Nicholas "Nick" Ramos (b. 1996-2003) is the tritagonist of the Dead Rising franchise, serving as the main protagonist of its 2013 survival video game Dead Rising 3, and minor character of its 2014 DLC The Last Agent the fourth expansion of the Untold Stories of Los Perdidos.
He is a seemingly normal survivor at first, but after getting infected and being healed of it, he is later revealed to be immune to the virus due to an experiment that Carlito Keyes had performed on him when he was a kid, meaning he contains the cure for the zombie virus in order to end the outbreaks that had been plaguing America for the past 15 years.
On June 10, 2013, in the Capcom Dead Rising 3 announcement, Nick is shown in the announcement trailer as the lead protagonist.
Personality[]
Nick seems to care about the people around him as he always puts others needs before his own and shows more humanity then Frank and Chuck as he is very reluctant to kill "living people" and felt remorse when he did it. but eventually adopts a escape or die attitude thanks to Rhonda and becomes less fazed by murdering humans but only because they deserve it and Nick still retains his willingness to help others. Although he is merciless with zombies but they are already dead anyway so this does not affect his morality.
He is shown to be heroic as when Hilde enters the police station garage, he hides from her and her soldiers but after she murders two innocents, Nick reveals himself and is shocked that she could kill people so casually which prompts him to chase her and kill her in order to avenge the two and to stop her after she attempts to kill him numerous times.
He is also selfless, deciding to not take the plane alone after getting the keys for them, wanting to take all the others with him first due to the subsequent firebombing that would have killed everyone.
Biography[]
Nick is a mechanic between the ages of 18 to 24 that works with Rhonda Finkel at her mechanical garage in the city. After seeing on a broadcast that the government will drop a bomb on the city if no signs of organic life are found but it turns out Hemlock (who is the leader of the Special Ops force that is supposed to help the survivors) is secretly killing them, including the president so that he could become the new president and get permission to drop a bomb on the city.
Nick, Dick, and Rhonda go to a quarantine zone to hopefully transfer out of the city but it turns out some anarchistic bikers have turned it into their personal base and attempt to rape Rhonda and kill Nick which turns into a fight with Nick against the leader, Hunter Thibodeaux, with Nick killing him by lighting him on fire with a molotov, causing Hunter to drive into a gas tank, killing him. This makes Nick feel guilty because he has never killed a person before and feels like there was something else he could have done instead. But Rhonda convinces him that he has to adapt a "escape or die attitude" or he will not survive the rest of the outbreak which Nick agrees to.
Nick runs into Diego Martinez, who is a lifetime friend of Nick and gives him a key for a plane so that they can all escape the city but tells them it still requires a fly wheel, altimeter, and a rudder arm and also some fuel which the others decide to try and look for.
Diego drops the keys and when Nick goes to pick it up, he is bitten by a zombie and now needs to find zombrex otherwise he will turn into a zombie in the next 24 hours. Nick goes to the morgue in Ingleton after being told that they keep emergency doses of zombrex. but he runs into Gary Finkel who tells Nick he will help him find zombrex if he helps him find a certain body. Nick decides to help Gary, but the body they find is not the one Gary was looking for and it turns out there is no zombrex left so Gary decides to give Nick the offer to put him down so that he does not have to suffer. Nick agrees but Gary's gun had the safety on so Nick turns it off but Gary ends up tripping over the corpse he and Nick found and shoots his only bullet into it.
Fortunately for Nick, his bite wound is healing itself so he does not require zombrex after all but Gary still wants him to deliver the corpse to a strip club do Nick does it but is furious when Gary requests his help again but Gary tries to justify this by telling Nick he taught him the trick with the Queen bees in order to kill zombies so that makes them even. Nick reluctantly goes to search for the woman Gary needs, but is ratted out by her and her group which Nick feels regretful for and decides to make it up to them by destroying special ops cameras, supplies, and satellite uplinks. Once Nick is done, he asked to find evidence of the Special Ops murdering civilians which Nick agrees to do and to meet them at the hotel in Central once he is done.
When Nick arrives at the station, he witnesses a married couple asking the sergeant of the special ops named Hilde Schmittendorf to help his wife. Hilde coldly orders one of her men to kill the woman and then snaps the man's neck afterwards which prompts Nick to come out of hiding, with him then telling Hilde how could she murder people with no remorse but Hilde calls him a "hero wannabe" and tells her men to shoot at Nick which leads to a fight with Nick killing Hilde after she tries to blow him up with a rocket launcher and tackles her out of a 2 story window, subsequently retrieving a USB stick of evidence from her with him then giving it to Red and Annie once he gets to the hotel which earns him Red's respect and Red decides to find fuel for the plane.
Once Nick makes it back to the illegals hideout, he is confronted by Gary, which leads to Annie thinking Nick ratted her out but Gary reveals that he stalked Nick to the base instead as he felt like Nick didn't have the balls to go through with the kidnapping and attempts to kidnap Annie but is unsuccessful due to a special ops raid. Everyone except Red and Nick is kidnapped and this leads to Nick and Red needing to rescue them. Nick asks red if he got the fuel but Red tells him that family comes first and scolds him for it.
Nick sneaks into the compound and frees all the illegals and Annie while witnessing the president's death by Hemlock which causes Nick to realize that Hemlock is the one behind the outbreak. He gets into a fight with commander Adam Kane, but Nick defeats him easily. Red tells Nick that the fuel is stored in a garage next to the quarantine zone, but questions why does Nick have a wanted poster and a number 12 tattoo but Nick tells him he has no idea.
Nick gets the fuel, but discovers that Diego had gone insane and headed to the museum for an unknown reason, taking the plane keys with him which forces Nick to find him. After Nick arrives at the museum, he finds Diego and tries to reason with him, but the two engage in a battle with Diego but Diego snaps back into reality after being defeated and shows Nick a video that showed a zombie that also had a tattoo exactly like the ones that Diego and Nick both had on their necks, which freaks them both out and makes them realize they could possibly turn into zombies but Nick decides to focus on the problems they can solve at the moment and goes to retrieve the plane key after Diego reveals he was mugged by the bikers.
After getting the key and returning to the hangar, Nick decides to look for the 3 plane parts they need but after he finishes this task, Rhonda decides she does not want to leave Los Perdidos as she wants to try and reconcile with her husband because he is all she has left. Nick lets her do this, telling her he is going to miss her. Nick tells Dick and Diego that they have to find Red and Annie so they can escape but they are ambushed by Special Ops, resulting in Nick and Diego being captured and taken for experimentation to see if they have an immunity to the virus or not.
Diego is chosen first due to being seen as pathetic, but it is too much for Diego to handle and he is killed by the worms and queens that come out of his body. Nick manages to break free before he is killed and escapes, but runs into Isabela Keyes and threatens to beat her for starting the outbreak at Willamette and for causing Diego's death. Nick demands to know the truth and Isabela tells him that she will explain everything when they are in a safe place. Nick is forced to fight the loaders after Marian locks him in the factory, so he tells Isabela to go to the warehouse at the port as that is where the plane is currently, Isabela agrees and tells Nick she will let him know everything there. Nick escapes Marian's trap and tells himself that he is getting out of the city but is taking his friends with him so he goes to the karaoke bar to find Annie.
He is confronted by Gary again, who tells him he is not getting in due to the fact he finally has the woman that his boss is looking for and will not let Nick in unless he does him the huge favour of finding Rhonda. Nick decides to find Rhonda in Ingleto, where he finds her in her garage but she has one of her arms amputated by the Special Ops so Nick makes her a mechanical arm with a flamethrower attached to it before taking her back to Gary.
Gary then lets Nick in, which allows him to save Annie and finally have an opportunity to escape Los Perdidos with everyone else. Isabela reveals the story behind the Willamette outbreak after Annie accuses her of being responsible and tells Nick and her that Carlito made one of the orphans immune so a cure could be made one day, which leads to Annie and Isabela deducing that Nick must be the one that Carlito made immune due to the fact the infectious worms could not exist inside him, leading to Nick wanting to help make a cure for the zombie outbreak.
Red tells the others he has got something to show them but it turns out to be a trap with Red working with the special ops soldiers to collect the 5 million dollar bounty that Nick has on his head. They trap Annie and Isabela in a container, forcing Nick to fight Red if he wants to free them. Nick destroys the crane which allows Isabela and Annie to escape but Nick is ambushed by Red and engages in a fight with him managing to injure him greatly with Annie dropping a container on Red to finally kill him.
Nick uses a walkie talkie from a solider to manipulate Hemlock into increasing the time to escape the city by 24 hours and him and Annie both kiss and hug each other afterwards. Gary's boss (who is revealed to be Chuck Greene) arrives to tell Annie (who is revealed to be Katey Greene) that he is sorry for what he has turned into but Nick tells him that he does not care if she is his daughter because he does not want Annie to go with a thug like him that disregards other people but the two reluctantly work together for Annie's sake.
As they are about to leave, Hemlock reveals his plans to harvest king zombies to create outbreaks wherever he and Marian go which prompts Nick and Chuck to go and stop him from collecting it. Nick destroys the drones with help from Annie and climbs up to Hemlock's helicopter in order to finish him off for good. He knocks out the pilot of the helicopter, causing them to crash and he engages in a fight against Hemlock who before killing him, tells him that Marian was right about the cure existing and that he is the cure but Hemlock just says "fuck you", before Nick kicks him into rotating helicopter blades and shredding him to death.
Shortly before escaping, Nick meets Brad Park who is on the verge of turning into a zombie. Nick scolds him as he is part of the ZDC who were not doing their jobs of saving people but Brad tells Nick to give him a chance which Nick reluctantly agrees to and gives him a dose of Zombrex before going to escape with the others.
