~ Orsted revealing to Rudeus about the altered fate due to the latter's and Nanahoshi's appearance in Volume 16, Chapter 1 of the Light Novel. |
Orsted (オルステッド, Orusuteddo?) is a major supporting character in the light novel series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and will return at some point in time in the upcoming sequel of the light novel.
Formerly acting as an antagonist towards Rudeus Greyrat, he later allayed his vengeful advances towards the reincarnated warrior, after finding out his status as a member of Hitogami's apostles and later his subsequent betrayal from him.
Orsted is a member of the Dragon Tribe, who wants to get revenge on his most hated archenemy Hitogami for destroying his own world through an act of omnicide and terracide and murdering his own father, the First Dragon God, as well as for killing him.
Due to Rudeus' association with Hitogami as one of his apostles, their subsequent encounter led to a hostile and often violent conflict between them, where Orsted went so far as to attempt to assassinate him twice on different occasions. However, he subsequently abandoned his murderous desires after disclosing what Hitogami's actual aims truly are, and sided with Rudeus in a campaign to stop Hitogami and Laplace by creating the ORSTED Corporation.
Orsted is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in Japanese, who voiced other characters including Maes Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist, Dainsleif from Genshin Impact, Zaveid from Tales of Zestria, Sam Porter Bridges from Death Stranding, Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh, and Rath from Fire Emblem Heroes. He is voiced by Gabe Kunda in English, who voiced Arcadios from Fairy Tail.
Appearance[]
Like other members of the Dragon Race including Perugius Dola, Orsted has silver hair and golden sanpaku eyes. Along with being taller than someone like Rudeus by a wide margin, he is also perceived to be physically fit and average in height.
He wears a white coat with fur trimming and is unarmed.
Personality[]
Due to the curse of being hated and feared by all living things that see his face, Orsted has poor social skills and a distant demeanour. When it comes to attaining his objective, he is absolutely savage and a ruthless pragmatist, who would murder everything that stood in his way without hesitation, no matter who or what it might be.
Due to his vindictive desire to fight any Hitogami apostles, usually without even pausing to listen to them, he has twice come dangerously close to killing Rudeus, where his first encounter with him almost killed the reincarnated hero by rupturing his own organs.
He was surprised to see that he has a soft side and treats his colleagues nicely and patiently. Additionally, he has shown that he gets along well with children, notably Rudeus' children, who are not affected by his curse and do not fear or hate him.
He is exceedingly humble, preferring to refer to his followers as comrades rather than inferiors despite the vast power and standing discrepancies.
He frequently becomes angry while talking about anything involving the Dragon Race, as can be evidenced by the fact that Rudeus's mention of the Dragon Race and Perugius made him rather angry.
He doesn't get along with the other Dragon Race, and in an unexpected turn of events, he seems to hate the Dragon Kings.
Background[]
Past[]
In the city of Kayos in the Dragon World, some 10,000–20,000 years ago, the First Dragon God, Orsted's father, wed Lunaria, a human woman and the child of the Human God. The First Dragon God has not yet granted Orsted a name, despite Lunaria's desire. At this time, there were six worlds: the human world, the dragon world, the demon world, the beast world, the ocean world, and the sky world, each inhabited by a different race and ruled by a different deity.
But eventually, Orsted's mother passed away under mysterious circumstances. The Human God Hitogami said that a plot by the other gods against the Dragon God resulted in the death of the Dragon God's wife. The Dragon God would become enraged and, with the aid of his faithful generals, start a war on the other worlds.
The human world was the only one to escape the fight that the First Dragon God launched, which killed all the other gods and destroyed their planets. As a result, the survivors from the other worlds fled to the human world. Laplace, Orsted's adoptive brother and the dragon god's ward, said that he had discovered that the Demon God's wife had also been mysteriously killed after the demon world had been destroyed.
After discovering that the person he had taken to be the Human God was actually an impostor who had planned everything, the fairly enraged Dragon God decided to launch a war against the human planet. However, at this point, the war-weary Dragon Generals turned on their liege in a major struggle that also destroyed the dragon world because they could take no more of his constant hostility.
The dragons that had survived eventually fled for Earth as the First Dragon God was left with a mortal wound. Then Hitogami appeared and made an attempt to destroy the Dragon God. Despite being too weak to really kill him, the Dragon God was able to defeat the false Human God and confine him in the realm between worlds.
The Dragon God then used his last remaining power to assign his son the responsibility of slaying Hitogami in the future before succumbing to his wounds. Nevertheless, he would finally give his child the name Orsted.
Mushoku Tensei[]
He first appears in Volume 2 at the Red Dragon mountain range, where he utilises one attack to defend himself by killing two Red Dragons with one strike each. He notices the strange mana gathering there as a result of the Metastasis Event and walks curiously into the Fedoa Region.
In Volume 6, he initially came upon a group known as Dead End, which included Ruijerd Supardia, Rudeus Greyrat, and Eris Boreas, while out for a stroll with Nanahoshi at the Red Dragon Lower Jaw. After discovering that Dead End visits Rudeus in his dreams, Hitogami engages in combat with him. Despite holding back, he easily defeats Eris and Ruijerd, and after rupturing Rudeus' internal organs, he almost kills him. But Rudeus' Rock Bullet scratched him since he was caught off guard. Then he saved and healed Rudeus at Nanahoshi's request.
In Volume 15, Rudeus, working under the direction of the Human God, ambushed Orsted. With magic powerful enough to wipe up the city-sized battlefield completely, he was able to injure the Dragon God and compel him to participate in actual fight. When he encountered Eris, who had undergone arduous training, she managed to fight back after he summoned the "Godsword," defeated Rudeus by separating the Magic Armor, and chopped off his right arm. He decided to support Hitogami in his battle against the Human God after hearing of his threat from Rudeus.
In Volume 16, Rudeus finds out more about Orsted's past and curses. Before moving on to their strategy for defeating Hitogami, he also gave Rudeus an introduction to Laplace and the flow of fate. Their first objective is to install Ariel Anemoi Asura as queen of the Asura Kingdom, reversing the path of history that the Human God had altered to favour Orsted.
In Volume 17, Orsted gave Rudeus the orders to aid Princess Ariel and eliminate the Hitogami apostles who had altered the course of fate. He followed Rudeus and his group from the shadows, occasionally popping forward to provide guidance and assistance. He responds to Rudeus' cry for assistance within the arena and dispatches Water God Reida with ease. After the events in the Asura Kingdom, he revealed to Rudeus the actual truth: Rudeus is a brand-new existence that exists outside of the loops, whereas Orsted is a looped existence that has seen the world more than 100 times.
Mushoku Tensei Sequel[]
One of the key plot dangers that was unsolved by Mushoku Tensei's conclusion was Orsted's plan to assassinate Hitogami. Rudeus did, however, have a vision in which Lara Greyrat, his and Roxy's daughter, aided Orsted and another person—possibly Akito Shinohara—enter the space between worlds to eventually destroy the evil deity. Ornsted will thus probably continue to play a significant role in the anticipated sequel series.
Abilities[]
Orsted has mastered nearly every martial skill known to man, including magic and swordsmanship, and is at the God-Rank in each. He easily defeated Rudeus, Eris Boreas, and Ruijerd in their first confrontation by combining it with his ruthless fervour, demonstrating that he was far more powerful than Rudeus in both of their fights.
Trivia[]
- Orsted's superior combat skills and experience, which would enable him to execute at least five different moves in a single moment, would prevent Rudeus from defeating him even with the foresight eye.
- The curse of being hated and feared by all other living creatures does not apply to members of the ancient Dragon Race, including Nanahoshi, Rudeus, and Rudeus' progeny.
