Biography[]
Mycroft Holmes is the older brother of Sherlock and the villainous Eurus Holmes. Due to Eurus' out of control and homicidal nature, he had her death faked and had her imprisoned, making his parents believe she had died. Sherlock had blocked out memories of her due to the trauma of Eurus causing his best friend to disappear. Whilst Mycroft climbed the ranks of the government and had a relatively laid back and comfortable life, Sherlock used his own intelligence to become a consulting detective and began working for Scotland Yard. Sherlock resented Mycroft and deemed him his "archenemy". In 2010 when retired soldier John Watson became Sherlock's flat mate, Mycroft forced John to have a clandestine meeting with him. Mycroft asked asked him to look out for Sherlock. A couple of days later Mycroft made his presence known, in which Sherlock revealed to John Mycroft is his brother.
Triiva[]
- In the original books Mycroft is overweight, whereas in the series he is portrayed by a slim Mark Gatiss. Homage to his original appearance is made when it is revealed that Mycroft was overweight before the events of the series but managed to lose it. In the 2016 special "The Abominable Bride", which takes place in Sherlock's mind in a recreation of 1800s London, Mycroft appears overweight in the dream.
- Before the revelation he was Mycroft Holmes, his initial appearance in the first episode was meant to serve as a red herring that Mycroft could have been Jim Moriarty.
