Mugman is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Cuphead) of The Cuphead Show! Netflix series. He is the younger and more responsible brother of Cuphead and he lives in a Kettle house with their caretaker, Elder Kettle. Back then they used to be more bored doing chores but then he's actually scared of doing adventures with Cuphead.

He is voiced by Frank Todaro while for the Japanese version, he is also voiced by Kensho Ono.

Appearance[]

He is a normal cup with a normal white body and a teacup as his head. He appears to be wearing a black shirt, a blue and white striped straw protruding out the back of his head, along with liquid (you can also call it Milk) filling his head.

Possibly normal eyes, a big nose, and he wears yellow gloves like Bugs Bunny from the old Looney Tunes cartoons and "Looney Tunes Cartoons" TV Show, blue shorts, and brown shoes. However his gloves is different just like in the game.

For another appearance, Mugman also wears blue underwear.

Personality[]

In The Cuphead Show!, Mugman is notably more cautious. Compared to the game and the show, Cuphead and Mugman fight while it never happens in the game, either because of an actual reason, or simply because they are "not supposed to" even though it's a rule. Mugman is shown to be a bit cowardly and easily prone to stage fright. He tends to be frightened by anything that appears scary, although during the episode Dangerous Mugman, he became more courageous and confident when he believed wearing Cupman's goggles would magically make him braver. This also shows he can be somewhat gullible to an extent. Despite this, he was able to point out every time The Devil attempted to trick Cuphead in the episode Sweater Off Dead.

Biography[]

Cuphead and Mugman lived happily in Inkwell Isle together with their caretaker Elder Kettle. While Cuphead and Mugman were painting the fence, Cuphead mentioned that maybe instead of having the same old and boring stuff everyday, they wanted to go on a adventure together, while they're getting more paint, they saw a new carnival which is known as "Carnevil". After they saw that carnival, he was known as a expert of Soulball, while the Devil noticed Cuphead having his fun, the Devil decided to go and fight the Cuphead but then ended up getting his Soulball Machine destroyed.

Back then, Mugman is now on adventures fighting the Devil with his brother Cuphead, while Cuphead is mostly the problem to the Devil, Mugman will be there to help him especially when Cuphead is on danger.

History[]

Carn-Evil[]

Cuphead and Mugman were painting the fence but then when they were getting more paint, they saw a new carnival and then go there while Mugman doesn't want to but then Mugman went happy after going to the carnival. While Cuphead and Mugman still have enough time to paint the fence but Cuphead instead played Soulball in the carnival. While Cuphead is winning in Soulball, the Devil showed up and now is going to try kill both Cuphead and Mugman ever since Cuphead lost once because of Mugman.

Baby Bottle[]

When Elder Kettle is giving both Cuphead and Mugman two rules, he doesn’t want them to touch the radio or fight but then when Cuphead and Mugman didn’t listen, they just started fighting and almost touched the radio. When the door was knocking, Cuphead and Mugman saw a baby inside so they need to take care of it but it was harder than they thought. The baby went crazy and even destroyed the house, Elder Kettle didn’t get mad but he gets mad about his radio. Now the baby ripped his mustache and he’s gonna kill 3 of them but they decided to hide 1st and get their weapons to fight. After they were ready, the baby is inside the basket and they decided to bring the baby to another house.

Ribby & Croaks[]

One Day, he & Cuphead get into an argument over who "sleep-ate" the others ice cream last night, prompting Elder Kettle to give the money to buy more ice cream. Along the way, the brothers enter an on-boat Casino owned by the frog brothers Ribby & Croaks, they sneak into the ferry but soon get chased by the brothers around the ferry, during the chase, he & Cuphead make peace for their earlier feud & after surviving the ferry sinking, return home with the ice cream they came for.

Abilities[]

Despite not having powers like he did in the game, due to Elder Kettle still being unaware the Devil is after the boys, Mugman is not helpless.

Mugman is fast, durable, and is able to detach his head.

Mugman is extremely perceptive and detailed oriented. He was able to pick up signs that the Carnival wasn't what it seemed by observing his surroundings. This has come in handy several times when avoiding the devil. He is also able to retain memory quiet well, being able to remember Quadratus's advice and prevent Cuphead from removing the sweater.

Mugman has shown to be a capable swordsman as he was able to to wield one against a crab monster in "High-Seas Adventure." It's possible he learned from Elder Kettle as he used a cutlass.

Mugman has shown to be talented in the culinary arts, being able to bake pies, and cakes. He also shows other talents such as knitting, and being able to build a log cabin with a stove, despite the limited resources he has.

Weaknesses[]

Mugman is prone to being a nervous wreck under high stressed situations. He also tends to freeze up when he's the center of attention, or has to do public speaking in front of a large crowd

Though he tends to be more perceptive of the duo, Mugman can be oblivious at times such as being ignorant to Baby Bottle's true nature until the end.

Mugman tends to worry alot which fuels his anxiety, and may have a sense of insecurity due to being overshadowed by his big brother which can make him become dangerously jealous.

Just like how Cuphead depends on him, Mugman seems to depend on Cuphead for safety.

Trivia[]

  • Mugman on the show doesn't actually have any of the shooting powers seen in the video game.
  • Had Mugman not distracted Cuphead while he was playing Soul Ball, he may have not owed the Devil his soul. However, it was Cuphead's idea to ditch their chores and go to the carnival in the first place, something which Mugman initially objected to do.
  • In the episode, The I Scream Man, Mugman is imagining him and Cala Maria as love interests in a book. This is possibly a reference as to how the two are shipped together by fans of the original game.
