Nymphadora Tonks (née Lupin) is a supporting protagonist in the Harry Potter franchise. She is a half-blood Metamorphmagus witch, an Auror, and a member of the Order of the Phoenix, a group of witches and wizards willing to fight against the evil wizard Lord Voldemort and his army of Death Eaters. Tonks is the wife of Remus Lupin and mother of Edward 'Teddy' Lupin. She and her husband gave their lives in the final battle against Voldemort, The Battle of Hogwarts.
In the films, Tonks was portrayed by Natalia Gastiain Tena, who also portrayed Osha in Game of Thrones.
Personality[]
She originally has a juvenile and rebellious attitude, which she emphasises through her transformation abilities, to undermine the authority of a commanding officer in the Order of the Phoenix. She also is able to interact easily and playfully with children/teens; depending on circumstance, it can be to try to alleviate their fears over upcoming dangers, or because her own relatively young age makes it simpler for her to interact with young people over "adults." She was a prankster, so was quite admired by Fred and George Weasley.
Although, once she pursues a romance with Remus, she matures to relate to him better, to become more appealing, and plus the basic fact that she was growing due to the crisis of the Second Wizarding War. Due to being a Metamorphmagus, she wasn't bothered by Remus' lycanthropy, even though he continued to be; although, thanks to her, he managed to find a sense of peace with his condition during their relationship. Despite Remus' initial reluctance due to the age-gap, her persistence eventually swayed him to reciprocating her affection.
Nymphadora disliked being addressed by her name, preferring Tonks and to a lesser extent Dora. She disliked it because she felt it sounded too old-fashioned, as well as sounding "silly" to British ears. Another reason is that "nymph" was a part of it, and nymphs were creatures known to be flirtatious, therefore she found the association embarrassing.
Physical Appearance[]
Upon her first appearance, Tonks was described as having dark, twinkling eyes, a pale, heart-shaped face and short spiky hair which, at the time, was purple. Due to being a Metamorphmagus, Tonks had the ability to change her appearance at will, such as her hair color or facial features. She was described by some young wizards or witches to be pretty.
Biography[]
Tonks was born to Muggle-born wizard Edward "Ted" Tonks and his pure-blood witch wife Andromeda in either late 1972 to early-mid 1973. Tonks was not included on the family tree of her maternal family due to Andromeda being disowned because of her marriage to Ted (as Andromeda's family looked down on Muggle-borns and only marry other Pure-bloods).
In September 1984, Tonks began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was sorted into Hufflepuff House. She graduated from Hogwarts in 1991, a couple of months before Harry Potter began attending.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Tonks joined The Ministry of Magic and got a job as an Auror. She also became a member of The Order of The Phoenix.
In the summer of 1995, Tonks and other members of the Order, escorted Harry from his home of 4 Privet Drive to their headquarters of 12 Grimmauld Place, which was also the family home of Andromeda's cousin Sirius Black, who was also Harry's godfather. In the summer of 1996, Tonks along with Remus, Sirius, Alastor Moody and Albus Dumbledore came to the aid of Harry and Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood, who were being pursued by Death Eaters (among them; Tonks' aunt Bellatrix Lestrange and uncle-in-law Lucius Malfoy) in the Ministry of Magic's Department of Mysteries. Tonks battled Bellatrix, but was overpowered by her. Seeing this, Sirius retaliated by battling Bellatrix, only to be killed by her after she hit him with a spell that caused him to fall through a veil that led to the afterlife. Tonks was deeply saddened by Sirius' death and developed survivors guilt, believing that had she defeated Bellatrix, Sirius would still be alive.
Tonks later began a romantic relationship with a wizard werewolf named Remus Lupin, who was at first reluctant to pursue a relationship with Tonks because their age gap, but eventually returned her affections. In 1998, Tonks and Remus had a son together named Edward "Teddy" Lupin and chose Harry to be his godfather. Tonks later chose to join Remus in the Battle of Hogwarts and left Teddy in the care of Andromeda. Sadly, both Tonks and Remus perished in the battle. Tonks had been killed by Bellatrix whilst Remus was killed by a Death Eater named Antonin Dolohov.
Following this, Teddy (who like Tonks, was a Metamorphmagus) was raised by Andromeda, but also spent time with Harry and his children James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Luna.
