~ Mrs. Gump to Forrest

Mrs. Gump is the tritagonist of the 1994 dramedy film Forrest Gump. She is Forrest's mother and mentor throughout the film until her death. She is portrayed by Sally Field.

Story[]

Mrs. Gump is first seen taking Forrest home from the doctor who got him his braces. On the way home, she tells Forrest to not let anyone tease him by calling him different, as God intended everyone to be different. She also reads Forrest Curious George and tells him that his dad "went on a vacation and never came back." Later, she is seen scolding Forrest for interrupting a nice young man, later revealed to be Elvis Presley. After that, she takes him to the bus stop. Mrs. Gump is seen watching Forrest when he visited John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. When Forrest came home after leaving the Army, she has collected a ton of Forrest Gump merch. Shortly after Forrest got rich due to his shrimp company, Mrs. Gump got sick and Forrest went to see her before she died. It is then that she said words that stuck with Forrest forever: "Life is like a box with chocolates." She then died later of cancer, causing Forrest to become lonely until Jenny, Forrest's childhood friend, came to live with him temporarily.

Personality[]

Mrs. Gump is kind, selfless, wise, and loving. She has no bad traits and really cares for her son. She shows pride in his achievements, as we see her with a ton of merch after he became a renowned ping-pong star. Without a doubt, she inspired Forrest to do his heroic and caring acts throughout the film.
