. He is Bobsville's building inspector and later Mayor of Sunflower Valley and then Fixham Harbour's building inspector, and the husband of Mrs. Barbara Bentley.

He is voiced by Rob Rackstraw in the UK in the whole series and US in Project: Build It and Ready, Steady, Build!, who also voices Scoop, Muck, Travis in the UK, as well as Toby, James, Donald, Flynn, Owen, and plenty of other characters in Thomas & Friends, and Alan Marriott in the US in the Original Series, who also voices Scoop and Travis in the US, and both also voice Spud.

Personality

Mr. Bentley is very particular, detail orientated, and sharp. He cares about getting the job done, and making sure the said job is done well. He does not let one detail slide by, and will make sure that the job meets every requirement, and meets the mayor's expectations.

Appearance

Mr. Bentley wears a navy blue suit, red tie and glasses. He has a grey beard, a grey moustache and grey hair, and is half bald with grey hair only on the back of his head.

Trivia

• In the US dub of the Original Series, he speaks with an American accent, while in Project: Build It and Ready, Steady, Build!, he speaks with the same accent from the original UK dub.
  • It was never revealed why Alan Marriott stopped voiced him despite still voicing Scoop and Travis.
• In the Finnish version of the Original Series, he was called "Herra Pultti" (Mr. Pultti), but in Project: Build It onwards. he's called "Tarkastaja Pultti" (Controller Pultti).
• In several episodes, it is shown Mr. Bentley may dislike Spud due to his mishaps and delays he's caused to some of Bob's projects.
• In the UK dub, most of the other characters stress the first syllable (/ˈbɜːnəd/) of his real name, while in the US dub, the second syllable is stressed (/bɚˈnɑːrd/) instead.
• Mr. Bentley is the only character introduced in the 2000s to appear in the 2015 Reboot Series.
