Look, Ange, I’m just a country lad. But the old man always taught me to reduce the problem down to one easy question. In this case, are you still a copper or not? It’s simple, just tick yes or no.
~ Stone to Angie Piper about if Angie still wants to be a cop or not.

Oscar Stone is one of the four deuteragonists (alongside Ellen “Mac” MacKenzie, Danni Mayo and Luke Harris) of Stingers.

He served as a tritagonist from season one to season two, a deuteragonist from season three to season five, a posthumous protagonist in season six, and a mentioned character in season seven.

He was portrayed by Ian Stenlake.

Early History[]

Stone’s real name was Cameron Pearce, he was born and raised in the countryside.

Personality[]

Stone was known to be an easygoing, optimistic, and friendly individual full of heart. Despite his rural background, Stone was known to be quite useful and technical with electronic gadgets, often being the operative who infiltrates the locations of the unit's targets and plant listening devices in hidden places in order to obtain key evidence.

Notable storylines[]

Halfway through season two, Stone goes undercover to take down drug dealers Steve Robardi and his mother Maggie in a buy/bust operation with the help of his informant Grubby Kane. However, the deal is nearly jepordized when Maggie's eldest son, the murderous fugitive Billy Robardi, arrives at his mother's house, and nearly ruins the deal between his brother and Stone due to his distrust of the latter, only to relent at the recommendation of Maggie, allowing the sting to continue. However, Stone's cover is soon blown accidently by Angie, who is noticed by Robardi, and although Steve and Maggie are arrested, Robardi manages to escape. Stone is soon forced by Rocca to go on leave at Church's suggestion, pointing out that Robardi would likely come after Stone for taking down his brother and mother. Stone decides to stay at his family's farm for a few days to lie low, but not before convincing Angie, who is also placed on leave by Mac, to come with him and once again pretend to be his girlfriend Michelle. Stone and Angie continue to bond soon after arriving at his family's farm, as he teaches her some new skills including archery practice. They soon have a heart-to-heart with one another, as Stone finds out that Angie is thinking about leaving the unit as she's struggling to cope with the risk of innocent people getting hurt from the uncertain aspects of the job, but Stone gives Angie some encouragement, and admits to her that he only gets to act normally whenever he's with her. After spending some time working on the farm with Angie, Stone returns to find his family being held at gunpoint by Robardi, and he is also taken hostage, as Robardi tells Stone's family that his mother and brother are in jail because of him. Stone tries to reason with Robardi, but he refuses to listen, and he forces Stone and his family to go outside, where they are still held at gunpoint. After some more taunting and intimidation by Robardi, he prepares to shoot Stone, but he is stopped by Angie, who narrowly misses shooting Robardi with an arrow, allowing Stone to try and fight Robardi, but Robardi gets the upper hand and beats up Stone until Angie fires another arrow at Robardi, this time striking him in the chest and later killing him, with Stone and his family being rescued by her in the process. Stone expresses his gratitude towards Angie, telling her that neither he or his family would be alive if it wasn't for her, before leaving her and Church to talk to his mother, pointing out that he's got some explaining to do.

In the penultimate episode of season three, Stone is shot close to the heart and almost dies when he goes to save Church and Brian Gray after they’re held hostage by elderly couple Ben and Celia Jones. He eventually regains consciousness in the season finale.

Early in season four, Stone becomes scared that he won’t be allowed back on active duty when he is expected to have a psychological assessment. However, with the help of Danni, he undergoes the assessment and is eventually allowed back on operational duty. Stone returns to the Undercover unit a couple of episodes later, much to the delight of everyone in the unit, especially Angie. However, she later observes Stone’s sudden change in demeanor, and tries to reason with him to take things easy, but he rebuffs her advice. It is later revealed that Stone is using anabolic steroids without a perscription to help aid his recovery, which causes him to develop a change of attitude, as he increasingly becomes more aggressive and angry. He is later put under scrutiny when he shoots and kills bikie Robert ‘Chicken’ Lake, prompting an investigation from Internal Affairs as well as a temporary falling out between Stone and Church, they soon make amends shortly after Stone is cleared of any wrongdoing. However, Stone later earns Angie’s hatred towards him after he reports her sister Sam for drug possession after she nearly dies of a heroin overdose, but Stone defiantly tells Angie that her sister is a junkie, and he only did what she couldn’t do, causing Angie to tell him that she doesn’t know who he is anymore. The unit eventually find out about Stone’s steroid abuse, angering Angie even further, and Mac warns Stone to stop using them since he doesn’t have a prescription. He soon becomes aquatinted with Assistant Commissioner Jim Courtney while playing squash, who later tells Stone that Daniel Miller was involved in the death of Mac’s boyfriend Bill Hollister, and later asks Stone to assassinate him. However, when Stone has Miller on target, he deliberately stalls for time, prompting Courtney to try and force him at gunpoint. However, Stone fights him off until Angie and Mac arrive to arrest Courtney. Stone finally decides to give up his steroid use, and his relationship with the rest of the unit, especially Angie, as well as his attitude quickly returns back to normal.

In the penultimate episode of season five, Stone starts to emotionally fall apart due to the news that his testicular cancer has become terminal, and prepares to commit suicide while in a hotel room, but he stops himself at the last moment. He later decides to help out Church on his own accord when he is wanted by the Homicide unit for the murder of Denny Kaplan. He meets up with Church and Angie near the hospital when Angie’s ex-informant and fiancée Marty Engle is taken in for food poisoning, where they later discover his security detail abandoning him. The three then make it to Marty’s hospital room, where Stone remains outside while Angie and Church talk to Engle. Stone notices an orderly walking across the ward acting suspiciously, and helps Angie hide Marty in another room while he and Church keep guard. The orderly soon returns, and Church asks for his identification. However, while the orderly is showing Church his ID, Stone notices him pulling out his silenced pistol, and pushes Church out of the way before being shot twice by the orderly, who then tries to shoot Church once again, but Stone tries to fight him off, getting shot twice more in the process, before the orderly tries to escape but is stopped by Danni and Mac. Stone then collapses to the ground while Church tries to stop the bleeding and Angie calls for a doctor. Stone is then taken to the emergency ward to be prepped for surgery. However. Stone starts to flatline, and before efforts are made to resuscitate him, it is stopped by the doctor when it’s discovered that Stone put himself on a not-for-resuscitation order, confusing Church, Angie, and the rest of the unit. They are later shocked to discover that Stone not only lied to them about beating his cancer, but that it’s now terminal. Church is given the option to decide if he wants to override the NFR to allow Stone to be resuscitated, but Church ultimately decides against it, honouring Stone’s final wish not to be resuscitated. Church, Angie, and the rest of the unit then look on as Stone soon dies, leaving them completely devastated. They all then walk towards Stone’s dead body on the hospital bed and spend one final moment with him, with Angie kissing Stone on the forehead. They all later attend Stone’s funeral, where Church makes a eulogy speech for him saying that wherever Stone is now, it’d be a better place for it, and that he will be deeply missed. Sometime later, Church, Angie, and Danni, just before moving their unit to Police HQ, decide to have one last drink in their old unit headquarters in memory of both Stone and Mac, who had recently resigned from the unit.

Church and Angie later decide to take down Stone’s killer Kieran Frances Conrad once and for all when he escapes custody during his trial for Stone’s murder. However, Conrad is later killed by Stig Enquist in self-defence, while Church is held captive by Enquist.
