Ayumu Kasuga, better known by her nickname, Osaka, is the deuteragonist of the manga/anime series Azumanga Daioh and a minor character in Yotsuba&!.
She is voiced by Yuki Matsuoka (who also voiced Aiko Senoo in Japanese) and Ayako Kawasumi in the original Japanese version, Jong-howa Yang in the Korean version and Kira Vincent-Davis in the English version.
Appearance[]
Osaka has long brown hair, mostly like the other girls. She usually wears her school uniform that her friends wear.
Biography[]
Osaka was born in Osaka, Japan, and transfers to her new school later. Because she is from Osaka, Tomo Takino nicknamed her Osaka. The other 4 students started calling her by that name, including the teachers and the other students, to the point that no one remembers her real name, Ayumu Kasuga. Even Yukari Tanizaki doesn't remember her real name and called her Osaka.
She is also a member of the three "Knuckleheads". (With the other two being Tomo and Kagura)
Personality[]
Osaka from Azumanga Daioh is a notoriously spacey and ditzy teenager, yet beneath her seemingly air-headed exterior, lies a heart of gold. She is laid-back and casual in her approach to life, rarely getting worked up over anything that goes wrong. Osaka’s kind nature is often expressed through her willingness to help out her friends or random strangers in need, even if that means doing something she’s uncomfortable with or completely clueless about. While air-headed, she remains committed and tenacious (if slow) in accomplishing any task she sets her mind to tackling.
Osaka’s friendliness is contagious and her good-natured nature is something those around her appreciate. Though prone to forgetfulness and mixing up her words, she is not above the occasional clever comment or witty remark. Her cheery disposition is always present even in the face of adversity, which can be both reassuring and admirable.
She disliked the nickname of "Osaka" at first, but grew to tolerate it, and then ultimately accept it, as it made her feel like she herself was accepted, since she was considered special enough to earn an affectionate nickname; while the moniker is actually based upon her peers and teacher's laziness, her positive attitude managed to turn it into something kind.
In sum, Osaka is a magnetic personality who can draw people in with her casualness, kindness and optimism. Though she may appear overwhelmed at times with the world around her, her gentle spirit and unique insight make her a beloved figure in the world of Azumanga Daioh.

- Osaka's nickname was actually first given by Tomo Takino due to the former being from Osaka.
