Commander Nick Reyes is the main protagonist of the 2016 video game Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and appears in the free-to-play mobile game Call of Duty: Siege and Call of Duty: Mobile.
Nick Reyes is the team leader of the SATO special forces unit Special Combat Air Recon, who was a Lieutenant before being promoted to the rank of Commander on the field and became the Captain of the Admiral-class space warfare carrier SWC-141 Retribution after Captain Alder was killed during the attack on Geneva, and fought against the Settlement Defense Front. He later sacrificed himself to destroy the SDF's orbital shipyard during an operation on Mars, thus changing the tide of the war.
He was motion-captured and voiced by Brian Bloom, who also voiced Keegan P. Russ in Call of Duty: Ghosts, William "B.J." Blazkowicz in the MachineGames timeline of their Wolfenstein series, and voiced Adam "Kane" Marcus in the Kane & Lynch series, Alex Shepherd in Silent Hill: Homecoming, Matt Horner in the Starcraft series, and Jackie Estacado in The Darkness II.
Biography[]
Background[]
Nick Reyes was born in the United States, and he later joined Solar Associated Treaty Organization and inducted into SCAR as a team leader, becoming the Navy's elite special forces soldier and later met Nora Salter and became a crew member of the UNSA Retribution. Reyes rose to the rank of lieutenant, and became the first officer of Captain John Alder, and had a close relationship with Salter and Admiral Fredrick Raines, when Reyes revealed that Raines drilled him and SCAR operators during Reyes' time in flight school, quoting two sentences "Hesitation is a hole in the head" and "Work the problem, respond".
Infinite Warfare[]
Reyes spoke with Admiral Raines after Admiral Salen Kotch's men killed Dan "Wolf" Lyall and SCAR Team Seven on Europa, and left after the admiral agreed with him on the situation that they should be out on patrol rather than celebrating UNSA Fleet Week. Reyes met with Salter, and also met E3N ("Ethan"), a tactical combat robot that was Raines' secret project scheduled to be displayed at the celebrations. The celebration was cut short as the Settlement Defense Front attacked Geneva, and Reyes battled until they stopped Akeel Min Riah.
Reyes, Salter and Ethan went into their jackals and flew into orbit alongside the surviving UNSA warships and the Retribution, where they fought until they were attacked by Admiral Kotch in his supercarrier, the Olympus Mons. Reyes' commanding officer of the Retribution, Captain John Alder, commandeered his ship to collide the Olympus, killing him and his XO in the process.
Reyes returned to the Retribution, and was informed by Gator that Captain Alder was killed, and that he was now the captain of the ship. Reyes decided to join on operations to stop the Settlement Defense Front, as the Retribution did not have combat ready personnel to fight. Reyes and his team, which consisted of Salter, Ethan, Usef Omar and the Staff Sergeant's UNSA marine contingent, deployed around the solar system to stop the Front in different planets. Concurrently, Reyes also killed multiple high-ranking SDF officials who were on the most wanted list, notably Caleb Thies and Bradley Fillion.
During the deployment, Reyes struggled with his priorities of stopping SetDef while trying to save his allies and crew. The acting SCAR captain also lost multiple allies during their mission to stop Kotch, such as Omar on a mining colony near Mercury, Captain Ferran and later Raines when he failed to stop Riah from letting the SDF come into orbit to Geneva. Afterwards, Reyes and his team assaulted the Olympus, and he caused the death of/kills Kotch before taking command of the ship, and taking it into orbit. Reyes ordered both the Olympus and the Retribution to attack Tharsis Shipyard on Mars to destroy SDF's major forward operating base, but failed.
Both ships were damaged during the attack, and both crashed onto Mars where Reyes attempted to save Todd Kashima, to no avail. Reyes reunited with his crew, and they decided to launch a final attack on the SDF, intending to destroy their orbital shipyard to make a stalemate between the UNSA and SDF. Despite losing most of his crew, Reyes succeeded by having Salter destroy the orbital shipyard with him on it. Reyes was then sucked into space, where he died from several debris hitting his helmet, causing him to suffocate in space. Salter visited the Wall of Remembrance in the UNSA headquarters in Geneva where the names of the Retribution crew, including Reyes', were etched on, and said "peace to the fallen".
Other appearances[]
Reyes also appeared in Call of Duty: Siege as a Unit and in Call of Duty: Mobile as part of the Season 6: To The Skies Battle Pass.
Quotes[]
“ | The needs of our planet were greater than she could supply. So we went beyond the reaches of our atmosphere. The new frontier offered the promise of a new beginning... but the distance gave way to a movement, with no connection with the place we call home. New rules, new ambitions, a new enemy. The Settlement Defense Front built an army and broke away from the Earth with blood and violence. They aren't revolutionaries. They want absolute power. They raid colonies, take resources, and control territories by force. They use their fleet to block us from raw materials we need to survive. Their mission is to erase everything Earth born. Today, the SDF is a war machine, ruled by its military. If a leader united that force... They would mobilize, and try to take our homeland. | „ |
~ Reyes about Settlement Defense Front's rise to power and intentions in the opening. |
“ | Listen up. The Front is unaware we control the Olympus. We're going to Mars. Ethan, set a drop course for SetDef's Orbital Shipyard. We'll use their own ship against them and launch a full assault from the Olympus bridge. The Front destroyed our fleet. Let's do the same to them. | „ |
~ Reyes explains about their plan to assault SetDef's Orbital Shipyard on Mars. |
“ | Nora, finish the mission. That's an order. | „ |

Trivia[]
- The character previously appeared as an Easter egg in Call of Duty: Black Ops III for the map Nuketown, doing so to represent a teaser for Infinite Warfare.
- Reyes' appearance changes throughout the game.
- He appears clean shaven in most operations except Operation Blood Storm, where he has grown facial hair.
- His face appears to be clean in the beginning, but as the game progresses, his face gets dirty.
- He appears as a skin in multiplayer for the Merc Rig.
- Holding the rank of Commander in the Navy, as well as the captain's billet of the Retribution, Reyes is the highest-ranking playable character in the Call of Duty series.
- He's the third playable character from an Infinity Ward game to speak in-game (the first being Captain Price) and the first main protagonist to do so regularly in missions as the first playable character didn't make it in the first mission.
- He is the first main protagonist from Infinity Ward to completely have dialogue, marking the end of silent protagonists in their games as their next one no longer used them.
- Reyes and Ethan (E3N) were originally scripted to survive in the final mission of Operation: Blood Storm in the reveal trailer of Infinite Warfare but was changed when the game was released.
- He is similar to Nick Mendoza from Battlefield Hardline.
- Both have Spanish last names.
- Both have been introduced as speaking playable protagonists (Nick Reyes was the first speaking main protagonist for Infinity Ward while Nick Mendoza introduced speaking protagonists for the Battlefield series).
- Both never had their identities concealed when introduced as playable characters.
- Nick Reyes is a foil to most of the main playable characters of Infinity Ward's games since Call of Duty.
- Most of the Infinity Ward protagonists are introduced as lower-ranking soldiers (usually a private or sergeant) and have a team leader. Nick Reyes is the opposite, as he is introduced as a high ranking officer (being a lieutenant) who later becomes the captain and commander of his team, giving them orders instead. This also makes him the highest ranking playable character in the Call of Duty series.
- While most protagonists have their identity hidden or barely revealed when introduced as playable characters (e.g. Soap), Nick Reyes is first seen in a pre-rendered cutscene then becomes playable.
- Most protagonists when introduced do not speak when playable. Nick Reyes always does, as it wouldn't make sense being a silent leader and not giving orders at all.
