Onyx Prime is a mythical, spiritually-minded Transformer from the Transformers universe, one of the original Thirteen Primes and the ancestor of the Predacons. He was Known as the "Lord of Beasts" for his ability to take a beast form and was skilled in spiritual matters, that could use a special mask to communicate with other beings' spirits and minds.
History[]
Onyx Prime was the first Cybertronian with a beast mode, who was the biological ancestor of the entire Predacon faction. He fought alongside his brothers and sisters during the war against the Quintessons and the invasion by Unicron. His spiritual abilities and connection to the natural world made him one of the most inspirational and respected members of the Primes.
Onyx also was given a special artifact, the Triptych Mask, which allowed him to project his spirit across great distances and communicate with spirits and dreams.

Onyx Prime is a historical figure from the The Covenant of Primus book, but has no direct storyline in the Transformers: Prime cartoon series. He was the eighth member of the Primes created by Primus. After being mortally wounded during the War of the Primes, Onyx Prime entered the Well of All Sparks. Inside the Well, he used his Triptych Mask to give varied forms to the Cybertronians emerging from it. The character of Predaking from the show was one of them, thus as the other Predacons, and this act of creation established Onyx as the direct ancestor of all Predacons.
Transformers One[]
In the movie, Onyx Prime is mentioned when his transformation cog is given to D-16 (Megatron) by Alpha Trion. His corpse is found by Orion Pax, D-16, Elita-1 and Bumblebee in a hidden cave after the Quintesson invasion, along with the bodies of the other Primes.
