The Narrator is a recurring character in the Spanish-British children's show, Pocoyo.
Personality[]
He narrates the show, but also interacts with the characters. He is usually very wise, but sometimes he relies on the audience or the characters for help. Sometimes he often can be a bit playful, thinking that they're playing hide-and-seek throughout problematic situations, first seen towards Angry Alien in Angry Alien's First Halloween, when he was distracted of thinking that the alien's fearful moves is all a "game". In the special, "The Goblin Mask", he is easily scared when Pocoyo, Pato, Elly and Nina first show up in their costumes and then reveal themselves to him afterwards in relief, speaking of 'easily scared', in the episode, "Pocoyo's Band", he is often scared of loud noises, and has the ability to use an echo-y voice to calm down his nerves. He yells "QUIET!" in a loud, echo-y voice to quiet them down, and, surprisingly, the jeering audience even quiets down too. He often feels bad about the things he's done, like in "Pocoyo's Band", he apologizes about "quieting them down", but then explains to Pocoyo that the band was a bit out of hand.
In "The Silence Challenge", he can sometimes be a bit of a chatterbox and can feel the sense of guilt when the characters keep tricking him to keep talking, when he tries to leave Pocoyo's world and tells them to find a "new narrator", until Pocoyo refuses him to leave. Revealed in "The Universe Changing Remote", he is the father of Pocoyo and Pato, due to him calling them his "kids" when he called them down to tell them that the remote doesn't belong to them. He often gets distracted easily, at the end of Angry Alien's First Halloween, he immediately tells Angry Alien that it is Halloween, despite he was distracted of "playing" hide-and-seek with him, and that he scared him by doing an evil laugh on accident (rarely when he does an evil laugh he can often be heard coughing, in Pocoyo and the Haunted House).
In the episode, "Shiny!", he has (feeling like) automatonophobia (fear of robots) in the entire episode. He thought that the glowing green light was the beginning of a robot invasion, but was later revealed to be a green disco ball instead. In the episode, "Atchoo!", the Narrator has his own sickness titled 'narratoritis' and the characters have to find a way to make him feel better.
Film Theorists Reddit Theories[]
There are many theories based around the show, especially ones about the Narrator:
The Narrator is Pocoyo, (and) Pato (and Bea)'s only parental figure. That he doesn't have a wife or a single sibling (which they're not confirmed or mentioned yet), that could extend their family even more. The episode, "The Silence Challenge", even reveals bits and pieces of the Narrator's childhood which is even featured on one of the Reddit posts.
In one of the theories, it says that "July 1972" is a close connection reference to bombings, and him saying "lost about another battle, but not the war" means that he feels guilty of, possibly the UK, the show's co-produced country (much to the theory's perspective), losing a different "war".
It is unknown how is Pato "adopted", it might be possible that the Narrator found Pato's egg and decided to keep it safe before he hatched. And since he and his cousins survived, it means that Pato's grandfather, father, mother, uncle, and aunt are all deceased with an unknown reason.
Trivia[]
- In "The Silence Challenge" it is revealed that he has parents of his own, thus his mother being the only one mentioned. There is no information having to do with his father, he possibly could have passed away, due to the year that he said, 1972, was before Pocoyo and Pato were born. His parents could possibly also be Pocoyo and Pato's grandparents, thus the Narrator calling them his "kids" in "The Universe Changing Remote". This is not confirmed yet, thus this information was found.
- It is interestingly weird because he called them his "friends" in Guess What?, probably he's keeping it a secret from the viewers (not confirmed yet, as well).
- According to many fans, it is possible that he was born in the year 1962 (which is also the release year of The Jetsons), thus making him 10 years old during 1972.
- Since his possible birth year is the release year of The Jetsons, it is possible that the show might have been his childhood because of the 80's series and the 1990 movie, Jetsons: The Movie.
- Pocoyo and Pato are the only characters that he calls them by "kids", but it doesn't imply to Elly, Loula, Nina, Roberto, Sleepy Bird (and Baby Bird), Caterpillar, Angry Alien, etc. (Elly is being called a "kid" once, in The missing colors, but she isn't an official member due to her being called that only one time, meaning that Pocoyo and Pato are important to him instead of all three main characters.)
- In the special, The Missing Colors, his colours are revealed to be a colour wheel, and in the same episode, when he gets his colours back, he gets tickled and says that it makes him want to laugh. Unlike Pocoyo, Pato and Elly who don't feel a thing when their colours are brought back, the Narrator feels this as the colours might be his "powers".
- He mentioned July 1972 (The "Bloody Friday" day) in The Silence Challenge.
- His father is similar to Mrs. Cattle, Chilli's mother, from Bluey: a family member of a parent (Narrator and Chilli Heeler) who, in theory, has passed away. The Narrator didn't mention his father in "The Silence Challenge", which hints his possible passing, and Mrs. Cattle's passing is hinted by Chilli when she says that she 'was' a nice mother to her when talking to her own daughter.
