Mr. Han is the deuteragonist of the 2010 film, The Karate Kid.
He is the Chinese kung fu counterpart of Keisuke Miyagi, as they are both quirky, yet kind and humble, but Han is less friendly and more conflicted. He was married to an amateur singer named Zhang and had a 10-year-old son named Gong Gong, but he lost them both in a car accident.
He is played by Jackie Chan, who also portrayed Inspector Lee in the Rush Hour movies, Wong Fei-Hung in the Drunken Master movies, and voiced Master Monkey from the Kung-Fu Panda films, Splinter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Master Wu in The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Mr. Feng in The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.
Bio[]
Mr. Han is a mechanic, janitor and handyman who works at the apartment complex where Dre and his mother are living. He keeps to himself for the most part, but is notably the one member of staff who appears to be the most fluent in English. He ends up intervening when he sees Dre being beaten up by a group of bullies from school, and takes care of his injuries. Mr. Han even confronts Master Li, the man who is training the bullies to 'show no mercy' at the 'Fighting Dragon' studio, and ends up agreeing that Dre will face off against his bully in a kung fu tournament. With that, he decides to train Dre in kung fu, and despite himself, ends up becoming very close to the boy.
Story[]
Past[]
Mr. Han lost his wife and son during a car accident that was his fault. He was arguing with his wife and not focusing on the road, and ended up crashing. He's never forgiven himself for it, and spends his spare time fixing the car, only to destroy it again on the anniversary of their deaths to remind him of what happened.
The Karate Kid (2010)[]
Mr. Han is first seen in his shed eating noodles and swatting a fly. Dre was trying to get his attention but he helped someone else. He at some point checked the shower in Dre and Sherry's apartment and stated that it works and that they use a switch.
Mr. Han helps Dre when he is getting beaten up by Cheng & his friends. He beats them up easily & tells them all to go home. He heals Dre using fire-cupping. He takes Dre to the Fighting Dragons Studio where he meets Master Li. He makes a deal with the master allowing Dre to train for an open Kung-Fu tournament without any interference from Li's students. Mr. Han gets invited to go to the Shi-Shi festival with Dre and his mother. Mr. Han declines at first but reluctantly agrees to go with them.
Mr. Han starts training Dre. Dre gets fed up with his unorthodox methods until he shows how it helps & that Kung Fu lives in everything they do. He takes Dre to a Shaolin temple where he learned Kung Fu. He eventually gives him a day off. He almost fixes his car but he destroys it after remembering his dead wife & son & gets intoxicated. Dre helps him cope & that gave him a second chance as a father. After his training, he helped him reconcile with Meiying and her parents.
Mr. Han continued to train him for the tournament even teaching him the cobra pose. He watched him through the tournament and when Dre got injured, he originally refused to help him believing that he proved he was brave. But Dre was eager to return so reluctantly he healed him using the fire-cupping technique again.
The movie ends with Dre beating Cheng and the Fighting Dragon students bowing to Mr.Han.
