First of all, let me introduce myself. I'm Nabooru of the Gerudo. I'm a lone wolf thief. But don't get me wrong! Though we're both thieves, I'm completely different from Ganondorf.
~ Nabooru

Nabooru, also known as the Sage of Spirit, is a major character in the 1998 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and its 2011 remake, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

She is the second-in-command of the Gerudo Tribe and Ganondorf's right-hand. However, after growing disillusioned with her master's crimes, she teams up with Link to overthrow the Gerudo king and eventually joins the Seven Sages.

She is voiced by Yayoi Jinguji.

History[]

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[]

As a child, Link entered the Spirit Temple and met a nice Gerudo named Nabooru who used to serve under Ganondorf as his second-inc-command. However, in light of him becoming a tyrant over Hyrule and committing atrocities such as stealing from women and children and even killing people, she refused to acknowledge such an evil man as her king and rebelled against him. Therefore, she was there looking for the Silver Gauntlets, which allow anyone who wears them to push and pull heavy things and she needed to infiltrate the Spirit Temple to mess up Ganondorf and his followers' plans. However, she wasn't able to reach them due to not being able to fit through a small crawl space, so she tasked Link with getting them for her, promising to do "something great" for him in return if he's successful.

However, after Link obtained the Silver Gauntlets, Nabooru was ambushed and captured just outside the temple by Koume and Kotake, two witches who are Ganondorf's nannies and servants and guard the Spirit Temple. Link later travels back there seven years later as an adult and battles his way to the boss room, where he encountered a large Iron Knuckle who was actually Nabooru brainwashed by Koume and Kotake. After defeating her and snapping her out of her brainwashed stae, he battles the two witches, both in their separate forms and combined formed named Twinrova. After defeating them, Nabooru awakens as the Sage of Spirit and gives Link the Spirit Medallion.

Once Link heads back to Ganon's Castle after awakening all of the sages, along with the others, she helps form a rainbow-colored bridge that allows Link to pass over the lava and enter his stronghold. At the climax of the final battle, after Link has battled Ganondorf in his Ganon form and weakened him, she's called upon along with the other sages by Zelda and helps seal Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm. She is last seen in the end credits along with the other sages (sans Rauru) appearing on Death Mountain, looking down on Hyrule and smiling over its liberated state before departing.

Trivia[]

  • Urbosa's Divine Beast Vah Naboris in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is named after Nabooru, since she was responsible for the Gerudo's reformation from being a reclusive gang of thieves, to being more involved in foreign trade with the other races across Hyrule.
  • Each of the seven sages in Ocarina of Time correspond with one of seven heavenly virtues. In Nabooru's case, it would be kindness (the opposite of envy). This is out of repulsion of Ganondorf's evil, she allows herself to be attacked by Twinrova so that a child Link can be safe. She also allows him to use the Silver Gauntlets in the future as he found them first and so he can save Hyrule along with defeating Twinrova and Ganondorf.
