Night at the Museum
Nick lives with his divorced parents Larry and Erica. He hates having to move when his father finds a job but is fired for his lack of skills. He is afraid that he will not keep his job as a night watchman at the Natural History Museum.
After promising him a visit to the museum, he invites his friends but is disappointed to see Larry being fired by Dr. McPhee. At home, Larry explains to him that he made arrangements with the director and decides to take Nicky to the museum at night to reveal the secret of the statues that come to life at night. However, the tablet was stolen by Cecil Fredericks and his companions, the former night watchmen and Nicky activates the tablet that animates the exhibits. Larry tells him to flee, but the guards catch up with him and retrieve the tablet before locking him with Larry in the tomb room of Pharaoh Ahkmenrah. The latter wakes up and helps Larry and Nicky to escape. Later, with the help of the exhibits, Larry chases Cecil out of the museum, and Nick rides Rexy with Ahk.
During the night party, Nick is seen on Rexy again and tells Larry that he doesn't want to come home, enjoying the evening.
Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian
As a minor character, Nick helps his father guide him through the Smithsonian to find his friends captured by Kahmunrah, Ahkmenrah's older brother.
He also appears at the end of the film, working at the box office and greets Larry in the distance.
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
In the third film, he has a party with several of his friends but is scolded by Larry who wants him to find a job. Nick then says he would like to be a DJ in Ibiza, dismaying his father.
He then accompanies his father to the British Museum in London to repair the tablet whose powers are beginning to wear out. He also meets Sir Lancelot who gives him several tips and tells him not to give up on his dreams. Towards the end of the film, Nick is threatened with being killed by Lancelot who wants to recover the Tablet and give it to Guinevere.
He then follows Larry and the others to find Lancelot who redeems himself and the Tablet regains its power after being exposed to the Moon. Finally, Nick refuses to be a DJ and thinks about going to college instead. With that, he greets his father and goes to his mother.
