“ | An endless field of green among the clouds, eh? If the legends are true, even people like me... | „ |
~ Nia |
“ | I am burdened no longer. Not by my past, not by Jin. I am finally free! [...] I’m no longer afraid, this is who I am Rex! What's the point in living if I have to hide? Thank you for helping me see. I love you, Rex! | „ |
~ Nia longer burdened. |
Nia is the tritagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and one of the overarching protagonists of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Originally a member of Torna, she defects to Rex after Pyra's awakening. If Nia is in the lead with Dromarch on the field, the player can control him to move on the field, with Nia riding on his back.
She is voiced by Hitomi Ōwada in the Japanese version and Catrin-Mai Huw in the English version.
Story[]
Background[]
“ | Her life is tied to yours. | „ |
~ Nia's Driver |
Nia was originally an ordinary healer Blade that belonged to a lord in the Gormott Province and his daughter. However, her Driver's daughter soon got incredibly ill and resorted to selling all of his wealth in hopes of finding a cure to save her. As a result, they became drifters and the lord's daughter had passed away as a result of living under poor conditions. The nobleman then decided to have Nia consume his daughter's cells, turning her into a Flesh Eater Blade. Nia lost her immortality and was raised as the nobleman's daughter.
The nobleman eventually died as well later on, leaving behind a Core Crystal that Nia came across, leading to her resonating with it and awakening Dromarch. Later on in her life, she and Dromarch would find themselves being hunted by the Indoline Praetorium for her Flesh Eater nature, before eventually being captured. She would then find herself having escaped from her imprisonment with Jin and join Torna, which lead to her meeting and joining Rex.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2[]
After the events regarding finding Pyra and her reviving Rex by sharing her Core Crystal with him, Nia defected from the Torna group and joined Rex on his journey. During a stop at a hot spring resort, Mythra joined Nia and Poppi in the spring, but as Nia got up to leave, Mythra discovered her Core Crystal and status as a Flesh Eater. Nia asked her to keep it a secret from Rex and the others, and Mythra promised to do it. However, later during the quest to find the True Aegis Sword, when Rex and the party are being overwhelmed by Addam's Phantasms, Nia, unwilling to see anyone else die on her watch, finally decides to reveal her true power and transforms into her Blade form. With that revelation, she becomes Rex's Blade until reuniting with Pyra and Mythra, where Rex gains his Master Driver status and awakens Pneuma.
Nia switches back and forth between her Blade and Driver forms as she continues to help Rex against Malos until the final battle against him in Artifice Aion. After Malos is mortally wounded by Rex and Pneuma and dies, Nia sadly watches his particles disperse before she changes back into her Driver form for good and evacuates with everyone else while Pneuma remains behind to sacrifice herself to self-destruct Aion to destroy the World Tree. After being saved by Azurda as he returns to his adult Titan form and flies them to the new continent that the Titans are joining with, Nia is left in surprise when Pneuma's Core Crystal revives and restores Pyra and Mythra in separate bodies. Despite her own love for Rex, Nia encourages him to reunite with Pyra and Mythra, though she is seen joining Rex, Pyra, and Mythra on the title screen following a New Game Plus.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3[]
By the time of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Nia is the only member of the original group from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, aside from Poppi α, who is still alive in the world the game's events take place in. The whereabouts of Rex and the others are unknown (Though it was revealed in Future Redeemed that Rex also survives the merging of the worlds teaming up with Shulk to opposed Z and later Alpha but then became the new Avatar for the Origin alongside Shulk and A after Alpha's defeat at the hands of Matthew and N), but Nia honors their memory with using holographic projections of Pyra and Mythra's Aegis Swords when in combat alongside her Scimitar. She still keeps a photo of the old gang to remind her of the hope of seeing them again.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Healing Manipulation: As a result of being a Flesh Eater, Nia's healing powers have increased exponentially. Her powers allow her to heal her teammates but she can also manipulate the healing factors of her enemies such as Malos. She can even "invert" the healing factor to erode enemies from the inside.
- Water Manipulation: Nia also has mastery over water and implements this in her attacks and healing.
- Claws: Seems to possess claws as a result of having Gormotti cells merged with her. She used these claws to easily shred up her wanted poster.
- Weapon Manifestation: Like all Blades, Nia possesses the ability to generate a weapon that both she and her Driver, Rex, can use. Nia's particular weapon is the Catalyst Scimitar
- Force-Field Generation: Another standard ability that all Blades possess though Nia also seems to have a variant where she can use this to heal everyone inside.
