Overview[]
Kamala Khan is a mutant hybrid who is a student at Coles Academic High School and is a super fan of the Avengers, particularly Carol Danvers whom she views as her idol. After possessing genetic powers linked to the Noor Dimension as she is a descendant of Aisha, she was able to harness her powers upon wearing a special bangle of unknown origin, becoming a superhero in Jersey City.
Sometime later, Kamala was soon approached by Najma and her son Kamran, with Najma explaining that she and her team, the Clandestines, were exiled from the Noor Dimension, alongside Aisha, and that they wished to return home. However, the Clandestines quickly betrayed Kamala, forcing her to battle them while also attempting to avoid being captured by Damage Control, an organization led by Sadie Deever. Kamala traveled to Karachi, where she met Red Dagger and learned of the danger of the Clandestines' goals. Kamala was then sent through time to 1947, where she met a dying Aisha and fulfilled a predestination paradox by helping her younger grandmother Sana leave India, before being sent back to the present day.
Upon her return, she managed to successfully convince Najma to seal a rift to the Noor Dimension that had opened as it would assimilate and destroy all life on Earth, which resulted in Najma's death. Kamala's identity was then discovered by her mother, who revealed it to the rest of their family.
When returning to Jersey City, Kamala, with assistance from her family, friends and community, fought against Damage Control, saving Kamran from being apprehended by them in the process. Afterwards, Kamala spoke with her father, who referred to her as their "Ms. Marvel" and she decided to adopt it as her superhero name. She was informed by Bruno Carrelli that she also possessed mutant genetics. Shortly after, Kamala's bangle caused her to abruptly switch places with Carol Danvers.

Trivia[]
- A recurring trend in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is for characters to have different backstories or have their superpowers work in different ways from the comics, Ms. Marvel however is noted to be one of the most drastic instances of backstory changes; In the comics, Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman who after being exposed to Terregen Mist became a polymorph with the ability to stretch and "embiggen" her limbs, in the MCU she is a Djinn descendant who can harness the power of an alternate dimension to create solid light constructs.
- Despite the major changes, this iteration of Ms. Marvel's use of hard light construct powers strongly resemble her original powers in the form of creating hard light extensions of her limbs that act in a very similar way to her "embiggen" stretchy limbs.
- It has been largely speculated that this major change to Kamala Khan was decided due to the very poor reception of the Inhumans TV series, which itself had suffered multiple production issues and disputes with MCU's main producer Kevin Feige being very reluctant to do an Inhumans project at the time, and later brought into quesiton the canon of the pre Disney+ TV shows. Because of these disputes, by the time Ms. Marvel debuted the Inhumans had not been properly introduced into the MCU, thus requiring Kamala to have a different origin.
- In episode 6 of the Ms. Marvel TV Series it was revealed that this version of Ms. Marvel is actually a Mutant rather than an Inhuman like in the comics. It is worth noting that originally Ms. Marvel's writers wanted to make Kamala Khan a Mutant as well. However, due to 20th Century Fox owning the film rights of the X-Men at the time, higher ups were reluctant to introduce new X-Men characters. With Disney obtaining the rights to the X-Men, however, the live-action version of Kamala Khan was allowed to be a Mutant.
- A year later after being declared a mutant, her comic book counterpart made her both Inhuman and Mutant hybrid.
- This version of Ms. Marvel and her family members are muslims, but she and her family are Pakistani descendants in the marvel comics.
