Up to now, you have fought thinking it's okay to die. That's why you never once tried to avoid damage. Fighting to die, thinking it's okay to die... is completely wrong. Fight to live. Even if you have no future.
~ Nagi Saijyo to Ren Senjyu
That's good. That hatred will give you the power to fight. That's what's carried me this far.
~ Nagi to Komon.
Fear... as long as you have hatred you can beat it.
~ Nagi to Sara Mizuhara.

Nagi Saijyo (西条 凪, Saijō Nagi) is the tritagonist of Ultraman Nexus. She is the deputy captain of Night Raiders and the fourth Deunamist of Ultraman Nexus.

She was portrayed by Yasue Sato.

History[]

Nagi's parents were among the scientists who collaborated with the extraterrestrials known as the Visitors to establish TLT. It's supposed that she lived in Colorado for a portion of her early years. The body of one of the researchers served as the host for the entity known as Dark Zagi when it arrived on Earth at that time. When a young Nagi was looking for her mother in the woods, Dark Zagi dropped her mother's body in front of her and killed every member of the scientist who was there. Despite the fact that Nagi's memories of the incident were partly distorted—likely as a result of Zagi's abilities—the trauma left her scarred for the rest of her life and gave her a strong hatred for anything related to Space Beasts, particularly those that assumed human form.

Years later, she would enlist as a Night Raider for TLT, the same group her parents helped form, with the intention of eliminating every Space Beast out of retaliation. She learned from then-Deputy Captain Shinya Mizorogi, whom she developed strong affections for, during her time as a rookie. As their relationship deepened, the two confided in one another about their darkest secrets and concerns. He and Nagi entered a building by themselves one night and discovered themselves up against the zombie version of Beast Humans—corpses that had been inhabited by beast cells and used as puppets by some evil force.

Following their encounter, the two concluded that only one would take on the beast because of its ability, which rendered teamwork dangerous. He and Nagi exchanged dog tags to formally swear to murder each other should they succumb to the creature's influence. After Komon joined the Night Raiders and Jun Himeya assumed the role of Ultraman, the now-Mephisto-possessed Shinya repeatedly engaged the Night Raiders in combat and proved to be a formidable opponent. Later, Shinya contacted Nagi to remind her of their agreement, and it seems that if Himeya, Wakura, and Komon hadn't shown up, he would have won her over.

When Shinya's dark field and Galberos materialized, he appeared unstoppable—that is, until Nagi shot her former lover in the back, forcing him to back down and demonstrating her lack of desire to follow him. Later on, Nagi takes part in Ultraman's last conflict with Mephisto. Nagi learned of an amnesiac Shinya who was ignorant of his past at some point after the light selected Ren to be the new Dunamist. After regaining his memories, Shinya escaped from custody, and Nagi and Komon pursued him and his hostage. It appeared that, despite their desire for retribution, things would have concluded amicably if Misawa hadn't shot Shinya.

Misawa attacked and drove the three back after revealing that he was the next Giant of Darkness. Komon and Nagi, who were running from the giant, observed Ren pretending to be Ultraman and engaging him in a losing struggle. But just as the villain was about to dispatch the giant of light, Mizorogi summoned his might and transformed into another Dark Ultra, although this time he was fully in control of himself. He used this devastating force for good, no longer a puppet. The two Mephistos engaged in a power battle to save Ultraman, but Shinya was hindered by his wounds. As Zwei plunged his swords into Mephisto's abdomen, the once-dark behemoth was on the verge of collapse.

Knowing he had used up all of his power and life, he whirled around and gripped the other tightly while yelling for Ultraman to shoot. Ren unleashed his Arrow-Ray Schtrom, eliminating Dark Mephisto Zwei as Mizorogi assumed his human form, ultimately dying as a human who had found redemption for his soul in Nagi's embrace. He informed Nagi, just before he died, about the Space Beasts, Dark Giants, and the entity known as Unknown Hand. In addition, he revealed to her that Unknown Hand was disguised and infiltrated in TLT.

Nagi inherited the light following Ren's last battle with Izmael, and as she passed along a hallway in the center of the base, the Evoltruster materialized in her palm. Sensing the spark within Nagi, Unknown Hand eventually came forward to identify himself as Mitsuhiko Ishibori, the Night Raider analyst. Flipping on the others, he appeared to have killed Shiori, injured Captain Wakura, and would have killed Komon if Nagi hadn't arrived in time. He mirrored her strike back at her and walked away, leaving Nagi powerless to halt his march to Level O despite her newfound abilities.

Ishibori then broke through the security perimeter that the guests had set up and accessed Level 0 of the base. The recent arrival of Space Beasts in populated regions has reduced their potential barrier and consequently their powers. Now that they were out of the way, he could enter Lethe. Illustrator (the real one), Komon, the captain, and Nagi eventually showed up to stop him. At that moment, he disclosed his true identity, Dark Zagi.

Then, when Zagi exposed the depths of his schemes, he spoke of how he knew Nagi would one day be a Dunamist and that's why everything he did, including creating Mephisto and Faust, was done to increase the light for when she gained it. He then easily defeated all resistance against him. Zagi made himself known as the one who had killed Nagi's parents many years prior, taunting her in the process. All of this was done to coerce her into acting on her own hateful whims and transforming into Ultraman. Illustrator protested about her action, but Nagi keep transforming out of her pure hatred and anger, only managing to make his scheme work. Lethe was programmed to store all memories related to Space Beast, and Nagi's anger served as a catalyst to activate the machine.

Tendrils of darkness released by the construct connected Nexus to Lethe. The Light would be depleted when the device attempted to access her memories since her trauma had tarnished it with fear and anger. Zagi absorbed the energy and transformed back into his Ultra form, leaving Nagi defenseless. Zagi abandoned her in a pitch-black field and went on the offensive against Earth, beginning at Shinjuku, the starting point. But Komon would not let things end that way, and as it consumed Nagi's form, it plummeted into the darkness. Komon made his way toward Nagi in the shadows and called out to her. The two held hands, their bond forming the light that gave Nexus his powers back.

They both entered the reenergized giant of light, and they swiftly made their way to Shinjuku, where they arrived in time to see Dark Zagi go on his rampage. Komon discovered that he now had the Light while the wicked monster continued to demolish the city.

As he yelled out the Ultra's name for the first time in the series, Nexus, Nagi watched, understanding its meaning more than any of her known predecessors. After seeing Komon transformed into Nexus, Nagi watched him fighting Zagi and she told captain Wakura that Komon as Ultraman Nexus will not lose against Zagi as Komon finally able to regains Nexus' long lost form, Ultraman Noa.

A year after Komon as Nexus/Noa defeated Zagi, Nagi alongside other NR members are now responsible for the eradiction of Space Beasts across the globe since Space Beasts are now not under Zagi's control anymore.

Personality[]

Member Komon. They're all Beasts. This time change your hatred to power and finish it off!
~ Nagi Saijyo to Kazuki Komon

Due to her trauma of seeing her parents murdered by Dark Zagi in front of her as a child, Nagi burdened with a great deal of hatred of any inhumane beings such as Space Beasts and Dark Ultras. With her hatred, she joined Night Raiders only for the sake to avenge her parents' death and kill Space Beasts as much as possible. She also encouraged her comrade Komon to fight any opponents with hatred and indoctrinated him that only with hatred his power could increase and become more powerful.

Beneath her vengeful nature, Nagi still harbours her merciful side as she encourage her former lover Mizorogi to redeem himself after losing his Dark Mephisto's power and nearly killed by Misawa/Dark Mephisto (Zwei). In addition to this, she also holds some empathetic qualities such as giving an encouragement to captain Wakura and other Night Raiders members in saving Ren from dangerous human experimentation despite the action labeled as a rebellion against TLT and warns Ren to fight to live despite his worsening condition from genetic defect.

After she get her power absorbed by Dark Zagi and saved by Komon from Zagi's trap, she finally realized that she can overcome her hatred and in the final battle against Dark Zagi, she told captain Wakura that Ultraman will not lose as long as there are hope and the power of bond.
