Mr. Hubert Snake is the deuteragonist of the Bad Guys book series and one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Diane Foxington) of the DreamWorks animated movie, The Bad Guys. He is an Eastern brown snake who is the safe cracker, Mr. Wolf's best friend and one of the members of his gang.
In the film, he is voiced by Marc Maron.
Appearance[]
In the books, Mr. Snake have yellow scales and dark eyes. He wears a black jacket and tie over a white shirt.
In the film, he is marigold yellow on his underbelly, and brownish-bronze with a chain pattern on the upper side. He wears a red Hawaiian button-up shirt with white hibiscus/flower print patterns and a tan bucket hat with a brown strap across the middle with two angry/sad-face yellow pins.
During stealthy heists, he wears a black bodysuit with a crosstrap backpack.
While at the fundraiser Gala, he wears a navy blue suit with a cropped white undershirt.
In prison, he wears a simple, orange t-shirt.
At some points Marmalade's attempts at teaching the Bad Guys good behavior, he makes the Bad Guys wear comfy suits. Snake wears a pink unicorn costume suit.
Personality[]
Mr. Snake is seen to be cynical, short-tempered, and grumpy about his birthday because no one showed up to them during his childhood. He seems to have a problem with sharing as seen when he refuses Mr. Shark a push pop. But he is still has a loyal and caring personality. Despite his weak minded behavior towards Wolf earlier, blaming him for what Marmalade actually did to them, he also proved to be quite clever after his redemption as he tricks Professor Marmalade into thinking he actually wants to join him and uses his helmet and guinea pigs to destroy the meteorite and expose Marmalade's true colors and crimes as the real culprit to the meteorite being stolen.

Mr. Snake is one of three outlaws recruited by Mr. Wolf along with Mr. Piranha and Mr. Shark to form the Good Guys Club.
After a time travel incident, Mr. Snake gained telepathic powers, able to lift objects with his mind and mind control. When the aliens tried to steal all the superpowers back, Mr. Snake was caught in the cannon and accidentally absorbed all the powers at once. This led him to figure out the key to defeating the alien invasion by convincing the other aliens to rebel against Dr. Rupert Marmalade.
Mr. Snake spent over a year isolating himself from his friends, pondering and exploring his new powers. His growing familiarity and boredom with his universe lead him to be vulnerable to the corruption of the Underlords. He was transformed into a Dark Lord of Serpents with the goal of transforming all his friends into Dark Lords as well. Flashbacks to his childhood reveal that he was bullied until he met young Mr. Wolf, who taught him how to be "bad" and stand up for himself.
The Bad Guys (Film)[]
Having been born a snake, an animal associated with the stereotype of the villain, no one ever showed to his birthday parties, making him resent birthdays altogether. Mr. Snake met Mr. Wolf and they became best friends. He joined Mr. Wolf's gang, the Bad Guys, along with other three stereotypically evil animals: the cheerful master of disguise Mr. Shark, the psychotic thug Mr. Piranha and the brilliant hacker Ms. Tarantula or "Webs" (the nickname they gave her). The five quickly became as close as a family in a prejudiced world.
Wolf and Snake successfully rob a bank and escape in Wolf's car. Snake tries to crack the safe while they pick up Tarantula, Shark and Piranha. They remind Snake of his birthday, much to his annoyance.
After Diane Foxington insults that the gang are has-beens for stealing another bank, Mr. Wolf scheme to steal the Golden Dolphin at the Museum of Fine Arts. Mr. Snake responds saying that they shouldn't do schemes for personal reasons, but when the award is given to Professor Marmalade, Mr. Snake (who loves guinea pigs as food) ends up agreeing with Mr. Wolf and the rest of the gang to steal the award. However, after being caught, Mr. Wolf quickly schemes up a new plan of stealing the dolphin again which is to be reformed as Good Guys, present the award to Marmalade, and leave with the original award at the Gala of Goodness, to which, Mr. Snake calls it the old-switcharoo.
During the film's progress, Mr. Snake's weakness is his irresistible love of eating guinea pigs when Mr. Wolf scheme ends up getting the gang to save 200,000 guinea pigs at a Sunnyside Laboratory while somewhat being humiliated with the gang wearing loose fitting cute onesies to give a better image. This results into Mr. Snake eating a lot of guinea pigs to which angers the gang as they were supposed to save them, not eat them, and end up hurting the gang's reputation of turning into Good Guys.
When Mr. Wolf ends up rescuing the cat above a palm tree by himself, Mr. Snake overhears Professor Marmalade's talk with Mr. Wolf stating that Mr. Wolf will eventually have to choose to either stay with the gang or cut them loose in order to succeed having a better life. This results into Mr. Snake feeling concerned that Mr. Wolf may actually drop them if their public image ends up resulting them into reformed Good Guys, but Mr. Wolf calms him doubts down stating that this is all part of the Golden Dolphin heist, as in a few days, the gang will be presented to present Professor Marmalade's Golden Dolphin Award. During the Gala of Goodness party while the gang were setting up for the heist, Mr. Snake ends up nearly being caught when Chief Luggins unknowingly slams the open briefcase with the code for the dolphin case with Mr. Snake's tail in the case. Panicking to save Mr. Snake being caught, Mr. Piranha ends up improvising a song being Good Tonight to which the gang, Diane, and the Audience party up, reaching nearly $1 Billion in donations for charity.
Mr. Snake and the gang are called up to present the Dolphin for Professor Marmalade, however, Mr. Wolf ends up going AWOL as Mr. Wolf actually awards Marmalade the award, shocking Mr. Snake. In sudden turn of events, the lights go off which was part of the scheme, and the heart-shaped meteorite ended up being stolen. Mr. Wolf's "So long, suckers!" on the TV Screen didn't help, which ends up both a panicked Mr. Wolf giving the location to Diane to their base with all the looted items and the gang ending up being arrested again for a crime they never committed, tarnishing their Good Guys image further. It was later revealed that Professor Marmalade both stole the meteorite and manipulated Mr. Wolf, resulting Mr. Snake asking what is Marmalade talking about. Marmalade admits that he was disguised as the senior lady that nearly fell off the stairs that gave Mr. Wolf the satisfaction of doing a good deed that results the tail wag, resulting that Mr. Wolf may have actually thought of cutting them loose before Mr. Wolf attacks Marmalade for his deception, where Marmalade kicks the police truck doors open and pretends to be attacked, showing that they will never change for the better.
During the S.U.C.M prison scene, Mr. Snake is manipulated against Wolf, blaming him instead of Marmalade, as he tells Mr. Wolf that he heard his talk with Marmalade about cutting them loose, and that their life was better than Mr. Wolf stating he was trying to find the gang a better life. Mr. Wolf ends up saying that the audience loved them for the gala with all the cheering and approval and that they were more than just villains, to which Mr. Snake responds if they REALLY love the reformed gang, why are they in prison for a crime they never committed, which Mr. Wolf couldn't answer to his point although its only been their first day seen as good guys. Mr. Snake foolishly ends up agreeing with Professor Marmalade's point about the world being seen for what it is: some people being scary and some people are scared. This ends up with Mr. Wolf finally snapping back at Mr. Snake stating that he is tired of being seen as an outcast as Snake demands Wolf to say that he doesn't want to be the bad guy anymore, but Wolf couldn't bring himself to say the words. After that, Snake starts childishly asking Wolf if they, his lifelong friends, are just a burden to him, Wolf yells, "Yeah, MAYBE YOU ARE!!", out of rage and annoyance to make Snake shut up. This greatly hurts Mr. Snake and the others as he attacks Wolf and tells him to take back what he said.
Suddenly, a ninja ends up rescuing the gang, which who turns out to be Diane Foxington, the Governor of California. Mr. Wolf ends up realizing that she is The Crimson Paw, the greatest criminal in history who, after doing numerous heists, cemented a Legacy for stealing the highest guarded Zumpango Diamond twice: once for profit, second time for fun (probably the ring she wears). After a successful breakout, Foxington and Mr. Wolf both think on what is Professor Marmalade scheming and how to stop it, but upon arriving at the beach, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Ms. Tarantula, and Mr. Shark selfishly splits Mr. Wolf for his redemption. This makes Mr. Snake reveal why he loathes his birthdays: When growing up, nobody shows up to his party, and that its a reminder that in the outside world, Mr. Snake is seen as a "scary, good for nothing, monster", and worse recently as Mr. Wolf, his only best friend, to stab him in the back for choosing good.
When the rest of the gang arrived home, the home's loot has entirely been confiscated after Mr. Wolf decided to turn himself and the rest in without their permission. Mr. Snake, albeit angry that Mr. Wolf gave back the loot, goes to the fridge and sees all the photos of the gang together and opens up the freezer to see single push pop popsicle. While Mr. Shark was crying for losing everything, Mr. Snake gives him the only push pop so Mr. Shark can calm down. This surprises the gang as Mr. Snake is actually being good for them, however Mr. Snake states he's not good, he's just putting Mr. Shark's needs over his own self, to which the gang tells him that is literally being good. This makes Ms. Tarantula realize they can actually be more than just scary monsters, which results everyone getting their "tail wag". Mr. Snake also ends up liking his wag, but resents it saying that they will always be Bad Guys, storms off fuming, and abandons the gang.
After Mr. Wolf and Diane ends up being captured by Professor Marmalade, Marmalade reveals both his heist plan involving to steal the $1 billion charity money using mind control with the meteorite properties and that Mr. Snake has teamed up with him, which angers Mr. Wolf for Mr. Snake teaming up with Marmalade who is a guinea pig. Mr. Snake asks if he could try out the mind control helmet that Marmalade was using and says its really fun using it. As they both leave, Marmalade tells Cuddles to finish them, to which Mr. Wolf and Diane were slowly being lowered into a massive grinder. However, the gang successfully saves both and quickly steals the meteorite from Marmalade and Mr. Snake. This results in a chase throughout Los Angeles.
As the gang successfully saved the $1 billion charity money and were ready to turn themselves in and the meteorite after all agreeing, the gang refused as they can't do it without Mr. Snake after seeing Mr. Snake's party hat, which angers Chief Luggins as Diane sighs. While Professor Marmalade and Mr. Snake were fighting over who was screwing up the heist, the gang comes in with Mr. Wolf's Car to get back Mr. Snake. Marmalade sees the gang and uses mind control to kill the gang with the guinea pigs, much to Mr. Snake's disapproval. Mr. Wolf attempts to negotiate a deal with Marmalade where he'll give the meteorite in return for Mr. Snake safely, but the deal does not go through as Marmalade kicks Mr. Snake out of the helicopter, sending Mr. Snake to his death. Shocked for not wanting to lose his best friend for good, Mr. Wolf rams through the Road Closed Signs and drives into the Los Angles Meteorite Crater to save Mr. Snake.
After a big warm hug between Mr. Snake and Mr. Wolf, with the gang all together, Mr. Wolf's Car explodes upon impact and the gang uses a grappling hook for their safety, while Marmalade loses his mind control helmet due to the car's explosion shockwave, resulting the guinea pigs going back home. Upon getting up, Chief Luggins arrests the gang after the gala meteorite heist, to which Diane wanted to reveal her criminal status to save the gang's arrestment, but Mr. Wolf and the gang decided to take the heat by stating that Diane is a big fan of redemption arcs while deciding to turn themselves in, saving Diane from revealing her former criminal status. Soon enough, Marmalade comes back with the meteorite, to which Tiffany Fluffit with the media and the public praises Marmalade for saving it, which angers Mr. Snake, the gang after Marmalade insults them for saying that bad guys = bad, good guys = good.
However, while Professor Marmalade was being interviewed by Tiffany, Chief Luggins notices that its not the meteorite, its a lamp, which shocks everyone but Mr. Snake, to which, he was darkly laughing. Turns out, after storming off fuming, Mr. Snake ended up both loving his tail wagging and schemed his own plan for a payback to Marmalade. Teaming up with Marmalade as both were bad guys in the end, Mr. Snake asks if he could use the mind control helmet, to which Mr. Snake controls the guinea pigs to steal the lamp displayed in Marmalade's mansion, giving it a paint job, and replaces the original meteorite with the lamp. This means that the meteorite chase was all over a lamp as the original meteorite was placed back on where the gang stole it. As Mr. Snake and Marmalade were off to chase the gang, Mr. Snake controls the guinea pigs to put the original meteorite back in its original place and was set into overdrive, which had been into overdrive over the span of the chase. Marmalade then questions if that's the lamp, where is the meteorite, to which Mr. Snake laughs at him and says the old switcharoo. As Mr. Snake snaps his tail, the Marmalade Mansion explodes with the overdriving meteorite, shocking Marmalade, having him completely outsmarted and exposed as the real meotorite thief, as the gang goes to prison all smirking to Marmalade, while Mr. Piranha still saying buy mostly taunting that the lamp looks like a posterior. As the lamp falls on top of Marmalade, Chief Luggins also notices that the diamond near him isn't just any kind of diamond, to which Marmalade ends up being put the blame for being the Crimson Paw after Luggins identified the diamond being the Zumpango Diamond, much to Marmalade's foolish efforts to tell everyone that Diane is the Crimson Paw, but everyone ignores him as they all now know he's a good for nothing liar both fake and real crimes.
During the car ride to prison, the gang praises Mr. Snake for pulling off the biggest old switcharoo, with Mr. Snake stating that the meteorite was dangerous and somebody had to destroy it. Mr. Wolf also softly praises him as well, but Mr. Snake responded that he not only fooled Marmalade, he also got Mr. Wolf to admit how much he cared about him. Mr. Wolf then asks who left the one push pop in the fridge which surprises Mr. Snake, to which Mr. Wolf says that he knew Mr. Snake was a Good Guy after all, with the gang all laughing, much to Mr. Snake's surprise.
A year later after the events of the film, and it is once again Mr. Snake's birthday, to which Mr. Wolf asks if he met a genie, what would be his 3 wishes, to which Mr. Snake says he's fine with what he got: Freedom, Friends, and good reptile scales for his age. As they leave, they all laugh about Mr. Snake saying how good he looks for his age. Stuck in the middle of the a desert from the outskirts of Los Angeles, Mr. Snake ends up "wishing for a ride", to which Mr. Wolf makes his "wish" come true. Diane with the tree kitten comes to pick up the gang, which surprises Mr. Wolf as its his car, but fixed from scratch up. Mr. Wolf asks the audience if they aren't so scary after all. Mr. Wolf tells Ms. Tarantula to "hit it", she puts a song, all putting a pair of sunglasses, and Mr. Wolf drives back to Los Angeles with everyone in joy.

The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday[]
Prior to the events depicted in the film, the Bad Guys are traversing the city with the intention of carrying out a bank heist on Christmas. They plan to use the fact that people will be preoccupied with celebration in their homes. During a parade, their vehicle becomes entangled with a cherished Santa Claus balloon, resulting in its unintentional destruction. Consequently, the city's morale plummets to such an extent that Christmas is called off. Worried about the feasibility of their crime, the Bad Guys decide to uplift the spirits of the city. Initially, Webs proposes substituting the balloon with a Santa Claus exoskeleton she has constructed, however, the remaining members of the group object, seeing it excessively menacing in appearance. Alternatively, Wolf proposes the idea of reconstructing the balloon, but, the outcome is unsightly and subsequently abandoned.
With only 12 hours remaining before Christmas morning, their intention is to infiltrate a radio station in order to broadcast Christmas songs once more, as they have been supplanted by rap music. Meanwhile, Wolf and Snake will pilfer presents and distribute them to people's residences. Despite the plan's success, Wolf believes that snow is necessary to completely revive people's enthusiasm. To do this, Webs alters a street-side shaved ice machine. However, Wolf, against her instructions, amplifies its power output. The snowfall commences, but rapidly escalates into an ice storm that instills fear and panic throughout the city. The gang admonishes Wolf for his proclivity to exceed reasonable limits, but they pardon him when he confesses that his intention was merely to orchestrate the most exceptional heist for their benefit, rather than seeking to impress them. Wolf using the Santa Claus exoskeleton to disable the ice machine. After the storm subsides, the exoskeleton assumes the role of the city's esteemed champion and symbol. Using its microphone, Shark instructs the inhabitants to return to their residences.
The criminals return to their secret location, but, they have contracted a respiratory illness and are unable to proceed with the planned theft. Unexpectedly and with a sense of disappointment, they discover gifts from Santa Claus, despite their consistent acts of kindness. Consequently, they initiate the development of a strategy to burglarize Santa's workshop in order to demonstrate their eligibility for the naughty list.

Trivia[]
- According to his mugshot, he is 1'0′′ ft tall, weighs 98 pounds and was born on July 2, 1965. If the film takes place in either the year 2020, 2021 or 2022, the year of release, that would make Snake 57 years old, making him the oldest of the Bad Guys. However, this is contradicted within the movie itself. The date on the gala security camera is September 7th, and since his birthday was the day before, that would mean he was born September 6th. Furthermore, a scene was originally planned to show when Snake and Wolf met at school, meaning that, like in the books, they would likely have similar birthyears. (Wolf's birthdate, according to his mugshot, is October 19th, 1991.)
