Let's get mucky!

Muck to the rescue!
~ Muck's other famous catchphrase

Muck is one of the main characters of the BBC children's show Bob the Builder and is one of Bob's machines. Muck is male in the UK and female in the US (in the 1999 series).

Muck is voiced by Rob Rackstraw (who also voices Scoop, Spud, Travis, Mr. Bernard Bentley and many other characters) in the UK, and Lachele Carl in the Original Series and Project: Build It and Sophie Aldred in Ready, Steady, Build! in the US. In the 2015 reboot, he is voiced by Paul Panting in the UK and Vincent Tong in the US.

Biography[]

Muck was the second machine to join Bob's Can-Do Crew, as he/she joined when Bob bought him/her to help Scoop with digging out the foundations, due to Scoop having a bit of trouble digging them all by himself.

Personality[]

Muck tends to be very silly but also very light-hearted, he/she tends to enjoy getting dirty and does not like to have wash, and he/she only does occasionally wash herself when she feels like it. He/She also has nyctophobia, which means that he/she has a condition where she is afraid of being in the dark. Sometimes, he/she tends to get silly to the point he/she gets into trouble, but he/she does learn her lesson in the end. Muck is friends with everyone in the Can-Do crew, most notably Dizzy, in which it is revealed that they are both best friends.

Trivia[]

  • While the rest of Bob's machines are based on or around real-world construction vehicles, Muck is the main exception, almost no vehicle in real life features Muck's combination of features.
  • Early descriptions of Muck in the US referred to him/her as a bulldozer.
  • While male in most dubs, Muck is female in the US, Greek, Brazilian Portuguese, Swiss German, Korean, and Bulgarian dubs.
    • Muck is male in the UK version and female in the US version (prior to the 2015 reboot series in which Muck stops being female in the US and becomes male in both English versions).
    • The US version is not the only dub in which Muck is female. In the Greek, Brazilian Portuguese and Korean versions, Muck is also female.
    • Muck is incorrectly listed as male on the Universal Kids site despite being female in the US dub.
    • Muck is the only machine to have different genders between the UK and US dub.
    • However, Muck's Reboot Series counterpart is male in both English dubs but is female in Japanese dub.
    • Wendy and Dizzy were originally the only two main female characters in the UK dub, they decided to make Muck as female in the US dub instead.
    • As Muck is female in the US, Greek, Bulgarian, Brazilian Portuguese, Swiss German, and Korean dubs, anyone could say that Muck is a tomboy in those dubs.
  • Muck's original movement sound effect was a repeating thumping sound.
  • Muck was the second machine bought by Bob.
  • Muck was the first vehicle that Wendy had a ride on.
  • In the Finnish version, Muck is called "Pusku".
  • There are several episodes where Muck has a visible trailer hitch on Muck's rear in the same design as Travis's and Roley's, though more often than not, it often only appears for story purposes, notably in episodes where Muck has to pull a trailer, the only ones Muck has pulled are the line marking machine and Travis's wooden trailer. Even when Muck's hitch is featured, it only shows up in a few specific scenes before vanishing afterwards.
  • Muck was mentioned in the lyrics of the song Big Fish, Little Fish (Cardboard Box)
  • The Born to Play toy of Muck appears in the Balamory episode Truck Parade.
