Alright, people, let's do this one last time. My name is Peter B. Parker. I was bitten by a radioactive spider. And for the last twenty-two years, I thought I was the one and only Spider-Man. I'm pretty sure you know the rest. You see, I saved the city, fell in love, I got married, saved the city some more, maybe too much. My marriage got testy. Made some dicey money choices. Don't invest in a Spider-themed restaurant. Then like fifteen years passed, blah, blah, blah, super boring. I broke my back, a drone flew into my face. I buried Aunt May, my wife and I split up. But I handled it like a champion. 'Cause you know what? No matter how many times I get hit, I always get back up. And I got a lot of time to reflect and work on myself. Did you know that seahorses that they mate for life? Could you imagine a seahorse seeing another seahorse, and then making it work? She wanted kids and and it scared me. I'm pretty sure I broke her heart. Flash forward, I'm in my apartment doing push-ups, doing ab crunches, getting strong, when this weird thing happened. And I gotta say, weird things happen to me a lot. But this was real weird. You see, I was in New York, but the things were different. Also, I was dead, and blonde. I was kind of perfect. It was like looking in a mirror. I have a feeling that the thing that brought me here was the thing that got him killed. You wanna know what happened next? Me too.
~ Peter B. Parker narrates his story
Look, bad things are gonna happen. It makes us who we are. But good things happen too, y'know? Like you happened... and she happened.
~ Peter B. Parker

Peter Benjamin Parker, also referred to as Peter B. Parker, and better known as Spider-Man, is the titular tritagonist of Sony Pictures Animation‘s Spider-Verse film trilogy.

He was once an ordinary teenager who was bitten by a radioactive spider and gained spider-like powers and abilities. Following the death of his Uncle, Ben Parker, to a crime he didn't stop. Peter swore to used his powers to protect the inhabitants of New York City against any crime, and other threats, having learned the most valuable lesson "with great power, there must also come great responsibility". Sometime later he was displaced from his universe to another thanks to that world's Kingpin Super Collider where he will meet Miles Morales, finally managing to get back the happiness he had loosed years ago following his divorced with Mary Jane managing to fixed his relationship with his wife and father a daughter named Mayday in honor of the late May Parker.

He is voiced by Jake Johnson, who also portrays Lowery Cruthers in Jurassic World and Chris Vail in The Mummy and voices Grouchy Smurf in Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Appearance[]

Peter has been Spider-Man over 22 years and appears to be roughly into his late 30s and has gained a gut after his divorce with Mary Jane, but is still slightly muscular. His brown hair has started greying. However, by the end of the film he is noticeably back in shape both physically and mentally.

Personality[]

Having been Spider-Man for over 22 years, with various responsibilities and serious setbacks in his life, such as Aunt May's death and his divorce with Mary Jane, Peter is left emotionally crippled, jaded and cynical as a result. He apparently copes with his problems with excessive eating as he put on some noticeable weight. Peter also dislikes the phrase "With great power, comes great responsibility", as seen when he stopped Miles from completing it.

Still, while initially reluctant, Peter still decides to take the young Miles Morales under his wing to teach him how to be a good Spider-Man. As Peter told Miles, being Spider-Man is not something that comes easy, but is rather something that comes from abandoning doubt and taking a leap of faith. This shows that despite all his setbacks, he is still as selfless in his "superhero work", willing to accept the responsibilities to the point of sacrifice himself to the sake for others.

By the time he reunites with Miles as a member of the Spider-Society, Peter is shown to be a lot more happy, eccentric and goofy than he was in the past due to him rekindling his marriage with Mary Jane and having their daughter, Mayday Parker. Part of the reason why he's so excited to be a parent is because he hopes Mayday will one day grow up to be like Miles, saying that he finds the latter "very fun to be around".

He also demonstrates his sense of justice better than he did before as well, initially believing that preserving the canon events is for the greater good and even states that Uncle Ben's demise was probably for the best, as many Spider-Men wouldn't be who they are without the deaths of their paternal mentors. Despite this, he and his daughter ultimately defect from the Spider-Society and join Gwen's team to rescue Miles, showing that Peter places those he cares about over the sake of maintaining the status quo for all universes.

Biography[]

Background[]

Peter Benjamin Parker was an orphaned teenage boy who lived in Queens, New York with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. After being bitten by a radioactive spider at 15 after those events Peter spider-like powers with super strength and reflexes. He also had a “spider-sense” alerting him to danger. Initially seeking to capitalize on his new abilities, his life would changed forever once he blithely ignores the chance to stop a fleeing thief, thing which end up the murder of his uncle Ben, after noticing that the killer was the same person he refused to stop, Peter became the superhero known as Spider-Man as a way to make up his mistake as a hero.

The life of Peter as a superhero was rough even though he began to save the city and sometimes he even get praised by the citizens Peter life turned out to worse, Peter began to lose many people in his life. As Spider-Man fight against villains such as Doctor Octopus, Scorpion, Green Goblin, Tombstone and others Peter loose so many people closed to him such as the Police Captain George Stacy he would eventually get married with Mary Jane Watson however since Peter had no idea how to perfectly balance his life. He began to save the city too much as he tried to jump-start a food franchise called T"GI Spidey's " in order to keep himself afloat, but this backfired when the restaurant was shut down. Aunt May eventually died which led of he being scared of committing to the idea of starting a family with Mary Jane which would ultimately make their marriage fell apart with them finally divorcing since Peter couldn't stand loosing another people. Peter began to enter into depression and began to get a gut not even his web slinging could get rid of but still Peter continued to save the city as Spider-Man even tough he became tried and annoy of cared for everyone else.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse[]

One day after work, in his apartment, the Kingpin of a different dimension activated the Super Collider, a machine that could open portals to other dimensions. During a battle with the Green Goblin of that dimension, the alternate Spider-Man was thrust into the energies of the Collider, and his molecules ended up causing the Collider to hone in on the older Peter's universe, opening a portal in his bedroom. Pulled into the portal, Peter was transported into an alternate Earth, smacking face first into a screen. He discovered his counterpart from this dimension was younger, blonde-haired, and had recently been murdered by the Kingpin. Overwhelmed by the strange events, Peter secretly watched his counterpart's funeral and resolved to return to his own dimension.

He eventually came across a graveyard, finding a young boy named Miles Morales, who had recently been bitten by another spider and had received similar powers. As Miles was voicing his troubles to the deceased Peter's grave, the older Peter approached him, but spooked Miles, causing him to accidentally electrocute Peter with his newfound Venom blast, knocking him out. Miles was surprised that the man resembled the deceased hero he'd watched die, but was interrupted by two police officers who spotted him trespassing. Miles attempted to flee, but due to having accidentally been webbed by Peter, ended up dragging the unconscious man with him. Getting webbed to a monorail, Miles and Peter were hurled throughout Manhattan, before finally coming to a stop. Upon finally regaining consciousness, the older Peter found himself tied to a punching bag, realizing Miles was like him. Miles questioned Peter, asking why he wasn't dead, blonde, and was slightly fat, which annoyed Peter. However, after guessing he was from another dimension, Peter explained the quantum theory, and Miles told him that he'd promised the deceased Peter that he'd destroy the Collider before it caused further damage to the multiverse.

Peter at first refused but gave Miles his first lesson "Don't watch the mouth, watch the hands". After escaping, Peter claims he only wanted to return to his own dimension. However, as he is in a foreign universe, his atoms are very slowly, but painfully deteriorating, causing him to "glitch" painfully. Miles is frustrated at Peter's uncaring attitude towards the crisis, but eventually Peter relents to his urging and agrees to help Miles.

Peter takes Miles to the advanced technology and research company Alchemax in order to download information about the particle collider. Peter has Miles stay back, though the latter sees Kingpin arrive. Refusing to let him kill another Spider-Man, Miles infiltrates the area and tells Peter that he won't stay idle and let another version of him die. This leaves Peter touched and they are soon found by Dr. Olivia Octavius. The doctor turns out to be the super villain known as Doctor Octopus. As they attempted to escape, they were assisted and rescued by Gwen Stacy another universe displaced spider hero with the name Spider-Woman.

Making their way to the May Parker of Miles’ world she introduced them to Spider-Noir, a version of Peter Parker from the 1930s, Peni Parker and her robot armor SP//DR are from an alternate future, and Spider-Ham, a version of Peter Parker as a pig. The group then discusses how they are going to shut down the Collider and get back to their own universes as they will eventually “glitch out” and die if they stay in Miles world for to long. Miles opts to be the one who will stay behind and shut the Collider off. While Peter and Gwen show faith in Miles abilities the others are not sure Miles is ready and when they try to test him the pressure overwhelms Miles and he leaves.

Later at May's house, Peter defends Miles to the others before the latter frantically run in and tells them that his uncle Aaron is revealed the Prowler and tried to kill him. Peter comforts him while Gwen asks if he was followed but Miles doesn't know. However, Peter and the others are attacked by Kingpin, Prowler, Doctor Octopus, Tombstone, and Scorpion when they followed Miles to their location. A fight ensues, with Peter holding off Prowler and tells Miles to run with the drive. The brawl ends when Miles' uncle is shot and fatally wounded by Kingpin when he refuses to kill Miles. Peter, who witnessed the act, knocks away Kingpin and encourages Miles to escape, which he does.

At Miles' school in his room, Peter and the others try to comfort and console Miles by bringing up their loss. Peter reveals that he loss his uncle Ben and tells Miles that he has decided to be the one who will deactivate the Collider and stay behind even though it will result in his death. Overpowering Miles, Peter tells he's not ready and that to be a hero he has to take "a leap of fate". Taking the USB drive that will shut down the Collider from Miles, Peter then webs him to a seat to keep him safe and out of the way while the others go to the Collider.

Infiltrating the base they are confronted by the Kingpin and his henchmen again. Peter is overpowered by Doc Ock but Miles arrives having escaped and manages to help Peter with his mastered powers. Peter, Miles, and Gwen work together to defeat Olivia Octavius before she is hit by a truck from the colliding universes.

Miles then shows Peter he also mastered his lesson watching the hands after stealing the drive from him. Once Miles gains control of the Collider, he uses it to send the others home with Peter being the last. Just as Miles and Peter are about to part ways, Kingpin arrives and is enraged at his ruined plans. Peter tries to hold off Fisk and tells Miles to shut off the machine. However, Miles refuses and overpowers by using the same move Peter used on him and assures Peter that he will be fine and encourages him to fix things with Mary Jane. Peter agrees, as he is dropped in the beam Peter notes on how he proud and impressed he is by Miles' growth as Spider-Man.

Returning to his own universe, a now confident Peter knocks on Mary Jane's door, with flowers determined to try and fix their relationship.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse[]

Peter only has a small role unlike the first film but he reveals he remarried Mary Jane and now has a daughter name Mayday. Sometimes between the sixteen months, Peter was recruited by Miguel O'Hara while being disappointed that he is the only Spider-Man who doesn't have a sense of humor like most of his variants. Peter was reunited with Miles when the latter has arrived at the Spider Society. Miguel explained canon events to him while asking him to join Spider-Society to protect the multiverse which Peter agreed to.

Later during the chase Peter tries to convince Miles about facing a sacrifice for his father who's about to become a police captain that would soon lead him to his death (like George Stacy). Later at the end he was recruited by Gwen to help her find Miles who now trapped in another reality.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Spider Physiology: Due to being bitten by a spider that was exposed to great amounts of radiation, Spider-Man possesses the proportionate powers of a spider; such as superhuman strength, durability, endurance, speed, agility, reflexes, equilibrium, stamina, senses, etc. He can also cling to solid surfaces, produce organic webbing and has a "spider-sense", which alerts him to danger.
    • Superhuman Strength: Possessing the proportionate strength of a spider, Spider-Man can overpower any non-superhumans relatively easily, his kicks and punches can send humans flying. This was seen when he sent Kingpin, a large man flying.
    • Superhuman Durability: Spider-Man is able to survive being thrown around violently at high speeds and having his face grazed against the pavement.
    • Superhuman Speed: Possessing the proportionate speed of a spider, Spider-Man is much faster than normal humans.
    • Superhuman Agility: Spider-Man is able to perform acrobatic and gymnastic moves, such as high jumps, somersaults, flips, etc.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Spider-Man is able to dodge any attack. His spider-sense also further greatly amplifies his superhuman reflexes.
    • Superhuman Equilibrium: Spider-Man is able to balance himself perfectly on any object, no matter how small or narrow it is.
    • Superhuman Jumping: Due to his strengthen leg muscles, Spider-Man can jump much higher and leap much further than normal humans.
    • Superhuman Endurance: Spider-Man is more enduring than normal beings and pushed beyond the natural limits; making him, able to work longer/survive without supplies, resources, energy, or other items for an immensely extended amounts of time, far longer than regular beings. An example is he was able to cling onto a apartment latter while he was glitching.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Spider-Man can remain physically active for long periods of time without fatigue.
    • Superhuman Senses: Spider-Man no longer needs his glasses and has absolutely perfect vision due to the spider's bite.
    • Spider-Sense: Spider-Man possesses precognitive danger senses, as he is able to quickly dodge any form of attacks just after sensing them. It also helps him to identify if he is close to someone with similar spider powers.
    • Wall-Crawling: Spider-Man is able to stick or grip onto any surface, much like any spider would; by using his fingertips and feet.

Abilities[]

  • Enhanced mental capacity: Combined with his superhuman senses, Peter has the unusual ability to see and remember passwords being typed from long distances.
  • Expert Hand-To-Hand Combatant: Due to Spider-Man being a crime-fighter for 22 years, he is an extremely skilled hand-to-hand combatant.

Weaknesses[]

  • Limited Durability: Although Spider-Man is incredibly durable, he does have his limits; for example, objects or weapons with enough force can injure him.

Quotes[]

I thought, that if I did a decent job raising her that there was a chance she was gonna turn out like you. And that got me excited, because you're a wonderful person! And I like being around you!
~ Peter explaining why he's excited to be a parent while trying to convince Miles to stay in the Spider-Society.

Trivia[]

  • After arriving to Earth-1610B Peter was apparently forced wore sweatpants, though after finding his counterpart's base, he appears to have take a the leg of his costume with him.
  • It's implied that either Peter or Mary Jane (or even both) might be Jewish, as the former is seen stepping on a whine glass at their wedding during his montage.
    • However, he eats a cheeseburger in first movie when talking to Miles about how to be Spider-Man, which implies that this isn't the case or that he simply doesn't practice kosher anymore.
    • Ironically his voice actor, Jake Johnson, is Jewish.
  • In the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Peter reveals he has plush toy versions of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus for his daughter Mayday to play/fight with.
  • This Peter is most likely based on the original Spider-Man from the original Marvel comic series, due to the fact that when the Collider is mapping the worlds, we see that Peter's current world is designated Earth 616, which is the Prime Marvel Universe. As such this Peter seems to live most of event of his counterpart from the comics whoever it appears to also have some difference such as One More Day never happened, Peter divorcing Mary Jane instead of the deal with Mephisto, Aunt May is dead and Peter gained a daughter.
    • While it is stated that he is the Earth-616 Spider-Man, in order for this to actually be valid is if the original went through a massive retroactive overhaul that happened in between his current modern age to who he became in Spider-Verse, of Aunt May soon dying and him getting back together with Mary Jane while having their child. Another issue that would have to be addressed is the animation style of this Peter's universe in comparison to the main Spider-Man's comic style format, with the multiverse clearly showing that each universe has their own style, unless if the main marvel universe was drastically altered to be that way. This isn't the only time Earth-Numbers had the same count, with the same said for Miles having the same Earth number as from the original counter but couldn't possibly be the same due to a complete alternative direction to their stories. Then again, retcons like this is far from uncommon from the original Spider-Man and Marvel to do these tropes, especially when intereptations were drastically changed numerous times such as what happened in the Clone Saga, undergoing the case on who is who, back and forth.
