Prince Thor Odinson, also known as Party Prince Thor, is one of the main protagonists of the Disney+ animated series What If...?, appearing as the main protagonist of "What If... Thor Were an Only Child?" and a major protagonist of "What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?".
He is an alternate version of the Norse God of Thunder where Odin decided to return Loki to Laufey, resulting in peace between the Asgardians and Frost Giants. Growing up as an only child, Thor became a hedonistic thrill-seeker who proceeded to throw a party on Earth when his father went into Odinsleep. When Infinity Ultron arrived to his universe to conqueror the multiverse, Thor was recruited into the Guardians of the Multiverse by Uatu the Watcher to stop the artificial intelligence.
He was voiced by Chris Hemsworth, who also portrays the Earth-199999 Thor, George Kirk from 2009 Star Trek film, Eric the Huntsman from Snow White and the Huntsman and its sequel The Huntsman: Winter's War, Agent H from Men in Black: International, Kevin Beckman from Ghostbusters, and Tyler Rake from the Extraction films.
Biography[]
Background[]
The history of Thor Odinson is similar to his Earth-199999 counterpart, being the son of the Asgardian king Odin and his queen Frigga. However, this version of Odin never adopted Loki, and instead returned the infant to his father Laufey when he had a change of heart. Due to his actions, the Asgardians were able to form a peaceful alliance with the Frost Giants, ending the war. Thor would be raised by his father to become the next king of Asgard, but the demigod didn't care much for his royal duties and enjoyed partying with friends. During his adulthood, Thor assisted the Asgardians in forming peace with other races, such as the Skrulls and the citizens of Sakaar. Despite this, Thor developed a hedonistic lifestyle as a result of not being raised alongside Loki, meaning he never became humbled like his sacred timeline counterpart.
Partying on Earth[]
When Odin went into Odinsleep to recharge the Odinforce, Frigga tasked Heimdall with watching Thor as she went off with her sister to celebrate the solstice. Thor would go on escape from Heimdall's site with Sif and the Warriors Three, where they traveled to Earth to throw a planet wide party. During the party, Thor invited several aliens and beings to party with him in Las Vegas, and came across the mortal Jane Foster. While partying with Jane and Loki, it was interrupted when Captain Marvel arrived, telling the Norse god to shut down his party. Thor refused and proceeded to fight her across Earth, and managed to briefly incapacitate Danvers before she sent him to Siberia. The two were stopped by Frigga, who decided to travel to Earth after the prince stated that he was there for studies.
Panicked, Thor asked his friends to help him clean the mess he made, but his attempts were foiled when Mjølnir came to him covered in party items. Afterward, Thor traveled to New Mexico to say his farewell to Foster, for whom he wanted to start a romantic relationship with. Once he said his goodbye, a portal opened with Infinity Ultron and his sentries' arrival, with the artificial intelligence planning on conquering the multiverse with the Infinity Stones.
Saving the Multiverse[]
Annoyed at the sentries' arrival to Earth, Thor traveled to Las Vegas to battle them until he was snatched out of his universe by Uatu the Watcher. Taken to a small dimension outside of space, Thor was greeted by Strange Supreme, Captain Peggy Carter, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Prince Killmonger, and was explained the situation of Ultron trying to take over the multiverse. Forming the Guardians of the Multiverse, Strange Supreme would provide a toast, which resulted in Thor using Mjolnir and alerting Ultron to their location. Thor and Strange Supreme then battled the artificial intelligence to buy their allies time to escape, but would also escape to Ultron's universe. Meeting Black Widow, Thor and his teammates continued to battle Ultron until the Infinity Crusher was used, but it had no effect on the villain.
The group were saved by Black Widow shooting Ultron in the eye with an arrow, which allowed Arnim Zola to transfer his consciousness into the artificial intelligence's body. Before they could celebrate their victory, Killmonger betrayed the group and gained the Infinity Stones, but was put into a standstill by Zola. Strange Supreme then created a pocket dimension to imprison the two, and was tasked by Uatu to watch over the dimension. Following Ultron's defeat, Thor and the others were returned to their universes, and the Norse god reunited with Foster.
