~ Nomi warns Bond to stay out of her way |
Nomi is a major character in the 2021 film No Time to Die.
She is an operative of the "Double-O" (00) branch, an ultra-covert Black Ops unit within MI6. The '00' prefix indicates her discretionary licence to kill in the performance of her duties. She took over as 007 from James Bond after the latter's retirement at the end of the previous film Spectre.
She was played by Lashana Lynch, who also played Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel.
History[]
After James Bond retires from MI-6, Nomi takes his place as 007. Following the disappearance of rogue MI-6 scientist Valdo Obruchev, Nomi pretends to "bump into" Bond in a bar and goes home with him, only to tell him who she is and warn him not to go after Obruchev, not knowing that Bond refused Felix Leiter's request for help finding the scientist.
When Bond ultimately decides to help MI-6 stop Obruchev and terrorist Lyutsifer Safin from using genetically targeted nanobots to kill millions of people, however, Nomi reluctantly agrees to help him. She goes with Bond to Safin's private island, where she helps him kill several of Safin's men and save Bond's former lover, Madeleine Swann, and their daughter Mathilde. Nomi encounters Obruchev, who sneers at her that he could "wipe her race off the planet". In response to his racist taunt, Nomi asks, "What time is it?... Time to die." She then kicks Obruchev into a toxic acid pool, where he literally dissolves, before escaping the island.
After Bond sacrifices his life to save Madeleine and Mathilde after being infected by the nanobots, Nomi joins M, Q, Eve, and Bill Tanner in drinking to 007's memory.
