Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known of Reed Richard's past, but he was a genius-level scientist who later developed the power to stretch his limbs and torso at great lengths. Alongside his love-interest Susan and two unknown teammates, he became the founder of the Fantastic Four and adopted the alias "Mr. Fantastic". Reed developed a reputation in his universe, being regarded as the smartest man alive according to Baron Mordo. Due to his heroic nature and brilliant mind, the sorcerer Stephen Strange offered a position into his new team called the Illuminati. Following his recruitment, he became teammates with the mutant Professor X, the super soldier Captain Carter, the Inhuman Black Bolt, and the cosmic hero Captain Marvel. In addition, Reed married Susan at an unknown point in time, and became the father of her children.
Around 2018, Thanos commenced his campaign to obtain the infinity stones to wipe out half of the universe, and the Illuminati worked together to find a way to stop him. Despite having formed the group, Strange decided to work alone to find a solution to defeat the mad Titan, and discovered a spell book called the Darkhold. The sorcerer started to dream-walk to find any solution that could be found in the multiverse, but instead caused an incursion that resulted in the destruction of a universe. Strange eventually returned to the team to find another solution, and the Illuminati discovered an ancient text called the Book of Vishanti. On the planet of Titan, the Illuminati were successful in defeating Thanos with the ancient text, but Strange admitted to his previous actions with the Darkhold.
Fearing the threat Strange could pose to the multiverse, the Illuminati agreed to Stephen's chose to have him executed with Black Bolt committing the deed. Returning to Earth, they informed Dr. Christine Palmer of Strange's actions, but all of them agreed to cover up his death by telling the public he died battling Thanos. The team then decided to have Karl Mordo be Strange's replacement on the team and as sorcerer supreme, but also become more watchful of any incursions that could happen in the multiverse. At some point, Richards founded the Baxter Foundation to do research on the universe, and had Palmer positioned on multiversal research. He also did studies of the universe himself, having great knowledge on incursions and how an alternate version of an individual could cause one.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness[]
When an alternate version of Doctor Strange arrived to Earth-838, the Illuminati had him apprehended and taken to their headquarters to put him on trial. Reed explained to the sorcerer that his appearance in their reality was causing an incursion to become more likely, and further expressed the group's fear of him appearing. Upon revealing their encounters with Supreme Strange, Richards expressed they had come to believe that the multiverse's greatest threat was a Strange. During the trial, Scarlet Witch arrived to claim America Chavez, having managed to reach Earth-838 by dream-walking into her counterpart. Needing to deal with the witch before they could cast their judgment on the sorcerer, Mr. Fantastic, Black Bolt, Captain Carter and Captain Marvel left to stop Wanda as Xavier and Mordo remained with Strange.
Confronting Maximoff, Reed attempted to reason with her about her actions, sympathizing about her sons since he had children of his own. Despite his attempts, Wanda refused to leave and threatened to kill the, but Richards warned her that Black Bolt could kill her with a simple whisper. However, she used her magic to make his mouth disappear, causing the Inhuman to panic and cause his own demise by exploding his head. Mr. Fantastic then attempted to restrain Maximoff, but she used her magic to tear him apart before bursting his head. As a result of his demise, the Illuminati became defunct as Mordo remained the only living member to survive Maximoff's massacre.

Trivia[]
- This is the first live-action adaptation of the character not to be introduced in a Fantastic Four film.
- The character is also the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have an alternate version of them appear before the main counterpart is.
- He is the only member of the Illuminati whose actor hasn't played the character previously.
- There's many meme videos made about Reed Richard's very stupid move of giving black bolt's ability (which is clearly most powerful among the team) to Wanda which leads them get killed because of his stupidity. And title given him "Smartest Man Alive" makes it even more ironic.
- The reason why John Krasinski was cast as Mr. Fantastic was due to the actor himself being a fan casting of the character. Director Sam Raimi said that since it’s because Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set in a alternate timeline Kevin Feige decided to cast Krasinski for the role because of the fan casting, which does confirm that Krasinski is not the main Mr. Fantastic for the MCU. Ironically, Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt also has been a fan casting of Sue Storm, though the actress herself has expressed no interest in playing the role.
