Park Gyeong-seok (박경석 Bag Gyeong-seog?), also known as Player 246, is supporting character in the second season of Squid Game. He works as a portrait artist in an amusement park, using his earnings to support his young daughter, who is battling cancer. Financially strained and unable to cover her mounting medical expenses, he chooses to join the games.

He is played by Lee Jin-wook.

Personality[]

Gyeong-seok is a caring and determined father, who by most was merely noticed as meek and pitiful artist. He is ready to do whatever it takes to support his daughter, even participating in the Squid Game in 2024 to earn money for her medical care. His resolve is evident as he successfully navigates the first three rounds and joins Seong Gi-hun's fight, taking up arms against the guards who threaten the players.

Biography[]

Gyeong-seok's daughter, Na-yeon, was diagnosed with blood cancer and often accompanied him to his job as a portrait artist at an amusement park. One day, she was given a lollipop by Kang No-eul, a coworker dressed in a bunny costume, and wandered off to follow her. Gyeong-seok found her in the mascot changing room, apologized to No-eul, and took Na-yeon back outside. The next day, while Gyeong-seok was working, Na-yeon collapsed and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Gyeong-seok managed to catch up with the ambulance just before it departed but accidentally left behind her strawberry-patterned hat. Later, at the hospital, he stepped out of her room briefly and returned to find her holding the hat, which No-eul had returned without his knowledge. Struggling to afford her medical bills, Gyeong-seok decided to participate in the Squid Games.

Gyeong-seok successfully completes the Red Light, Green Light game, unaware that No-eul is among the pink guards executing the players. He votes 'X' to end the games and progresses through the Six-Legged Pentathlon, where he votes 'X' again after finishing. In the Mingles game, Gyeong-seok doesn't realize that No-eul is watching him, though she recognizes him. When the number three is called, Gyeong-seok finds himself without a team. Near the time limit, he notices Cho Hyun-ju and Kim Young-mi searching for an extra player and pulls all three of them into a room, saving them. Hyun-ju, Young-mi, and their allies Jang Geum-ja and Park Yong-sik are grateful and affectionately call him 'Prince Charming,' though Gyeong-seok insists they saved him just as much. When the number six is called, Gyeong-seok is paired with Seong Gi-hun and 001, and they all survive. The final number, two, sees Gyeong-seok team up with Hyun-ju, who is devastated after Young-mi's death, and helps her through the round. After the game ends, Gyeong-seok formally joins Gi-hun's group and sits alongside Hyun-ju. When a rebellion vote results in a tie, he supports the idea of defiance. He hides under a bed with Hyun-ju and later helps overpower the guards during the ensuing riot. He listens as Hyun-ju instructs them on how to fire and load guns, and privately asks her how she knows. She reveals that she was in the special forces. Together, they leave the dormitory to begin their rebellion. Gyeong-seok, along with other rebels, fought against the soldiers, but they were vastly outnumbered. Over time, they ran out of ammunition, and many of the rebels were killed. With no other options left, he was forced to surrender. As he watched another surrendering player being shot, Gyeong-seok pleaded for them to spare him for the sake of his sick daughter. Without hesitation, he was apparently shot. It's not known if he was killed or not, as it was unseen.
