Fiddleford Hadron “Old Man” McGucket is a major character in Disney's Gravity Falls franchise.

Once the best friend and research assistant of Stanford Pines, McGucket quit his friend's project to create a trans-dimensional portal after seeing the horrors within, becoming so traumatised he erased his memories to the point of insanity, becoming a homeless and deranged hillbilly. While he initially plays a more neutral and even villainous role in earlier episodes, after regaining his memory and most of his sanity post Society of the Blind Eye, McGucket becomes a full-fledged hero and staunch ally of the Pines Twins.

He was voiced by series creator Alex Hirsch, who also the voice of Stanley Pines, Soos Ramirez, Bill Cipher, and other side characters, such as Dippy Fresh.

Biography[]

Old Man McGucket is an old man who formerly lived in the Gravity Falls Junkyard and now resides in the Northwest Manor. Once a brilliant inventor who worked with Stanford Pines to create the trans-universal portal underneath the Mystery Shack, during a mishap while testing it, he was nearly sucked in, and saw something on the other side. Whatever he saw scarred him forever, leading him to create a memory gun and the Blind Eye Society. Over decades of blasting himself with the memory gun, McGucket lost all of his sanity. However, after “Society of the Blind Eye”, he regained most of his sanity and by the end of “Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back the Falls”, was fully back to normal. He represents the eyeglasses on the Zodiac, due to his intelligence and scholarly nature, as well as his distinct gold spectacles with green lenses that he is commonly seen wearing after “Society of the Blind Eye”.

Appearance[]

Known as the town's "local kook" McGucket sports the typical old hillbilly look in which he is a short bald-man, he has a crooked back and sports a long white beard & a brown hat and overalls with his beard covering most of his body, he also has a cast shown on his right-arm due to an incident. He has a big, pink nose some few warts on it, blue eyes, and two bandages on his feet with all but one golden tooth in his mouth.

During his younger years, McGucket had the same features in the present day with some differences being that he has brown hair all over his head with a full set of teeth, he was also shown to have a more stable & erect body as he is able to stand perfectly tall.

Personality[]

During his younger years, McGucket used to be completely sane & brilliant man capable of inventing things with a good relationship with his old friend Stanford, but after seeing unimaginable horrors which ultimately forced him to quit the project, McGucket became traumatized by this event which resorted him to make a device to make him forget them. But after using his own device on himself one-too many times after seeing even more terrifying memories, McGucket eventually became completely crazy with no recollection of the life he used to have, with barely a few he still has inside of him.

After going insane, McGucket became acting like a hillbilly who started doing all sorts of loony things like living in the town's junkyard & marrying an actual raccoon, though while he still retained his genius his newfound insanity caused him to do all sorts of equally insane things for petty reasons. He was still able to hold some forms of memories like the ones from his own son which made him long to reconnect with him, but his deranged way of think made his son feel greatly embarrassed by him & shunned him off, which greatly saddened him.

However, after getting into a few run-ins with the twins Mabel & Dipper Pines during their stay in Gravity Falls for the summer, McGucket would sometimes help them on their adventures & even face his fears & memories back, while also coming to terms with his past mistakes by learning from them & moving on. Later during Weirdmageddon, McGucket would let any survivors he could find to the Mystery Shack for safety & once he learns of a way to stop Bill by releasing Ford, who has acquired vast knowledge on the dream demon and his weaknesses, he and the rest of the survivors band together to convert the Shack into a giant mech.

As seen in The Legend of the Gobblewonker, McGucket has trained his beard to be prehensile enough to manipulate switches and buttons, later using this skill in operating the Shacktron.
According to details from the ThisIsNotAWebsiteDotCom ARG, McGucket accidentally proved that, just like Bill says, reality is an illusion and the universe is a hologram, with Stanford standing up to him when he got teased for this revelation and even helped to check his equations, which is how the two became best friends.
- McGucket is also the first person in his family to ever go to college, with his family mostly being farmhands.
It appears that McGucket's intelligence was inherited by his son Tate as Tate apparently scored so high for his SATs the grading machine exploded, additionally being able to correctly guess the Oregon lottery every year (though he chooses not to tell anyone).
In a tweet, Alex Hirsch jokingly implied that McGucket is the current president of the United States in the Gravity Falls timeline and even stopped the Covid-19 pandemic with his inventions. Seeing as McGucket is incredibly intelligent, is of eligible age and has the wealth to undergo a campaign after becoming an inventor again, this very well could be possible especially since it’s implied that the series shares an election cycle with the real world.
