Hero Overview

OH NO! I FORGET DOGS ARE COLOR BLIND!!!
~ Officer Knight after being, unfortunately, blown up.
Greg, if something happens to me, take care of my girlfriend, Alice, will ya?
~ Officer Knight to Greg the Dog before they jump off an inclined ramp in the film.
Wait, aren't dogs colorblind-
~ Officer Knight before his unfortunate accident in the film's adaptation.

Officer Knight is one of the three overarching protagonists (alongside Greg the Dog and Grace TheCat) of the Dog Man franchise.

He is a tough and loyal police officer that is considered "The World's Greatest Cop", however he is shown to be mildly mischevious. As of a terrible bomb incident, the only hope for him and his pet dog, Greg, to survive is to become one being, Dog Man.

In the musical, he was portrayed by Brian Owen and is voiced by Peter Hastings in the 2025 DreamWorks Animation film adaptation, both of which portrayed Dog Man and Greg the Dog in their respective adaptations of the book series.

Biography[]

Book[]

Past[]

Sometime in his young adult years, Knight would meet Greg the Dog, who he would later adopt. The two would then become police officers and work for Chief Clarence Bailey, Greg's former owner.

Dog Man[]

Knight first introduced in the first book in the series.

When Chief had collected a new couch, the troublesome cop and his dog decided to nap on it before anyone else, despite the fact that Chief was supposed to be the first one. Chief angrily yells at them to get up, waking them up with a start. Then, Chief tells them that they're the worst cops ever and that they should get out of his sight.

With regret, Knight and Greg walk away, unbeknownst to Petey the Cat and his butler spying on them. Then, Petey tells his concerned butler that Knight is dumb but strong and Greg is smart but weak. However, they could still work together, which concerns Petey enough to make a bomb that would blow them up.

When Knight and Greg hear about the bomb, they rush to defuse it. However, due to Knight's stupidity, he cuts the green wire instead of the red, blowing them up. Somehow, doctors heard and rushed to get them to the hospital, where the nurse Genie S. Lady creates the idea to sew the undying head of Greg onto the undying body of Knight, officially creating Dog Man.

Movie[]

It is confirmed that he will return in the movie, where, likewise in the books, he and Greg would try to defuse a bomb in an attempt to impress Chief, yet fail due to their idiocy. It would also be revealed that Officer Knight had a girlfriend named Alice, though she had broke up with him after the creation of Dog Man.

Trivia[]

  • According to later recaps of the books, it is said that Knight and Greg where the world's greatest cops.
