Oboro (Fire Emblem)

Oboro is a supporting character in Fire Emblem Fates, serving as a playable character in the Birthright and Revelation routes. She is one of Takumi's personal retainers and a Hoshidan Naginata Fighter who bears an unquenchable thirst for vengeance against Nohr for killing her parents.

Personality[]

Oboro harbors a deep and personal hatred of Nohr, stemming from the murder of her parents at the hands of Nohrian assassins. This resulted in an involuntary tic that causes her to twist her face into a demonic visage whenever she sees or hears anything relating to Nohr. However, in spite of the hatred she holds for Nohrians, Oboro is capable of controlling herself when the circumstances call for it, as shown through her C support with Silas, where she ends up turning down his offer to train with him, explaining how she doesn't wish to kill him by accident in the process. Even when she learns parents' killer had been dead for years after having been slain by Beruka, she is still capable of reason rather than simply resorting to blind rage all the time, due to her understanding that the chain of hate will always end in tragedy. That said, Oboro is not without the sense to understand that not all Nohrians are evil, as shown by the friendship she holds with Niles and Benny. She can also clearly tell the difference enough to have civilized conversations with and establish friendships and even romance with a number of people from Nohr.

Oboro's enrolling in the Hoshidan army is her main method of coping with the death of her parents, something that has led to her sharing very strong, tenacious bonds with many fellow soldiers in the army. She is particularly attached to her liege, Takumi, even harboring romantic feelings for him, in spite of her being too shy to admit them. When dying in Conquest, she even laments that she never confessed her love for him. She also serves as a motherly figure towards the rest of the army; she can recruit Kaze's help to make sure the army's supplies are free of mice, teach Rinkah to eat less messily and use utensils instead, offer to help Kaden weave silk threads into braided cords, and check on Ryoma's health and sleeping habits among others.

Being the daughter of Hoshidan tailors, Oboro is an expert in fashion and is shown tailoring to other members of the army through her supports. She is rather obsessive over fashion to the point of being forceful, if not relentless; something demonstrated through her supports with Saizo and Mozu, where she insists on crafting newer and flashier garments for the two in spite of their numerous protests and having to chase them both down in the C and B-Support conversations of both people. However, she always has good intentions, as a handful of her Heroes quotes reveal, and her A-Support with Mozu that she firmly believes that no matter how much people put on makeup and clothes, it is what's on the inside that matters.
