Biography[]
Mr Mackay is the strict and shouty prison guard at HM Slade Prison who suffers no fools and doesn't allow the prisoners to walk over him. He normally came into conflict with prisoner Norman Stanley Fletcher, with Fletcher normally attempting to jokingly bait and wind up Mackay to get a reaction. Despite this Fletcher is happy when Mackay remains on when he decides not to transfer away from the prison.
Mr Mackay makes his final chronological appearance in the 1978 spin-off Going Straight, which follows Fletcher's release from prison. Mackay resigned his role from HM Slade as he looked to new opportunities in London. He and Fletcher ended up sharing the same carriage, much to Mackay's dismay. Despite this the pair of them wished each other good luck and parted their separate ways.
Trivia[]
- In the short-lived 2016 revival of Porridge Mr Mackay's role is taken over by similar substitute Mr Meekie, who is in a feud with Fletcher's grandson.
