Ooyodo(大淀) is a major protagonist of the Kantai Collection series. Also known as the Mission Girl (任務娘, Ninmu musume), she is a Japanese Light Cruiser operations officer responsible for supporting the Admiral and her allies in combat and managing the fleet's information.
She is a personification of a real-life Imperial Japanese Navy light cruiser with the same name.
She was voiced by Ayako Kawasumi in Japanese and Madeleine Morris in English.
Biography[]
Ooyodo was a light cruiser of the Imperial Japanese Navy, completed during World War II, and was the only ship of her class completed before the end of the war. As was the practice with IJN light cruisers, she was named after a river, in this case the Ōyodo River in Kyūshū, Japan. Intended as a command vessel for submarine operations, she was used for a variety of missions, and became the flagship of the Combined Fleet before being sunk by American aircraft at Kure, Hiroshima in July 1945.
Appearance[]
In the game, she has two roles; first as the girl who appears in the quest menu, taking the role as the "Mission Girl" and as a playable ship, whose upgraded version contains a command facility that can send damaged ships back home.
Both versions of her wear a serafuku (identical to Akashi's) over a collared shirt and necktie and a blue pleated skirt with hakama-like side slits as well as thighhighs.
As an NPC, she carries notebooks and holds a quill. Her shoes are simple heels.
As playable, she holds a triple 15.5 cm naval gun with her left hand, a catapult attached to her right arm, another triple gun holstered on her thigh and a large seaplane hangar attached to her back. Several AA guns are attached to her and her hangar, and there are three masts with radar/radio antennae on top of the hanger. Her shoes are now propeller-rudder platform heels.
She has long, black hair with a hairband with bluish-green eyes framed with glasses.
Her remodeled form gives her purple lace thighhighs under her boots and a longer white ribbon in place of her hairband.
Personality[]
As an NPC, fans have made her infamous by encouraging the "Dismantle two ships" quest.
Playable, she is known as being the second light cruiser with 4 slots (the first being Yuubari), compensating for her non-existant to relatively low Torpedo and ASW stats, reflecting the real-life cruiser (uniquely for an IJN light cruiser) lacking such equipment.
Naturally, she is usually paired with fellow NPC Fleet Girl Akashi.
Trivia[]
- She's the Mission advisor and Quest giver NPC.
- Was the flagship of the Combined Fleet during 1944 as well as the flagship of Vice Admiral Ozawa (After Zuikaku sunk during the Battle of Cape Engaño).
- Has no Torpedo and ASW stats when stock and at level 1, making her initially unable to fire torpedoes or engage in ASW. This is a reference to her historical armament that consisted solely of 15.5 cm guns and AA weaponry.
