Biography

Early Life

"Naomi" was born during the 1970s to unnamed parents, whom were killed by Frank Jaeger during the Rhodesian Civil War. Feeling remorse for his actions, Frank saved Naomi from nearly starving to death and adopted her. Naomi was raised as Frank's sister, and emigrated to the United States in the 1980s with the help of Big Boss. Frank took care of Naomi until she went to college, and Naomi became interested in genetics to learn more about herself since she didn't know or parents or ethnic origin.

Naomi later graduated from college and achieved a doctorate in genetics, specializing in nanotechnology-based gene therapy. After Solid Snake defeated Big Boss and crippled Frank during the Zanzibar Land disturbance in 1999, Naomi vowed revenge against Snake. She obtained the identity of Dr. Naomi Hunter, who had gone missing in the Middle East some years prior.

Career

In 2003, Naomi was a member of the ATGC company and was sent to oversee gene therapy for FOXHOUND and the Genome soldiers. FOXHOUND's current medical chief, Dr. Clark was responsible for testing gene therapy techniques on Gray Fox, and Naomi complied to killing her from Eva and Revolver Ocelot. Naomi then assisted Frank's escape from FOXHOUND's medical research division, and covered his death as a lab accident. She succeeded Clark as t he head of FOXHOUND's medical staff, and perfecting FOXDIE, the assassination virus. Unknown to the Pentagon, Naomi completed the virus only to get revenge on Solid Snake, and she also had an affair with Richard Ames.

Metal Gear Solid

When Solid Snake infiltrated the Shadow Moses Facility in Alaska to deal with Liquid Snake and the FOXHOUND unit in Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, and the others, Naomi attempted her revenge on Solid Snake for what he did to Big Boss and Frank Jaeger, AKA Gray Fox, the Cyborg Ninja, and injected him with the FOXDIE virus. While the injection was successful, Solid Snake survived and the virus instead took out Liquid Snake when all other attempts to kill him failed, including when Solid Snake shot down his Mil Mi-24 Hind-D gunship. After that, Naomi disappeared, regretting letting her vengeance for Big Boss and Gray Fox nearly unleash something far worse on the world.

Guns of the Patriots

By 2014, Naomi resurfaced, now in the employ of Revolver Ocelot, possessed by the will of Liquid Snake, turning him into Liquid Ocelot. Naomi is with Ocelot in the Middle East when he attempts his first try to take control of the Sons of the Patriots System using Liquid Snake's DNA, but it only results in the Praying Mantis PMC soldiers in Ocelot's employment to suffer various emotional loss of control of their bodies, throwing up, attacking each other, convulsions, and some even suffering cardiac arrest. Disgusted after seeing it, Naomi walked away, but later found Solid Snake, now Old Snake, among the soldiers, and left a syringe for him after injecting herself with it, asking him to not be a pawn of the system and live before departing with Ocelot.

She was then taken to South America to work in a lab there overseen by Ocelot's French-based PMC, Pieurve Armament. When Snake found her, she explained everything about SOP and Liquid's initial attempt to take control of it back in the Middle East and how it worked using Big Boss' genetic code as a key. Any attempt to hack into the System with a code that was not a 100% match would be blocked and blacklisted. Naomi also has Snake undress so she can analyze him regarding his impending year-long lifespan he has left, and while horrified by his elderly appearance, goes through with the tests, and discovers that the FOXDIE virus she originally injected him with has begun to mutate.

Within three months at least, it would become a dangerous pathological weapon, attacking the general populace with no ability to distinguish its real targets from innocent victims, much to Naomi's irony at how Snake tried to protect the world from nuclear annihilation and other WMDs, but now he's becoming a walking doomsday device himself. However, when Snake suggests suicide to stop FOXDIE, Naomi admits that when the host dies, FOXDIE goes with it, so Snake choosing death to stop FOXDIE might be the only option.

However, she then brings up how she found a new strain of FOXDIE in Snake, and Snake realizes that Drebin 893 must have injected it into him back in the Middle East, as the new strain is uprooting the original one, possibly destroying it before it can become pathological, but Naomi needed to do more tests to be sure. Nevertheless, she provides Snake with some syringes to help him deal with the effects of the SOP System when they affect him, before Snake suggests she help him stop Liquid. Before she can help, she clutches her head in pain before the Pieurve Armament arrive, stun Snake with a flashbang, grab Naomi, and evacuate her from the building before leaving Snake to deal with the Haven Troopers who arrived to assist them with keeping Snake pinned down while their male counterparts got Naomi to where Vamp was waiting to evacuate her from the area via helicopter.

Snake manages to fight past the Haven Troopers, Laughing Octopus, and other Pieurve Armament patrols to reach the helipad where Naomi and Vamp were about to depart, and manages to nail Vamp in the head with a single headshot to the forehead, only to then come under heavy fire from the PMCs. However, Vamp signals for the test using Solid Snake's blood to hack into SOP to begin, and the Pieurve Armament PMC soldiers begin to suffer similar symptoms to their Praying Mantis counterparts back in the Middle East. Naomi watches helplessly from the helicopter as Gekko units then arrive to attack Snake, but Drebin suddenly shows up in his Stryker to rescue both Naomi and Snake, helping them to escape past the now zombie-like PMC soldiers as they head for town where the Gekko catch up to them and cause Drebin to crash his Stryker, toppling it over on its side from sheer momentum.

However, Raiden appears at that point, and helps to keep the Gekko distracted while Snake and Naomi head to the rendezvous point where Otacon would be waiting with his helicopter to get them out of there. Naomi goes on ahead while Snake fights past the Gekko to catch up. Once both of them are on board, Snake tells Otacon to get them out of there, but as they begin their evac, they see Raiden having been restrained by Gekko as Vamp arrives to confront him. Snake frees Raiden, who overpowers the Gekko and manages to wound Vamp enough that he collapses for the moment. Using fresh Gekko reinforcements to reach Otacon's helicopter, Raiden is helped in by Naomi and Snake, but is seriously wounded himself. Naomi realizes he needs a transfusion of artificial white blood before he slips into autotoxemia and dies from blood poisoning.

Back aboard the Nomad, Naomi soon befriends Sunny and helps her cook her eggs properly, and helps with showing where Liquid is heading next: Eastern Europe, to retrieve Big Boss' body from the Paradise Lost Army, led by Big Mama, really former Patriots member EVA. While Snake goes to find Big Mama, Naomi and Sunny take Raiden to Dr. Madnar to get the dialysis equipment needed for Raiden to recover. However, after Snake meets up with Big Mama and the Paradise Lost Army, learning everything regarding Zero and Big Boss, Otacon calls over the Codec to tell Snake that Naomi left the Nomad shortly after returning from Dr. Madnar.

Snake and Otacon realize that she must have returned to Ocelot because the takeover of SOP can't work without her. Their concerns are proven true when Naomi is found on Liquid's gunboat with Vamp and several of Liquid's Haven Troopers after having sunk Big Mama's getaway boat and captured Big Boss' body. After Liquid explains everything to Snake about his plans and using the rebuilt GW to infiltrate the Patriots' AI network once he destroys JD, the master AI, with a nuclear strike so GW takes over, he will launch his insurrection.

As he leaves, he is intercepted by a joint United States Army-Marine Corps task force led by Meryl Silverburgh and her Rat Patrol Team 01. However, just as Meryl gives the order to open fire, Liquid launches his takeover of SOP, disabiling the U.S. forces' weapons and vehicles, then incapacitating them, leaving them sitting ducks for his Haven Troopers as they mercilessly shred the U.S. soldiers and Marines to ribbons, as Naomi watches horrified, knowing this is all her fault for helping Liquid. When it is all over, Liquid returns Big Boss' body to EVA, before destroying it, and leaves satisfied that his victory is assured.

The next stop for Liquid is returning to Shadow Moses to acquire Metal Gear REX's railgun to launch a non-ID'ed nuke against JD. Naomi goes with him, and when Snake finds her again, she appears to have romantically fallen for Vamp when confronted in REX's hangar after they already acquired REX's railgun. Otacon, seething with fury, orders Snake to take Vamp down and get Naomi back, also demanding justice for Emma's death at Vamp's hands. After Snake weakens Vamp with disabling his nanomachines, Raiden, fully recovered, arrives to face Vamp in one-on-one combat while Snake deals with Gekko reinforcements, including kamikaze Gekko armed with nuclear detonation charges to destroy REX and the facility.

After Raiden delivers the finishing strike to Vamp, Naomi reappears, admitting that Vamp was not immortal as everyone thought him to be, but by his nanomachines healing his wounds at an accelerated rate, turning him into a walking corpse that should have been dead already. Offering him a syringe loaded with enough nanomachine suppressant to allow him to finally die, Otacon initially hesitates to administer justice for Emma, but Vamp, wanting to end his suffering, grabs the syringe and injects himself with it. After exchanging final words with Naomi at how he can finally die, Vamp lets out one final scream before finally falling lifeless as Naomi asks for forgiveness. However, Otacon is unmoved, wondering why she sided with Liquid in the first place.

At that point, Naomi admits that, like Vamp, she should not even be alive right now. She has terminal cancer, and the nanomachines in her own body were keeping the cancer from advancing, but they have done all they can at this point, and wishing to atone for her sins, Naomi uses the nanomachine suppressant syringe to effectively commit suicide, to Otacon's horror and heartbreak. As Naomi collapses as her body succumbs to the cancer and she slowly dies, she demands that Snake and Raiden grab REX and get out of there. Otacon initially hesitates, but finally agrees to escape, powering up REX so Snake, Raiden, and the Metal Gear Mk. III can flee before the Gekko overrun them. As she watches REX prepare to escape, Naomi speaks her final words:

Promise...promise me...you'll carry on our will.
~ Naomi's last words

Naomi dies, and her body is either buried or destroyed when the kamikaze Gekko detonate and raze Shadow Moses to the ground. However, her legacy lives on as Sunny finishes the FOXALIVE virus to stop GW, and destroy JD and the other Patriot AIs, while ensuring the survival of modern civilization. A video she recorded that was programmed into the virus to play once it finishes destroying JD, GW, TJ, TR, and AL, reveals the truth of everything she had done in the name of saving humanity from the Patriots' grand scheme to enslave the civilian population into their wicked plans for the war economy. With the world safe from the Patriots' master plan and modern civilization intact, Naomi could rest in peace knowing the world was finally free of the war economy and the Patriots.

Big Boss later reveals to Snake how Naomi had helped to ensure the end of Zero's legacy in JD and the other AIs, working with him, EVA, and Ocelot, to bring an end to the Patriots once and for all.
