Oscar Madison is a sportswriter for the New York Herald. A total slob, Oscar divorced his vindictive wife Blanche over his lifestyle. Though Oscar can get annoyed with Felix, he still considers him his best friend and doesn't have the heart to kick him out.
Oscar is slovenly, lazy, and often quick tempered. He is a heavy smoker and is often smoking a cheap cigar. Despite his flaws, Oscar, is in many ways a better person than Felix. Whereas Felix was jealous of his wife, Oscar was glad to be rid of his and longed to get her completely out of his life once and for all. Oscar is more easy going than Felix and his laidback attitude makes him more likeable.
