Think, think, think... Hold on a sec...
~ Nuko's words with Chito and Yuuri in Capture chapter of the English dub of the anime.

Nuko, also known by its nicknames as Cut or Ket (Yen Press' translation), is the secondary protagonist of the 2014 manga series Girls' Last Tour and its 2017 anime adaptation.

Nuko is a mysterious sentient creature found by both Chito and Yuuri at an abandoned battlefield from another layer of the megacity. Nuko is later revealed to be from a mysterious race known as the Eryngii, a group of sentient creatures designed to dismantle and consume any unstable material including nuclear ordnance and even smaller traces of electricity from any appliance, including radios. Nuko serves as a major character of the series during Episodes 10 to 12 (Chapters 27 to 32 of the manga).

Nuko is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in Japanese, who has voiced other characters including Ichika Nakano from The Quintessential Quintiplets, Kanade Tachibana from Angel Beats, Akane Tsunemori from Psycho-Pass, and Chiaki Nanami from Danganronpa. Kalin Coates voices Nuko in English, who also voices Jin Russell from Mondaiji-taichi.

Appearance[]

Nuko is an Eryngii who is a small, worm-like, and quadrupedal creature that has white body around it. Much like all Eryngii, Nuko has eyes with white irises, as well as a white-coloured mouth, but unlike the rest of its kind, it cannot transform into a giant Eryngii.

One of Nuko's distinguished features is its ability to consume bullets, when Yuuri later feeds the creature one bullet at a time, to the surprise of Chito. Its arms can also shapeshift into the shape of electrical lock keys that bypass all electronic locks, which is later shown when Nuko turned on the derelict robot's power on in the "Destruction" chapter and by opening the submarine's doors at the end of the "Connection" chapter.

Personality[]

Nuko, for the most part, mostly communicates through receivers including radios, and can be heard speaking in a rather robotic voice. It is, however, unable to talk, when no receivers are to be found within the megacity. Nuko's fondness to Chito and Yuuri causes it to behave reluctantly, when the Giant Eryngii told the creature to be with its kind.

Nuko is also remarkably intelligent, who is adept in technology, such as helping Chito and Yuuri out entering the derelict submarine in "Connection" chapter by opening the electrical lock, as well as opening all picture folders inside the submarine's computer at once in the "Companions" chapter.

Abilities[]

  • Computer Hacking - Nuko is able to bypass electrical locks, as well as activating mechanisms through its shapeshifting arm. It is also able to batch open folders, as shown in the "Companions" chapter.
  • Shapeshifting - Nuko's arms can shapeshift into electric lock keys, allowing it to bypass electrical locking mechanisms.

Trivia[]

  • In Chapter 13 of the manga Shimeji Simulation, another series made by Tsukumizu, the cat that is shown throughout the chapter by Shijima Tsukishima's neighbors, who also bear a striking resemblance to Chito and Yuuri, is also a homage to Nuko.
