Kesuke Miyagi, otherwise known as Nariyoshi Miyagi and Mr. Miyagi, is the overarching protagonist of The Karate Kid franchise.
He was portrayed by the late Pat Morita, who also voiced The Emperor of China in Mulan.
Biography[]
Kesuke Miyagi was born on June 9, 1925, in Tomi Village, Okinawa, Japan.
Kesuke Miyagi begins the first film when our hero, Daniel LaRusso, met him in the house he and his mother moved in. When Daniel argues with his mother about his new home, Mr. Miyagi feels sorry for the boy.
He later comes to his rescue when he is captured and attacked by Johnny Lawrence, leader of the Cobra Kai gang. Over the course of the film, Mr. Miyagi trains Daniel in the ways of karate, giving him the courage to face his fears and defeat Johnny in a karate tournament.
In the second film, Mr. Miyagi takes Daniel to meet his family, where they face many challenges, they didn't expect.
In the third film, He and Daniel fight against John Kreese and Terry Silver in another karate tournament.
In the fourth film, He teaches the granddaughter of a friend from his WWII days karate.
In Cobra Kai, Mr. Miyagi is revealed to have died between the events of The Next Karate Kid and Cobra Kai.
Notes[]
- Rumors about him in season 6 that he fought in Sekai Tekai. It was a fight to the death and almost killed his opponent. He probably lost the Sekai Tekai tournament, if he won he probably wouldn’t be stuck as an apartment janitor.
