The Nova Corps are the overarching protagonists of Guardians of the Galaxy. They are the main line of defenses of the Nova Empire, and their main military and police forces. They arrested the Guaridians of the Galaxy once, and served as their primary enemies before their redemption, and served as necessary allies during the latter's battle with the fanatical Ronan.
History[]
Background[]
They were created at least 1,000 years ago to serve as the Nova Empire's main defense line. Their headquarters were on planet \Xandar, the capital of the Nova Empire, and for many years, succeeded in making the Empire safe, arresting criminals and locking them in their prisons, especially the high-security prison facility, Kyln. The corps are commanded by people with higher ranks, with the highest rank being Nova Prime. At the time of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, Nova Prime is Irani Rael.
Guardians of the Galaxy[]
In 2014, Star Blasters from the Nova Corps arrested people who were causing mayhem, them being Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Racoon. They were sent to Kyln, but, with the help of the already arrested, Drax, the Destroyer, they made a plan to escape. They got back the orb Nova Corps got from them, that contained a powerful singularity known as the Power Stone, one of the Six Infinity Stones. The sworn enemy of the Nova Empire, the Kree named Ronan, the Accuser, obtained the orb and set himself in possession of the Power Stone, trying to use it to destroy Xandar, and, eventually, the Empire. With the help of the Ravagers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Nova Corps fought with Ronan, effortlessly tried to prevent Ronan's ship, the Dark Aester, from touching the soil of Xandar, even making the Star Blasters share energy and form a net to create an energy blockade, that prevented the ship from flying for some time, despite sacrificing some Blasters and soldiers in the process. Eventually, the Dark Aester made its way through the blockade and crashed in the planet, but the Guardians of the Galaxy managed to distract Ronan and take the power stone from him, and later using its powers to kill him. The Nova Corps were grateful of the Guardian's actions and presented them with a new spaceship, letting them go away from the, now safe, planet.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and Infinity War[]
They were only mentioned once in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, but displayed an important play in Infinity War, though a posthomous one. In 2018, the Mad Titan, Thanos, in his mission to find the six Infinity Stones, devastated Xandar, along with the Nova Corps, presumably killing all of its members, before taking the power stone for himself, and wiping out half of Xandar's population.
Trivia[]
