Hey, who's the new guy?
~ Pavitr to Gwen Stacy after meeting Miles Morales.
What did you just say? CHAI TEA?! Chai means tea, bro! You're saying tea tea! Would I ask you for a coffee coffee with room for cream cream?
~ Pavitr Prabhakar to Miles Morales after the latter addresses chai as "chai tea" - his most famous quote.

Pavitr Prabhakar, also known as Spider-Man: India, is a major protagonist in Sony Pictures Animation's 24th full length feature film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and will return in its upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

He is the Spider-Man of Earth-50101B and was recruited by Miguel O'Hara to join the Spider Society. He later joins Gwen Stacy's rebellion group.

He is voiced by Karan Soni, who also played Dopinder in the Deadpool films.

Personality[]

Being Spider-Man is too easy!
~ Pavitr Prabhakar

Pavitr is described to be a happy go lucky Spider-Man who has had nothing bad happen to him during his time as Spider-Man. As such, while friendly and mostly likeable, he can come off as somewhat proud and boastful, due to not having any canon events happening to him yet as well as living a relatively relaxed and carefree life. Pavitr is also rather naïve as he foolishly assumed the Spot's disappearance meant that they had saved the day. However, he is shown to be somewhat inexperienced as a hero thanks to nearly revealing his secret identity to Gayatiri and Inspector Singh, and thus Pavitr is willing to learn and be humble.

He is genuinely friendly, taking a liking to Miles when he arrives in his world and supporting his status with Gwen. Pavitr also seems rather patriotic to his home country, being annoyed when other people call chai "chai tea" and when he believes Spot is undertaking a stereotypical "self-improvement journey to India", as well as noticeably crying out in anger when Spot calls chai "chai tea" right after Pavitr lectured Miles on the topic.

Biography[]

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse[]

For six months, Pavitr has been Earth-50101’s Spider-Man. In his world, everyone is Indian. He has a relationship with a girl named Gayatri Singh. Some time, he joined the Spider-Society, and elite group of other Spider-Men and Women, lead by Miguel O’Hara.

After reports of an anomaly, Pavitr went to stop the Spot and would meet with Gwen and Miles to try and stop him. Once they reached the Alchemax Lab in Mumbattan, they were blocked off by a force field before Hobie stepped in and broke it down however they were too late as Spot had already fused himself with the collider.

The resulting explosion causes the Alchemax Lab to collapse, forcing the Spider-People to step in and save as many civilians as possible. In the chaos, Pavitr spots Gayatiri trapped in a bus about to fall and goes to save her, but Miles notices Inspector Singh attempting to save a child from rubble and quickly steps in. With their combined efforts, Pavitr and Miles save both Gayatiri and her father, causing Pavitr to express his heartfelt gratitude to him. Suddenly, a massive hole opens up in the wreckage which begins destabilising the reality. Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman steps in with a group of other Spider-People. She claims that the resulting dimensional rift was caused by Miles disrupting a "canon event", and thus she orders Miles, Gwen and Hobie to follow her back to the Spider Society's HQ while Pavitr remains behind.

At the end of the film, it is shown that Pavitr joined Gwen’s rebellion group in an effort to save Miles, who’s stranded in Earth-42.

Powers and Abilities[]

Pavitr seems to possess the same powers that most Spider-People have, with the proportionate strength, speed and agility of a spider, as well as the ability to sense danger on a physical level via a "Spider-Sense".

Equipment[]

  • Multiversal Gizmo
  • Golden Wristbands

Quotes[]

Hello, Police Inspector Singh. This is your daughter. I do not know her.
~ Pavitr keeping his relationship with Gayatri a secret from her father.

This is where the traffic is. This is where the traffic is. This is also where the traffic is. There’s traffic here too. And this is where the British stole all our stuff.
~ Pavitr talking about Mumbattan.

This romantic tension is so palpable, how can you guys even concentrate?
~ Pavitr regarding Miles and Gwen's relationship.

Trivia[]

  • In the comics and likely in this franchise, Pavitr is Spider-Man from Earth-50101, an alternate reality taking place in an Indian setting.
  • Along with Spider-Punk, he is one of the few Spider-People who views Miles as an actual hero and not the anomaly Miguel made him out to be.
