Nikolai (Russian: Николай) is a supporting protagonist in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the 2019 reboot of the original series and the 2022 sequel Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and a playable operator in Call of Duty: Warzone.
He is the leader of the Chimera, a private military company and an old friend of Captain John Price. He assists Captain Price and his allies in capturing The Butcher to learn of Hadir Karim's location, and later aiding them in destroying General Roman Barkov's gas factory. During the war in Verdansk, Nikolai returned with Farah Karim in getting the trains back up, and helping Task Force 141 in stopping Victor Zakhaev's scheme.
He is voiced by Stefan Kapičić, who also voiced Colossus in the Deadpool films.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Nikolai's past, but he was born in Russia to unnamed parents. He later became an officer of the Russian Army, but became dissatisfied with the Soviet Union's foreign policy. Due to his sour opinion on the situation, he was recruited by MI6 as an informant and eventually left the army. After his service, he became a fixer with numerous abilities, such as speaking multiple languages such as English and German. At some point, he became the leader of Chimera, a private military company in Russia.
He also developed a hatred for Russian General Roman Barkov, stating that he sees him as stain on his country for his countless atrocities he's committed in Urzikstan. In addition, he is an old ally of Captain John Price, and has a friendly rivalry with Kamarov.
Modern Warfare[]
Captain Price called for Nikolai to capture Al-Qatala member Jamal "The Butcher" Rahar on a unsanctioned operation, and gives Price and Kyle Garrick weapons to deal with Rahar's men. Price and Garrick chase after The Butcher across St. Petersburg, and Nikolai manages to hit Rahar with a black van, and the trio escape. Later on, Nikolai kidnaps Rahar's wife and son for them to be a bargaining chip in Price's interrogation. Price manages to get information from Rahar, who reveals that Hadir Karim is at the Barkov estate, leading to Price and Garrick going there to capture him.
Nikolai later assists Captain Price, Garrick, Farah Karim and CIA operator "Alex" in assaulting General Barkov's gas factory in Georgia. He provides Alex and Farah with explosives charges to destroy the factory, and Nikolai later flies the helicopter that Barkov is escaping in. Farah later kills Barkov to avenge her family's deaths, and Nikolai tells her that "Mother Russia would approve."
Afterward, General Barkov and his forces' actions are disowned for their actions, and Nikolai, Price and Kate Laswell prepare to battle the Al-Qatala in Verdansk.
Warzone[]
In Call of Duty: Warzone, Nikolai appears in season four in voice, and becomes an operator for the Allegiance for season six alongside Farah. When the war in Verdansk continued to worsen, Nikolai and Farah were called to return the trains back online, and started to search for the Ultranationalist Victor Zakhaev. Nikolai would later assist Task Force 141 in stopping Zakhaev's scheme in launching a missile, with Price killing him after his plan was thwarted.
Modern Warfare II[]
In 2022, Nikolai is contacted by Captain Price to help him and Gaz rescue Laswell from the Al-Qatala, as she had been kidnapped by the terrorist organization during an operation in Spain. Piloting a helicopter, Nikolai and Gaz provide support from the skies as Price works with Farah and her subordinates on ground. While trying to reach the vehicle Laswell is being held, Nikolai's helicopter is hit by a launcher, causing Gaz to be thrown out and surviving due to a rope. Nikolai helps Gaz land a on a vehicle for him to drive, and continues to provide support as they rescue Laswell.
