“ | If it's to carry out justice, I won't shy away from a little pain. | „ |
~ Najd |
Najd is a heroine in The King of Fighters video game series. She was introduced in The King of Fighters XIV and is the winner of a character design contest promoted between SNK and Manga Productions.
She is voiced by Ayaka Fukuhara and is designed by Saudi Arabian artist, Mashael Al-Barrak.
Overview[]
Najd is a very stoic person dressed in an Abaya (a traditional Saudi women's garment) with extraordinary powers. At night, she puts on her Abaya and becomes a vigilante to protect her fellow citizens. In contrast to her mysterious appearance, she is a college student during the day.
More of her backstory is revealed in XV. Najd is a descendant of those who first discovered the otherworldly being known as "the Dimensional Beast" - Otoma=Raga. They passed down tales of the entity and the terrifying power it possesses throughout history. Eventually, these legends made their way to Africa, where a certain tribe of mystics became adept at foreseeing Otoma=Raga's potential arrival, worshiping it as a god of destruction and rebirth. Having been trained to fell the beast should it appear, Najd has taken it upon herself to investigate everything she can about Otoma=Raga and all those connected to it. She travels to Africa in order to find the whereabouts of Dolores, the latest in the line of the mystics who revered Otoma=Raga as a deity, only to discover that she had died in a bizarre sandstorm. Najd's search for any clues that Dolores might have left behind points her in one direction - towards Kukri, the mysterious hooded man she knew from the previous tournament. Knowing full well that Otoma=Raga's arrival is nigh, Najd enters the latest KOF tournament to fulfill her duty.
Personality[]
Najd is quiet and tends to keep to herself but harbors a deep sense of justice. However, unlike Kim Kaphwan, another fighter with a deep sense of justice, Najd's sense of justice is completely different. Specifically, Najd's quotes indicate she favors retribution and punishment over redemption and repenting for one's sins; something that Kim overzealously preaches and something Najd calls him out on by saying that she "sees something twisted" in his beliefs. But just like Kim, Najd can sense what someone truly is and whether they have any dark feelings inside them.
Powers[]
- Umbrakinesis - Najd is capable of manipulating shadows to attack her opponent.
- Ignore weight - Najd can lift anyone lighter or heavier than her.
