~ Peter defeating Ego. |
Peter Jason Quill is a titular major character in the What If...? episode "What If... Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes." He is a version of Star-Lord from a universe where Yondu delivered him to Ego, instead of keeping the child for himself.
He was voiced by Mace Montgomery Miskel.
History[]
Peter was the son of the human Meredeth Quill and the celestial being Ego. In 1988, after Meredeth died of a brain tumor caused by Ego, Yondu Udonta travelled to Earth to bring Peter to his father. Unlike in the main universe, Yondu didn't have a redemption arc, and simply gave Peter to Ego. Ego told Peter about the Expansion, a plan to destroy all life in the universe so that Ego would encompass everything.
Peter did not want to kill innocent people, so Ego took control of his son's mind. Using Ego's ship, the now brainwashed Peter travelled to various planets and ignited the seeds placed on them by Ego, destroying the planets. At some point, Peter destroyed Thor's homeworld of Asgard, causing the Asgardian to seek revenge. Peter later took the ship to Earth, hoping that reconnecting with his home would free him of Ego's control. Unfortunately, after Peter landed on the planet, Ego's influence resurfaced and forced Peter to attack New York city.
Not realizing that Peter was under Ego's control, S.H.I.E.L.D. sent the Avengers to find and imprison him. The Avengers found Peter at an amusement park, where, after a chase, he was captured and placed on a cell in the Hellicarrier. Hope Van Dyne went to visit Peter, where he explained that he was not an alien destroyer, but a human trying to get home. Using Pym Particles, Hope shrunk the cell and hid Peter from S.H.E.I.L.D. After Hope gave him her music player, Peter took a bus to his home of Missouri.
After arriving, Peter visited Meredeth's grave. He was approached by Hank Pym, and the two had a heart-to-heart about their shared losses, as Hank's wife had disappeared the year before. Unbeknownst to both of them. the Winter Soldier was about to shoot Peter, but he was talked out of it by Peggy Carter.
Hank Pym then took Peter to Ego, who was attacking the Avengers at the time. Peter confronted Ego, and Ego revealed that he has killed Peter's mother. Peter absorbed Ego's seed and used the energy from it to shoot Ego, removing his consciousness from the planet. At the end of the episode, Peter was seen as a member of the Avengers, and the team plotted to kill Ego.
Peter was later kidnapped by Strange Supreme, who tried to feed him and several others to the Forge, though he was saved and returned to his universe by Captain Carter and Kahhori.
Personality[]
While Peter initially came off as a destructive, enigmatic, sinister force, it was only due to Ego's brainwashing. In actuality, Peter was simply a normal child. Peter is often charismatic and friendly, thought he is sometimes cold and shy due to his grief over his mother. Peter also has a sense of justice, as he fought Ego when he travelled to Earth. Due to growing up in the 1980s, Peter has 80s inspired mannerisms and often references 80s culture.
