I come to you as a Queen who is not bound by any truths but instead one who embraces understanding.
~ Nubia to Medusa.
And I am Wonder Woman.
~ Nubia in Future State.

Nubia is a fictional character and superhero from DC comics.

Nubia was the first to assume the title of "Wonder Woman", she is a respected Amazon warrior who previously served as the guardian of Doom's Doorway. After Hippolyta's resignation, Nubia was chosen as the new queen of Themyscira and later became the queen of all Amazons.

She was created by Robert Kanigher and Don Heck, and first appeared in Wonder Woman #204 in February of 1973.

Origin[]

Earth-One[]

Princess Nubia, the dark-skinned twin daughter of Queen Hippolyta, was kidnapped by Mars and raised to be a weapon against the Amazons. Nubia was the older twin sister of Diana, and theoretically the next in line to inherit the throne. She confronted Diana (Wonder Woman) in single combat and identified herself as Nubia and claimed the title, raising questions about her true identity. Nubia eventually left the Amazons and returned to her concealed Floating Island. She later challenged Diana for the title of Wonder Woman and defeated a male warrior on Slaughter Island, emphasizing her belief in cherishing life. When Nubia fell ill from a mutated shark's poisoning, Supergirl was sent to retrieve a rare root to cure her.

New Earth[]

When Nu'Bia meets Diana, she mistakenly calls her by the name of her former queen, Antiope. She reveals herself as a Themyscirian Amazon who won the "Tournament of Grace and Wonder" and became the Amazons' first champion. Nu'Bia's mission was to guard Doom's Doorway, an entrance to the river Styx and the Tartarus Gate on Themyscira. After her time in the underworld, where she met and became the lover of the Zoroastrian god Ahura-Mazda, Nu'Bia aids Wonder Woman in her mission and then returns to the underworld to seek revenge on the demon Ahriman for murdering Ahura-Mazda. The story concludes with Nu'Bia in possession of Ahriman, riding an elevator back to Hades to revive her beloved.

Prime Earth[]

Nubia, formerly known as Zahavah, was a princess from Madagascar who became an Amazon warrior. She emerged as the last Amazon from the Well of Souls on the same day that Princess Diana of the Amazons was born. Nubia then took on the role of the guardian of Doom's Doorway and later ascended to become the queen of Themyscira and all Amazons.
