~ Oliver to Omni-Man.

Oliver Grayson, also known as Kid Omni-Man, is a major character in the Image Comics series Invincible and its 2021 animated TV series of the same name.

He is the son of the Viltrumite Nolan Grayson and Thraxan Andressa, being born after the former abandoned his mission to help his empire continue their expansion. Invincible first meets Oliver during his time on Thraxa and brings him to Earth.

He is voiced by Christian Convery (who also played Gus in Sweet Tooth and young Sanji in the One Piece live-action adaptation) as a child and Lincoln Bodin as a toddler.

Personality[]

Baby/Child[]

As a young child, Oliver Grayson is very friendly and is cooperative to the people he trusts. Oliver Grayson is a quick learner, as he spends lots of time with April Howsam in learning with her. When Oliver Grayson is stuck on his homework, April Howsam motivates him to work harder due to Oliver Grayson's quick learning capabilities and determination to finish the work. When Oliver gets his superpowers, he keeps it as a secret to Debbie as a way to surprise her. Oliver Grayson with his intelligence causes him to be curious about many subjects such as wanting to learn more about his father Nolan Grayson.

Due to Oliver Grayson's intellect, he believes that criminals should die because it is the best way to save people and to stop crime despite his brother Mark Grayson urging him to value life. With Oliver Grayson's belief of wanting criminals dead, Oliver Grayson has a nihilistic viewpoint about life because if people are ready to give up their lives on others then Oliver Grayson has no reason to care about his life. Oliver Grayson's nihilistic viewpoint of life has a flaw of making him reckless, as Oliver Grayson can charge recklessly in battle. An example of Oliver Grayson's recklessness is when he attempts to help Mark Grayson twice from Conquest, but it results in Conquest nearly killing Oliver Grayson. With Oliver Grayson's recklessness he can sometimes fail to control his anger.

Oliver Grayson's nihilism eventually leads him to have a bitter relationship with Mark Grayson, but they are fortunately able to fix their relationship later in their life. As a superhero, Oliver Grayson names himself as "Kid Omni-Man" to honor his father Nolan Grayson and restore the reputation of his father. Oliver Grayson likes to fight villains for the thrill, so he searches around the the world to find one. When fighting villains, Oliver Grayson often taunts and trash talks them to make the villains angry. In the aftermath battle of Conquest, Oliver Grayson shows his care towards Mark Grayson by comforting him.

Young Teenager/Teenager[]

As a teenager, Oliver Grayson is much more rowdy than as a child. Oliver Grayson's rowdy behavior results in him in becoming more smug and arrogant towards other people. An example of his behavior is his pride in completing tasks that have been assigned to him by April Howsam. Oliver Grayson can get impatient and he can sometimes be rude towards his allies. Despite Oliver Grayson's rude behavior, he desires to join the Viltrumite War alongside his brother Mark Grayson and father Nolan Grayson, so that Oliver Grayson can get payback to what the Viltrumites have done to Thraxa.

With Mark Grayson in a coma from his battle against Conquest, Oliver Grayson and Nolan Grayson spend some quality time with each other for eight months which has helped them understand more about each other. During the Viltrumite War, Oliver Grayson's arrogant behavior of taunting his enemies gets the better of him when Oliver Grayson attempts to fight Thragg. Thragg notes Oliver Grayson's sense of humor before breaking the jaw of Oliver Grayson while also ripping his arm. During Allen and Nolan's argument of unleashing the Scourge Virus onto Earth, Oliver Grayson sides with Allen. Oliver Grayson believes that releasing the Scourge Virus into Earth will be worth it in exterminating the Viltrumite species.

Nolan Grayson reasons with Oliver Grayson on how to humans can change the Viltrumites, but Oliver Grayson does not believe it. Due to Oliver Grayson misanthropy towards human race, Oliver Grayson believes that the humans won't be able to help the Viltrumites change and that sacrificing the humans to kill the Viltrumite species will be worth it for the greater good. When attempting to reason with Mark Grayson about the Scourge Virus, Oliver Grayson attempts to justify himself to Mark Grayson that releasing the Scourge Virus onto Earth will save the universe for the greater good. By attempting to release the Scourge Virus onto Earth, Oliver Grayson is shown to have a selfish side within him as he only cares about his own allies surviving than the lives that will be lost. Oliver Grayson is shown to be impatient and opportunistic as he attempts to release the Scourge Virus onto Earth when the superheroes attempt to arrest Mark Grayson.

Oliver Grayson recklessness eventually gets the better of him, as he accidentally shoots Mark Grayson with the Scourge Virus and nearly gets his brother killed. Once Mark Grayson is able to survive the Scourge Virus, Oliver Grayson and Mark Grayson reconcile with each other about Oliver Grayson's mistake. Oliver Grayson despite his nihilistic worldview is able to learn how to respect the lives of others and know what it means to lose someone you love. Oliver Grayson is able to subvert his misanthropy towards humans and be respectful towards the lives of others despite Oliver Grayson's nihilistic worldviews. Oliver Grayson returns to Talescria and begs for forgiveness from both Debbie and Nolan due to Oliver Grayson's remorse from his mistakes.

Young Adult/Adult[]

As an adult, Oliver Grayson no longer shows any signs of rowdiness, rudeness, and arrogance towards anyone. Oliver Grayson was able to learn his mistakes from the past to become a better person. In Talescria, Oliver Grayson is revealed to have married to Haluma and is in love with her. Oliver Grayson is able to calm down conflicts through reasoning with the example of Mark Grayson and Haluma's argument. Once Haluma and Mark Grayson's argument is over, Oliver Grayson hugs Mark Grayson to comfort him.

During Mark Grayson and Oliver Grayson's visit on Thraxa, Oliver Grayson admits to Mark Grayson that he feels weird returning back to his home planet after many years. Oliver Grayson is shown to have a humorous attitude towards Mark Grayson in the aftermath of their fight against an alien beast called a "Rynax" and jokes to him as to how they potentially killed an endangered species. Oliver Grayson eventually reveals his joke when Mark Grayson falls for it and then they both go to have a meeting with Allen. In preparation for the war against Thragg, Oliver Grayson wishes Mark Grayson to not worry about him as Oliver Grayson has reformed from his past actions. Oliver Grayson can sometimes be pessimistic with his jokes as he believes himself and Mark Grayson to be screwed with their preparations to fight Thragg.

After five years, Oliver Grayson appears to be working for Thragg by secretly communicating with Thragg on the computer. However, Oliver Grayson revealed to be acting as a secret agent for Allen and is only working for Thragg to gain Thragg's trust. Powers and Abilities:[]

Powers[]

  • Thraxan/Viltrumite Physiology: As a Thraxan-Viltrumite hybrid, Oliver's heritage has given him access to the various abilities of both races. Oliver's purple skin was the result of a lower genetic incompatibility with Viltrumites than with Humans. Because of this, Oliver's growth-rate to become stronger is lesser than Mark's as his Human half is more compatible with Viltrumites.
    • Dominant Genetics: Despite the comparatively lower genetic compatibility, Oliver's developed is predominantly influenced by his Viltrumite genes, hence why he has a more humanoid appearance than insectoid and why his purple skin turned light and creamy in color as he got older. Having inherited his father's dominating genes. were Oliver to mate with an alien being with a different physiology than his own, they would likely inherit his traits more than the mother's species.
    • Enhanced Learning: Because of his Thraxan heritage, Oliver is able to gather and assimilate any kind of knowledge and understand it fully and instantaneously. He automatically understand the mechanics behind any issue or concept they face and know what must be done to solve any problem. He has perfect recall and the ability to cross-correlate information instantly. He is capable of learning, analyzing, memorizing, understanding, and mastering limitless amounts of information, knowledge and skills and immediately utilizing them without effort. He intellect enables him to learn and master anything he comes across of. He can do this so quickly his special teacher couldn't keep up with his learning capabilities, and were more impressed by his massive intellect than his other abilities. With this ability, he can easily master languages in an hour or master a lifetimes worth of knowledge and academics within a few days. Oliver also has an enhanced memory because of this power. He has remembered everything that has happened in his life from birth until death.
    • Superhuman Strength: Due to his Viltrumite heritage, Oliver is granted strength beyond Human levels, whose upper limits are unknown as Viltrumite. He was able to easily kill the Mauler twins. He has the potential to become stronger, but not as much potential as Mark due to his mother's Thraxan heritage not being as compatible as humans
    • Superhuman Endurance: Due to his Viltrumite heritage, Oliver is granted nea-limitless endurance and stamina.
    • Superhuman Speed: Due to his Viltrumite heritage, Oliver has speed beyond Human levels. His exact speed level is unknown, but definitely faster than sound. His senses are also enhanced, which allows him to observe more and as well as perceive reality at high speeds.
    • Invulnerability: Due to his unique molecular structure he has an indestructible and impenetrable anatomy, making him virtually impervious to all forms of physical harm, injury or pain.
    • Enhanced Healing Factor: Due to genes he has inherited from both of his parents, Oliver can restore from injuries much faster than humans. He was able to regenerate from the injuries he sustained during the Viltrumite War (broken jaw, dismembered arm) within a few weeks.
    • Self-Sustenance: Oliver has the uncanny capacity to live entirely self-sufficiently, doesn't need as much sleep as a normal human would.
    • Interstellar Travel: Oliver can survive and function in outer space without aid. He is able to survive and function in any environment.
    • Enhanced Lung Capacity: Due to his Viltrumite heritage, Oliver has a lung capacity to hold his breath for weeks at a time.
    • Flight: Due a complex balancing system located in their inner ears, Viltrumites have the ability to fly.
    • Decelerated Aging: Because of the genes he inherited from both of his parents, Oliver's aging process fluctuate depending on the time passed. A Thraxan's lifespan is about 9 months while a Viltrumite can live for thousands of years. When he was about 2 months old, he had the appearance of 2-year-old human. A couple of weeks after, he had the appearance of a 5-year-old. Before he went to fight in the Viltrumite War, Oliver had already had the appearance of a teenager. 10 months away from Earth, Oliver has become an adult. After 6 months leaving Earth again, Oliver has the appearance of an adult male and bared similarity to an adult Mark.. 5 years later, Oliver would bare resemblance to an adult Viltrumite male . Within each age cycle, his aging is slowed down by his Viltrumite DNA. Nolan speculates that Oliver will likely live for centuries, if not thousands of years and still be in his prime.
  • Cybernetic Enhancement: After his left arm and jaw were destroyed by Thragg they were replaced with cybernetic components.

Weaknesses[]

  • Vulnerable Ears: In order to achieve flight, a Viltrumite's equilibrium must be balanced. This system is located in their ears and thus anything that disrupts their inner ear function can disrupt their flight. While the volume of sound has no impact on this inner ear, certain pitch pulses can affect it, and can cause Oliver's ears to bleed and possibly kill him if down for too long. This weakness has only been demonstrated on Mark, but it is implied that other Viltrumites share it.
  • Short-Tempered: Oliver has indeed lost his temper before, notably resulting in the apparent death of the Mauler Twins. Although through character development, Oliver Grayson is able to control his temper and not let it get the better of him.
