Opeli is a major supporting protagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. She is a respected member of Katolis' High Council, dedicated in protecting her kingdom. She's also one of the few people to have the bravery to fight against Viren and refuse him to continue to abuse his power as the High Mage of Katolis.

She is voiced by Paula Burrows, who also voiced Rayla and Annika in the same show.

Biography[]

Opeli's backstory before the events of the series is left a mistery, only that almost a decade before the events of the series, Opeli became a member of the High Council of Katolis. During this, she would be the one to crown Harrow king of Katolis. Five years later, King Harrow came up with the idea to remove most of the guards from the castle so the citizens who went there could feel more comfortable.

Opeli, however, thought the idea was madness, and told Harrow that this would lead to him being overthrown. However, rather than having her title as a member of the High Council demoted, Harrow instead turned her into the head of the High Council due to her bravery and willingness to point out when she thought something would go wrong.

In the present, after Harrow was killed by Moonshadow assassins, Opeli refused to burn King Harrow's body because Viren had refused to give Harrow the right treatment for a king by giving seven days for the citizens to mourn their death. Opeli was happy when she found out that Callum and Ezran was alive, and refuse to give Viren the title of king of Katolis and that no one would take the place of king until the princes were rescued.

During a meeting of the High Council of Katolis, Viren tried to convince them to call the leaders of the Human Kingdoms to discuss the possibility that the elves may attack their territory, but Opeli refused as Viren did not have the right of deciding such decision, and only the king had that power.

When Viren stole the king's seal to call the leaders of the Human Kingdoms for a meeting, Opeli would have Viren imprisoned for high treason, and freed Gren, who was imprisoned in Viren's dungeon for weeks after one of her soldiers found out about it.

Opeli then discusses with the other members of the High Council to decide Viren's fate, and Opeli suggested that Viren should be killed since no prison could hold him for long. Ezran then appears and assumes the place of king of Katolis.

Opeli would then try to help in his role as king, such as taking care of the messages sent to him about the deaths of King Florian and Queen Fareeda, as well as King Ahling getting heavily injured by what seemingly were Moonshadow assassins.

Opeli would then have Ezran decide what was going to be Claudia and Soren's fates after they were arrested for conspirating with Viren in high treason acts, but Ezran had a hard time deciding what to do about it, as well as Kasef being determined to wage war against Xadia.

Opeli would try to comfort him and tells Ezran that he can always abdicate from the throne until he's old enough and allow someone to take care of it, but Ezran decided to stay as king and make his own decisions based on what he thought was right, so he told Kasef that he didn't need to get revenge on the elves and that there was still a chance of peace, and freed Soren and Claudia because he didn't want people to pay for the crimes of their parents.

Kasef would then talk to Ezran about how he brought the armies of three of the armies of thr Human Kingdoms and threatened to destroy Katolis if he didn't wage war on Xadia. After understanding that thousands of people would die from the attack, Ezran decided to abdicate his role as king, causing Viren to take over. But before he abdicated his role as king, Ezran made a last act that every soldier who didn't want to join the war on Xadia to leave and go back to their homes.

Opeli would then help in rescue Ezran when he was imprisoned with the help of Soren, Corvus, Lujanne, and Barius. Opeli would then help in stopping Viren's army during the battle of the Storm Spire, and was happy when Zubeia awoke and saw her son Azymondias again and that there would be peace between elves, humans, and dragons.

Opeli is briefly seen in the graphic novel Through the Moon, where she is seen unhappy over the fact that she would briefly take over Ezran's role as the ruler of Katolis while Ezran went to revive Phoe-Phoe and help her in how to fly and become independent enough to not need help on how to move or use her wings.

A year later, Opeli would go to a council meeting where she would give Barius a badge that was for members of the council of Katolis, officialy turning him into a member. Ezran would then say that Zubeia was coming to Katolis, and while Opeli questioned that idea since the people of Katolis would likely be afraid of her, Ezran told her that Zubeia appearing in Katolis would be another step to peace between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms. Opeli would also help in making a birthday party for Callum and sing the Katolis' birthday song, and during the party, she notes that everyone was now making the new dance Soren talked about, which was the floss dance.

The next day, Opeli would talk to Ezran about Zubeia's appearance in Katolis could be seen as disrespectful, as the place they were having the ceremony is where many who died because of dragons are buried, but Ezran told her that even though Katolis and Xadia have history togheter, it was happening there because he wanted the history to be put aside for peace. She would later tell Ezran that the council would take care of Katolis while he was gone, since Ezran went to stop Aaravos.

Several days later, while Callum and Rayla were waiting for Ezran and the rest of the group to come back after they went to meet with Domina Profundis in hopes that she knew the location of Aaravos' prison, Opeli caught Rayla sneaking into Callum's office and had her arrested. Callum would then go meet her and told her to free Rayla, and even though Opeli showed Callum that Rayla stole the keys to his office, sneaked into Viren's dungeon, and had Runaan's weapon that the latter used to kill King Harrow, Callum still trusted Rayla and told Opeli to free her because he believed Rayla would explain why when she's ready, which Opeli did.

The next day, Opeli and Barius would say their goodbyes to Callum and Rayla, who were leaving to see the Bookery of Lux Aurea and find a way to kill Aaravos, with Opeli telling Callum that she would inform Ezran of the duo's plan. A few days later, Team Zym returned to the castle with the pearl where Aaravos was imprisoned in, and Soren brought Opeli to Callum's office, as Ezran wanted to discuss what to do with the pearl with her, his group, and Barius.

Opeli calls out the group's decision to bring the pearl to the castle, before suggesting to inform the Pentarchy about it so they could keep it safe with a multi.kingdom force of elite guards. The others give several suggestions, with Callum suggesting that they should destroy Aaravos' pearl as he could still manipulate people outside of it as he did with Viren and Callum himself. However, due to the uncertanty of whether or not destroying the pearl would kill Aaravos and not release him, Ezran decides to keep it hidden and protected in the castle, and ends the meeting.

Around two days later, Opeli would inform Ezran about Viren being at the castle's gates, with Ezran going to him and having him arrested. She is later seen with the rest of the castle when Soren returns and Ezran tells him about Viren being in the castle's dungeon. A few days later, Opeli finds Soren sleeping in one of the council room's chairs and expresses her suprise with him having attended his talk about advanced fiscal exercises the previous week, only for Soren to reveal he only went there because he mistook it for advanced physical exercises.

Right after this, they hear sounds from outside, and Soren understanding it was a dragon, pushes her aside and saves her from being burnt by Sol Regem's fire breath. They then go outside and see that Sol Regem is attacking the castle, and follows Soren to help people that were injured by the ongoing attack. They are seen horrified as Sol Regem burns the bridge to the castle and thus prevents the civilians from leaving.

Opeli then follows Soren to the walls of the castle, with Sol Regem then destroying one of the castle's building and debris knocking Soren out. After waking up, Soren sees multiple soldiers injured, with Opeli helping one of them. Soren then orders the other guards to evacuate the castle and save the civilians they found, before going to the dungeon. Opeli tells Soren that they should try to leave, but he refuses as he still needs to do something, before giving her Hat and asking her to take care of it.

It's revealed Soren was going to Viren to ask him to make a dark magic spell that would make the people of Katolis imune to fire long enough so they could escape from Sol Regem, with Viren giving his life to do so.

Personality[]

Opeli is loyal to her kingdom, following every rule made in Katolis in every way possible. She has great respect for Harrow and Ezran, as she disliked Viren ignoring the rule that a king should be mourned by their people for seven days before burying or cremating the body, with Viren not giving them a day, and comforting and helping Ezran during his time as king.

Opeli also has a no nonsense personality and dislikes when people screw up or break the rules of Katolis. Opeli is also one of the few people to show bravery by going Viren's ideals and control him when he got out of line or abused his power, and understood that Viren was too dangerous to be kept alive. Opeli also doesn't tolerate people disrespecting those she cares about, such as when Kasef told Ezran that Harrow would be disapointed at him due to just how soft he was.
