Phoenix Ikki is the bronze saint of Phoenix. Although he was introduced later than the other four main Bronze Saints, Ikki's role in the story is quite significant. He serves as the first antagonist in the series that the other Saints must defeat, as well as a powerful ally later in the series.
Storyline[]
A lone wolf to the core, Ikki is an orphan and the older brother of Andromeda Shun. Having gone through a tremendous toll to keep his brother alive and healthy throughout their childhood, Ikki was brought under the tutelage of Mitsumasa Kido, where he has to intercede for the sake of his brother in order to save him from being sent to the Death Queen Island to obtain the Phoenix Cloth.
At the hellish island, he befriended Esmeralda, a slave girl who reminded him of Shun. Ikki's master Guilty, a cruel and merciless individual, slays Esmeralda to force Ikki to gain the power to obtain the Phoenix Cloth. Having gone through so much trauma leads Ikki into a mysanthropic bout where he chooses to antagonize Saori Kido and the Bronze Saints by stealing the Sagittarius Gold Cloth. Ikki is thus the first antagonist in the series.
Though Ikki eventually turns his life around, he chooses to remain alone and actively avoids the other Bronze Saints, only intervening whenever it's absolutely necessary, often coming to aid Shun in combat.
Personality[]
Ikki's personality is drastically different from his fellow Saints. He is almost the opposite of his younger brother—Shun is calm, soft, caring and very emotional, whereas Ikki is harsh, cold, aggressive, and very much of a loner. Fellow Saint Wolf Nachi once pointed out that it was very hard to believe Ikki and Shun were related due to the extreme difference in their personalities.
Even after his redemption, Ikki dislikes teamwork, he comes to battle whenever Athena's Saints need his help, and is often seen coming in the nick of time to save his younger brother and friends from certain death. This tactic has always been exploited to their advantage, since the enemies are caught by surprise upon meeting/fighting him.
Techniques and abilities[]
Ikki is a powerful Bronze Saint as he is often pitted against the strongest enemies. His power level also puts him well above all Silver saints. Like the myth of the Phoenix, Ikki's power increases every time he is killed and resurrected. In his battle with Virgo Shaka, Ikki was able to awaken his 7th sense, which placed him in the ranks of Gold Saints and Judges of Hades in terms of power and skill. This is demonstrated when he easily defeated Garuda Aiacos during his nick of time saving Kanon. In "Saint Seiya Omega" chapter, he has the same level with the weakest of Pallasites first class. Which also makes him the strongest among the bronze saints in Omega era. Ikki also awakened the 8th sense. As a Saint, Ikki uses two techniques to dispose of his enemies; one deals physical damage, and the other destroys the mind of his foe.
