Anna Liebert, known as Nina Fortner is the deuteragonist in the manga and anime series Monster. She is the younger twin sister of the serial killer Johan Liebert as well as his primary target and obssession.
She is voiced by Mamiko Noto in the Japanese version, and by Karen Strassman in the English dubbed.
Appearance[]
Anna and Johan Liebert may be identical twins, but their physical appearances could not be more different. While Johan possesses an ethereal complexion with his extremely pale skin and short light blond hair, Nina showcases her own unique beauty with her fair skin and slightly darker, possibly strawberry-blonde, hair cascading down to her upper back. Nevertheless, a conversation between Nina and Lotte, held during a memorable prom night, hinted at a profound belief system rooted in an opposition to nihilism. Nina seemed to embrace the notion that each individual possesses the power to shape their own destiny, and that irrespective of one's circumstances, it is possible to transcend them and strive towards creating an ideal world.
Anna Liebert stands in stark contrast to her twin brother, Johan Liebert. While Johan exudes darkness and cruelty, Anna is a beacon of kindness and cheerfulness. With dreams of becoming a lawyer, she possesses a unique perspective on the world - one that rejects nihilism and embraces the idea that individuals have the power to shape their own destinies and make the world a better place. Anna Liebert was once a cheerful and carefree young girl, until the traumatic experience of witnessing her parents' brutal murder at the hands of Johan shattered her world. In the anime, during the early moments of episode twenty one, a fleeting glimpse of a file showcasing Nina Fortner reveals her birthday to be on April 7th. However, in the manga version, this crucial detail is omitted altogether, leaving readers puzzled and without any concrete information regarding her birthdate.
During the month of May in the year 1995, an alarming and unsettling event took place in the city of Heidelberg. Within this chapter of Another Monster, a narrative unfolds describing the tragic demise of Christianne and Erich Fortner, a couple who resided in the area. To further compound the gravity of this horrific incident, it was discovered that a visiting journalist from the esteemed Heidelberg Post, named Jacob Mauler, had also fallen victim to the same untimely fate within the confines of their abode. This shocking and unexpected turn of events left the community in a state of disbelief and turmoil.
Given that Johan was responsible for the death of her parents and Mr. Mauler when they both reached the age of twenty, it can be inferred that their date of birth falls in the month of May. Moreover, if their birth occurred after the twenty-first day of May, according to astrology, their zodiac sign would be Gemini, which is symbolized by the twins.
Due to the fact that Another Monster, a novel authored by Urasawa himself, retains its original storyline and the artistic elements incorporated in the anime adaptation are not derived from the manga, it is recommended to maintain the character's birthdate as May 1975.
