~ Tony welcoming the Protagonist to the factory. |
Nubby's Number Factory is the titular overarching protagonist of the 2025 indie strategy arcade game Nubby's Number Factory. They are, according to Tony, the world's leading number manufacturer, and apparently the only thing standing between the solar system and the death of the sun.
Overview[]
Nubby's Number Factory, as its name suggests, is a factory that "manufactures numbers" via launching their mascot, Nubby, at number pegs. In creating numbers, Nubby's prevents the sun from exploding and destroying all life in the universe. It's unclear whether the sun is holding the factory hostage for numbers or simply requires them to not explode, but it requires numbers regardless.
Despite being an organisation that is required for the entire solar system to continue existing, they appear slightly more nefarious if one looks at contextual clues. For one, they possess keys that open doors to a "black market" that seems to supply illegal items, and they also have a supervisor on-staff named Criminal Tony who helps make these illegal items more accessible to the player in the normal item shop, which already appears to supply living creatures as tools. Other strange supervisors include Tony Jr., a child who seems to be aware that he's being used for child labour, and C.E.O. Tony, who appears to be the company's C.E.O. and makes fun of people for crying on the job. Additionally, their mascot, Nubby, appears to be a lab-made creature that is shown to spend most of his time plugged into machines or floating around in pipes full of goop, which also has some strange implications. Nubby is also said to "die" when he falls off the board. Nubby's Number Factory, however, is more of a gameplay-based game than a story-driven one, and so there's a big chance that none of these visual details will ever be elaborated on.
Members[]
The Protagonist[]
The Protagonist is a worker at Nubby's. It's their job to fire Nubby at the number pegs and rack up points, which will grant them coins that they can spend on items to help make more numbers.
Nubby[]
Nubby is the mascot of Nubby's, as well as their primary tool in creating numbers. When the player runs out of Nubbys, the sun will explode and the game will end.
Supervisors[]
The supervisors will supervise the protagonist as they make numbers. Different supervisors will help the protagonist in different ways. They can be unlocked by spending stars, which can be earned by playing the game.
- Tony - "The Standard Nubby Experience", Tony is the default supervisor and does nothing special. Tony is also the only supervisor available in the Challenges section.
- Octony - Octo-ny makes it so that the rare "Squid" item is 20x more likely to appear in Nubby-mart, and additionally makes them cost 50% less. Costs 5 stars.
- Tony Jr. - Tony Jr. makes the player begin the match with 15 coins, and also gives the player the option to purchase from Nubby-mart off the bat before starting the game. He also makes it so that all rare and ultra-rare items are more likely to appear in the shop. Costs 10 stars.
- Goblony - Goblony earns the player 3x the normal amount of coins for each restock, as well as raising the max capacity of coins earned to twice the original amount. This, however, comes with the disadvantage of the player losing two lives when Nubby dies instead of one. Goblony is the first supervisor to present a disadvantage that isn't included in The Standard Nubby Experience. Costs 15 stars.
- Mutant Tony - Mutant Tony makes it so that each item has two triggers instead of one. Costs 20 stars.
- Glass Tony - Glass Tony makes it so that the maximum amount of lives caps at two, but also makes it so that when an item triggers, it triggers twice. Food items and perks are not affected by this. Costs 25 stars.
- Hunter Tony - Hunter Tony makes it so that the player can no longer earn coins from restocks, but makes up for it by putting a moving bullseye at the bottom of the screen. If Nubby hits the bullseye, the player earns six coins and gets their points that round doubled. Costs 25 stars.
- Balogna Tony - Bologna Tony makes it so that each item has a completely random trigger. Because of this, the player can break the game and cause rounds to go on forever via certain loopholes. Costs 25 stars.
- Criminal Tony - Criminal Tony makes it so that items only found on the black market can appear in the regular Nubby-mart, although they are not free like they are on the black market. Costs 25 stars.
- C.E.O. Tony - C.E.O. Tony gives the player 200 coins at the beginning of the game at the cost of rendering them unable to make any more money afterwards. Costs 25 stars.
- Immortal Tony - Immortal Tony replaces Endless Mode with Prestige Mode, which gives the player the option to restart the game and attempt to play it at a slightly harder difficulty. Costs 25 stars.
Trivia[]
- The Number Manufacturer itself is the only character to have both a heroes and villains wiki article.
- While Criminal Tony is technically on the heroes wiki, within the page "Supervisors (Nubby's Number Factory)", he doesn't have his own article on the heroes wiki.
- The article for Tony!?!? is only concerning the boss fight, not regular Tony.
- This could change in the coming update, which has been announced to present a lore section.
