Spike finds his father, Sparky Witwicky at the bar when he was dreaming about the death of his older son, Jimmy Witwicky, and other events like the Ark falling to Earth and Optimus Prime severely injured. Spike tells him that he is going to take his brother’s telescope to go see the moon with Carly on top of a huge mountain called Hunger’s Rock. Spike says the telescope reminds him of his brother, and his father, melancholic and tired, tells him it is better to forget what happened. Spike gets upset with him for wanting to forget the sad loss of his brother until they are interrupted by one of Sparky’s friends. Before leaving, Sparky angrily tells his son that he will have to grow up, but Spike asks if he will have to be like him. Sparky does not reply and leaves with his friend. Carly comments on how harsh her dad’s comment was, and Spike agrees.
In the van, both arrive at the entrance to the mountain and climb up while talking about their dreams. Carly tells Spike that he shouldn’t be afraid to tell his father that he wants to become an astronaut, while he asks her if she has been able to find an art school. Carly replies that she and her father have done everything possible to have the money to pay it. Carly takes his hand and comforts him, but they both fall and land on top of one of the Ark’s thrusters. They both enter and get surprised to see a bunch of destroyed alien-robots inside the ship, but they hide when they see Jetfire entering to repair them. He activates the Autobot computer, Teletraan 1, with a sample of Energon, starting repairs with Starscream. As soon as he is rebuilt, he shoots Bumblebee in the face, killing him instantly.
Jetfire is shocked by the atrocity that Starscream committed and he angrily shouts at him to get out of his way, Starscream shoots him on his chest and when he is about to finish him off, Optimus Prime, now rebuilt, stops him. He confronts the Decepticon for attacking a defenseless bot and tells him how dishonorable it was. Starscream tries to flee, but Optimus hits him hard against the ground. Prime looks at Spike and Carly (the little creatures) and protects them from the shots of the Decepticon until Ratchet stops him. Optimus and Ratchet take cover while Skywarp and Starscream are shooting. the Autobot leader improvises a plan; he tells Ratchet to put the bodies of the other Autobots in his trailer while he covers him, However, Soundwave shoots a missile at Optimus while he was running to reach his gun and causes a big explosion. Ratchet screams for him while putting the bodies inside the trailer. Optimus manages to rise between the flames but encounters Bumblebee’s mutilated body. with sadness, Optimus carries his friend’s body in his arms while Spike watches. but Starscream arrogantly attacks him from behind. Soundwave sends Ravage to attack Prime but Spike and Carly push Optimus’s blaster so he can reach it; he shoots Ravage and flees from Skywarp. Optimus apologizes to Teletraan 1 and destroys the computer to prevent the repair of more Decepticons. Ratchet is surprised, while the Autobot leader saves both humans, carrying them in his arm.
Optimus and Ratchet transform and jump from the ship, landing in the forest to escape from Starscream and Skywarp. Fortunately, Jetfire stands up and sees the chase inside the Ark and transform to save the Autobots. Jetfire stops Starscream, but he counterattacks, severely injuring him. thanks to Jetfire’s intervention, Optimus and Ratchet manage to reach a safe base in the forest, guided by Spike. Shortly after arriving, Optimus finds Jetfire mortally wounded and talks with him. Jetfire apologizes to Optimus for what he did, as he had been away for many centuries and did not know that Optimus was the new Prime. However, Optimus comforts him and tries to use the Matrix of Leadership to save him, but Ratchet stops him, emphasizing that although his intention is good, not even the Matrix can prevent the inevitable forever. Jetfire apologizes to Optimus again, but Prime tells him that he shouldn't. Finally, Jetfire passes away while holding his friend’s hand.
Transformers #2[]
The next day, Optimus decides to go outside the base to see the forest landscape in more detail. Optimus observes the animals, the trees, and the mountains, and he is amazed by the beautiful place. Optimus says it is incredible but accidentally steps on a moose that was walking nearby. Optimus picks up the animal and kindly apologizes. Spike comes out and tells Prime that it was just an accident and that it’s okay. Optimus replies that he had no idea his home was so fragile and that the place he comes from is completely made of metal. Spike asks him about his name and how he got it because he thought it was cool. Optimus explains that it is a title passed down from generation to generation to each leader in the Autobot hierarchy, and Spike tells him that his mother used to call him Spikey because of the way his hair looked, Optimus asks Spike what a mother is, as he did not understand those human concepts, but he told Spike that he understood the concept of family while the boy explained to him what parents are. Spike also told him that his mother passed away and asked Prime where he came from. At that moment, Optimus shared his origin and his troubled past.
